Yay! Looks like you're right about persistence.

So bright out I had to wear my cool Dollar Tree sunglasses. 6 miles out on the hilly road, 10:08 average, 8:27 max down a pretty steep hill. My foot's not particularly happy but I get tired of always doing flat runs.

I got to use my new iPod Shuffle, which is a "birthday" present from DW, although that was 7/24. It's totally sick (I like to try to stay up with the latest lingo so hopefully that's right).

Hi TW!

Glad to hear the Ferbers are helping you too!

10°C and a light rain this morning. 3.6 miles thru the mountainbike trails in the woods, with wee bit of tightness still in the glute and hamstring, but also with a bit of sproink in the stride. Felt wonderful. Finished off with a nice long stretch against the bridge railing, listening to the stream babble along below, then back home to a rum-spiked cup of coffee while I did 3 sets of Ferbers.

Have a terrific day everyone!!!

11.32 miles in 1:42:32 (9:04 pace). It was such a great, steady-paced run in the crisp fall air, out on the Minuteman bike path. I'm not looking forward to giving that route up when it becomes snow covered...

No worries, Heme. I think I figured something out. Same foot, different problem. The spot that hurts is on the side, near the little toe. Paul, remember that wear pattern on my shoe I showed you yesterday? That spot on the old Glycerins is completely worn out, and that's the spot where my sural nerve has been damaged. The shoes only have about 200 miles on them but I'm retiring them and will just run in my new Glycerins that I wear-tested. They're lime green, too, so they basically match my fancy-pants new socks.

Good outing TW!

Rum in coffee? That would be nice right about now after my sproinkless run. Since I was sproink challenged, I figured I'd throw in some hills - running slow hills must be better than no hills I hope. 9.3m in beautiful un-November like weather! It's nice when you an still be wearing shorts in November!

Opie, how are the new Glycerins? I have 3 pairs of the 8's, absolutely love them. I haven't felt this enamored about a pair of running shoes in, well, forever. MrOM is even getting jealous...

No run today, due to being at a funeral for a friend's 91 year old father. He lived a full and empowered life, from what I heard, so it's a good thing. Still, it's not to great for my friend, whose mother also passed 18 months ago.....And what really sucks is that I have two more of the same to attend tomorrow and the next day.... Not to bring everyone down, but I'm happy that I'm able to be there for my friends. It's all about the people you interact with and are there for, after all. And so with that, I couldn't have ask to spend my rest day any better, being at my friend's house all afternoon. :)

Glad to hear of everyone's runs today, tomwhite in particular. Keep at it, my friend!

Dove, I wear my recovery socks after my runs, sitting at my desk and sometimes at night.

OM, I really like the new Glycerins if they're sold exactly as I tested. The only changes I noticed were the lacing and the sole, which has a different surface and really good traction. I raced in them last weekend.

TW......that is great news from TN......your running, not the cold drizzle

opie....since you are up on the Brooks products, I have a question......I ordered a pair of spartan II running pants last week.........they are nice and I like them.....however, the material thicker than I expected and it'll have to be a pretty cold day before I run in them on anything other than a short outing........do you know if they have a similar product in a thinner material that are good for longer runs?

on a related note.....I just pictured Opie sitting at his work desk in his glow in the dark green socks........and the entire office staff whispering about having him drug tested

has anyone worked out on an anti-gravity treadmill? a local health shop that is runner friendly has one and I've been very curious the experience.

plodded along in a local 5k today just because it was a charity event for a good cause.....ran the entire race beside some unknown female with really nice running form (nice non running form too, but that's another issue altogether) who looked like she was out for a very light jog and could sprint off at any moment but never did.....................the cool drizzle was perfect for running....and a couple of friends ran PR's at the event, even with a number of decent hills on the course..................the post race bbq made it worth the effort

Pie, I get all kinds of sh## at work about those socks if I wear dress loafers, but if I wear cowbow boots nobody knows. As far as the pants, I have the same problem with the Wanganui pants, which they either don't sell any more or have renamed. I would guess the Essential Run Wind Pants would work better for less harsh conditions.

Nice trail running Heme and great post-running drink too. I am hoping to run more trails for the rest of November and until the snow gets to to be too much.

Good hip lingo Opie---it's got to be at least within the year on the hip scale. I depend on my younger Bed-Stuy cousins to catch me up, but they usually just laugh (maybe because I just say groovy to everything!)

17.6 miles for me today---13.1 of them with some sproink---hilly a$$ spanker of a half-marathon. here's the tale: http://www.masslive.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/kenyan_mathew_kiplagat_sets_co.html

If only the Albany area running club had stayed home today (sorry BTY...! Just kidding---here I am a CNY native runner living in Western, MA). It was a fun day. no post-race bbq, but good homemade chili and lots of apples and cider. Hi Pie!

Awesome running as usual, CNYrunner. Wow...

Hey Pie, I might like to know more about those pants you had. I have these ancient Brooks winter weight tights, but they're getting a little threadbare... I have a pair of Hind running pants that aren't as warm on their own, but are a good second layer. Problem is, wearing two layers makes my legs feel like lead. If I could get some heavier pants I could wear without the tights, or heavier tights, I'd be happy! What's the style name?

I'm with you on the mind numbing treadmill runs, mc. And I only went 8 on mine. Listening to podcasts of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me..." and found out it's hard to keep pace on a treadmill when you're laughing! OMG some of their lines are hilarious. I'd love to be that quick and witty. Anyhow, I was hungry on my run, too, so it was an overall very trying run. Got it done though.

And a batch of blueberry-rhubarb jam, a pumpkin pie cooling on the counter and lasagna in the oven for dinner. Didn't get to the vacuuming. Oh well. Guys should be home soon. I've had a great weekend, and sekritly wish I could have a couple more days. Back to reality though...

Ain't CNY something, Opie? Oh yeah, groovy, baby!

Go Dove dawgs!

You're a good friend, OM.

I could use my compression socks, but WHERE could they be? Expensive things too, and I've only worn them once or twice!

Delighted to hear Ferbers may be working for tw and Heme. Heme, I would love to run with you and I'd also enjoy the post-run bevvies too!

Pink, I had a pretty lacklustre (sproinkless) weekend of running. Lots of mileage, just no oomph. But no hill avoidance. And too much dang pavement!

Nice running and racing by many of you!

I'm glad you enjoyed your wknd Erika, but I know what you mean about wishing it lasted a bit longer.

I didn't get out for a run today - just had too much I wanted to get done around here. Finished up the curtains in my son's room - so now his curtains match the rest of the Oregon State theme he has going on. Had some dead banana's, so made some muffins. Made a big batch of chicken tortilla soup that is so good, but I'm the only one that'll eat it, so I guess I have my lunches set for the week.

TripJ is up for the weekly this week and I don't think he's been around all weekend. If a weekly thread isn't started by the a.m., if anyone is willing to take that on this week, I'd be very appreciative. I normally do it if someone can't last minute, but since I'm on jury duty this week, I might not be around much.

Whoops. Meant to respond, evanf.

I've been at the yoga thing for over two years now. It's like anything, really, it takes time to get to the places you wish to be. I have short, tight hamstrings; yoga has helped immensely in increasing their flexibility. The proprio/balance moves have been beneficial to running and strengthen the feet; lots of hip "openers" also good for running; lots of core; and arm and head stands are just plain fun.

Check out different studios or rec centres or the Y and talk to instructors and students. It took a little time for me to find the type of class I enjoy and the "right" teachers. Even then, I'm not sure "enjoy" is the right word as they were really tough and it was easy to get discouraged, so perhaps I didn't begin at the level I should have. Anyway, don't get discouraged if the first one you try doesn't quite do it for you. My sister enjoys doing the DVDs at home, esp the one that my instructor put together.

Oh, yeah. And ask OM!
