Morning Kicksters

Jill/4BM- I was planning on running a new route yesterday, and was planning on 18, it would have been a lot of guess work without a watch.

Jebba- nice job on the half yesterday

My long run basically blew up on me yesterday. I came home, got my watch and went out the door. Decided on a route that I've been wanting to check out- an out and back down a Hwy. Has nice shoulders on each side, 4 lane with a grassy divided median... anyways, felt great, 51* at start, bout 8 miles in I noticed my right groin and me feet kinda hurting.. I think it may have been due to the slight 'crown' the shoulder had in it. Made the turn around and started heading back. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to stop at mi 14 and stretch a bit, which I did... but when I started back I felt like crap.. couldn't hold onto a decent pace (kept wanting to go too fast). I had to stop a mile later. I walked some then tried it back.... still too fast, only got .5 before I was wasted... walked some more, then In one last attempt started running again, made it 1.5 miles this time but I was wasted. Totaled 17, which is a distance PR for me. Looked at the weather when I got back to my truck- 71*. I came home and started feeling really bad.... ended up barfing 3 times... If I have another run like that, I don't think I'll continue w/ this marathon training.

Rest day for me... kinda feeling like I got hit by a truck today.

Well,my plans for a long run went out the window when DW made last minute plans to help out a friend who's sleep deprived with two kids (Dad's at the Bears game...). So it'll be however long DD wants to stay in the BOB.

BBS - sorry about how the long run went but at least you got a distance PR! Think about your nutrition and hydration before and during the run to see where things may have gone wrong.

Jebba - awesome job on the HM yesterday! Crappy season or not ( I know all about that this year) you got it done and may even have had fun.

Distance PRs do strange things to people BBS. I wouldn't worry about it, next time will be better. The first 20 miler I ever did, I came home woozy a stumbling around, but now, they don't phase me much.

Hope you're able to get a decent run in today Asics.

I went for a very super slow 8 miles today. Felt nice and healthy for the second straight day, so I might allow myself to get up to slightly higher heart rates a few times in the coming week.

BBS - I had a couple of days like that (sans barfing) while training for a marathon then never again. Hang in there.

RA - BOB? Whatever you get to do I hope it goes well.

MBH - You just coming back from something?

Sickly still. Last two days long with work. Will rest all day today and hope for the best.

BBS - congrats on your new distance PR. Like MBH said, weird things can happen in those instances, heck, they can happen at any time. I've had runs like that. I cut a 20 miler short by 10 miles a few weeks ago because of the heat and humidity which completely beat me up. I even ended up falling that day for no reason which is when I told myself to turn back. Sounds like it got warm very quickly which can really suck it out of you without you even realizing it right away. Don't dwell on it. Your next one is bound to be better.

Enjoy your run RA.

Nice job on the miles MBH.

I hope that you are feeling better soon vash. Rest well today.

Back from 22.5 miles (I beat Hawk) which were on the running path, roads, single track trails and included about a million hills. (The trails were up on the mountain.) Of course, the trails slowed me down a lot which caused this run to be my second longest ever run, time-wise. The positive to that is that this is great training for my switch to trails and ultras in the near future.

Started at a new hot yoga studio with 90 minutes today, generating tons of sweat. I should wear my HRM for one of these and see what it gets up to. My goal is to do this four times a week the next few weeks.

BBS - Like everyone said, don't read too much into it. Fuel back up and recover well and the next one is bound to be better.

RA- pretty snazzy looking ride for DD

MBH - good to see you are bouncing back well, soon you'll be thinking about another 'thon

Dan - rest up and hope you feel better

Jill - That 22.5 must have been quite a trek. Hope you get the proper beer/carb/protein ratio for recovery

Hope 4boys + DS are rocking it at Columbus!!

Very funny, Jill. Nice run, though. My run was supposed to be about what you ultimately did, per my pre-run MapMyRun reconnaissance. Garmin reading in real time, though came up a little less. I'm just happy it was close and still made 22.

More or less a recovery day today. I took the road bike out this afternoon for a short 35 minute spin through the neighborhood. That was about all my legs had in me after yesterday.

BBS - sorry about the tough long run but those things happen. The importance of hydration and nutrition before and during the run can never be overestimated. Believe me it's a lesson I've had to learn (and re-learn).

RA - have a fun BOB run. Maybe DD will opt for a long nap in it

Dan - patience, you'll be back soon

MB - nice easy 8

zrun - sounds like you're enjoying the yoga. I should try that. DD and I did a Pilates class a few years ago but we didn't stick with it.

Phew, a little down time during my homework break. I missed you all to stay away for very long. Life's a bit crazy right now...lots of classroom observation, group projects, and other responsibilities aside from the normal daily routine. Shins have been yelling at me so I took today off and probably tomorrow as well. Hopefully resticking to my regular stretching and icing routine will have me back out there soon.

Have a great weekend everybody and keep up the awesome job at everything you've been doing!

Stupid Bears!

6 or so miles. After 4 miles DD was throwing things out of the stroller and starting to scream. Great!

Found out my buddy ran a 3:08 in Grand Rapids - this year he has beaten my HM PR and now my marathon PR. Grrr. Nah, he deserves the results he got. However; I've still got him in the 5k, 8k, 5M, 10k, 15k and 10M. Anyway, I signed up for that marathon on Nov 6th - may the lord have mercy on me as I just don't think my body is going to left me set a new PR. What the heck am I doing?!

Dan - I'm not sure you'd fit in the stroller. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten on Ironman - a bit lighter with skinny tires. DW wishes I'd gotten the Revolution with the spinny front wheel. No pleasing anyone.

Jill - great job the Hawk beating 22.5.

Hawk - Nice job on the recovery. Hope your Phillies pick it up tonight.

Alex - That's college life. Enjoy it but know when to step back. Ice those shins!

zrun - DW used to do hot yoga before DD came on the scene. She loved it. Sounded sweaty and smelly to me. Enjoy.

mailbox - good job on the 8 miler.

Hi everybody. Late post.

Jill- sounds like a terrific run.

BBS - I once got chills and barfiness and lightheadednes less than a half mile from my house after a 19 mile run. I actually thought I was going to have to stop at my friend's house to lie down, even though she only lives three blocks from me.

Dan- I wish our collective will could just make you better. Hang in there.

Alex- a Junior now?

MBH- you are coming back nicely.

RA - when my kids began talking, they were my fartlek coaches. I'd let them dictate when I sped up and slowed down. I would also get some decent speedwork in when one would say, "I have to go to the bathroom."

CMJ- nice long run!

zrun- I can't wait to hear how you benefit from regular hot yoga. Never tried it myself.

Today was a gorgeous day, and I needed a recovery, so we thought it would be fun to go out and do a c25k workout. My six year old and mr jebba ran/walked, and I pushed my 3 year old in the stroller. 30 seconds of running with 4.5 minutes walking for 35 minutes total. My 6 year old did great, and would even throw in some running during the walk portion. Mr jebba thought it was a bit too easy, because he was shuffling along at 6 year old's pace. I just thought it was lovely to get outside. After, we stopped at the pond and fed the ducks and geese.
