Nother rester for me today. Right foot still hurting in the arch department. I think I will take you guys advice on the 'get new shoes' deal. I just gotta find time to get to the running store. Gonna hit the sack early so I can hit the woods for what will probably be another uneventful evening hunt... (actually seen a buck yesterday morning, but he was a bit too small for my taste [see username;)])

Hawk doesn't show a 20k split, but there's a half split of 1:41:40. I am also tracking a law school buddy who looks like he's going for a sub 3, based on his splits, and the Chilean miner, Edison Pena looks like he's going a little slower than 9:30 pace. I heard his longest run was 10 miles, but he's obviously got some cajones, so it'll be interesting to see how he does.

Me- Imma head out this afternoon for a recovery jog or maybe just a brisk walk.

Jebba - Hope it's a sunny day for your jog/walk

Rob - Take care of that achilles! Your right about the Melatonin. I'll remember that next time. Do you use it only when traveling?

zrun - Who ya got today in the games. Hope the PT gets you back on the road.

BBS - Good luck with that arch! I get all my shoes via roadrunnersports.com

Pretty day here. Did 23 min. Stiff and achy from airplane seats but went ok. Will add 3 minutes every few days.

Feeling a bit better so headed to the fishbowl this morning. Uneventful 2500m. It did feel good to get moving. The warm moist air did the job.

Still fumbling with last minute details here. Son4 and I are flying into Tucson on Tuesday. Plan for a couple relaxing days with my parents. Already mapping out a run for Wednesday. Thursday, I think I have a ride to Phoenix. Still don't have a place to stay Thursday night. A friend from church said she has a friend that might give me a place to stay. Once I get to the starting line on Friday, I can relax! Then, the whole getting back to Tucson on Sunday... Hoping that my mom will come for the celebration in Phoenix, but not sure if they are up for that.

NYC marathon Runner tracking is overwhelmed and can't get anything past the 14 mile split for Hawk... wait, just got a finishing time of 3:30:50. Must have been a rough 2nd half but congrats to Hawk on hanging in there.

Jill - smart to do it as a workout, and the PR is a nice little bonus. Taper, taper, taper.

Nice job everyone else. Back to Bears/Bills and civil war in my house, Bills actually might have a chance but I said that the last 2 weeks.

Looks like Hawk got a BQ but not the time he wanted. Bummed for him - still he just ran NYC and that's exciting.

Rest day for me Actually, I'm really pretty good. My quads are tender, as is my right ankle but walking normally. I too am stunned by the negative split. I was patient and let the race come to me. I actually left better running faster after having aches and pains in the first 10 miles, mostly from the road camber.

4boysmom - good job in the pool

Dan - great to see you getting out there again

Jebba - hope the recovery jog was nice and easy

Chances - Take are of that achilles.

zrun - hopefuly the yoga relaxed you for the football. You may need to go back.

BBS - rest up.

Jill - great job the 10 miler. That's a big PR. You being bashful and withholding your time?

You don't know how hard that was for me to do. There were a few times during the event that I just want to drop the pace down and run hard but I have to trust my gut instinct and stick with my plan. I kept telling myself that I did not train all these months to race a 10 miler, I trained to race a marathon. That is what kept me in check. Tapering is hard sometimes.

Hey guys/gals,

Finally checking in again. Zrun's time for me sounds right but the official results won't go up until 8pm. I had 3:30:54 on my watch and I stopped it a few seconds after I finished.

So what happened? Well, in a nutshell I just didn't have my A game today. It just goes that way in marathons sometimes. I started exactly the way I wanted to and that half split had me perfectly positioned to execute my plan, which was to drop the hammer at about 16. But when the time to step it up came, it just wasn't there and my splits soon started going in the wrong direction. I never really hit the wall, it was more like a slow bleed. After about 20 it became all about "preserving the BQ." Despite how close it was at the end, I pretty much knew I had it at around 24. Considering how hard I had to really fight for this without my best stuff, I'm pretty happy with the result.

NYC is an absolutely awesome event. Crowds are into it the whole way just like in Boston. The weather today was definitely a challenge, though. Very chilly and windy at the start; those first miles on the Verrazano were bone chilling. The wind would also sneak up on you whenever you came to a cross street. And the bridges were definitely challenging. The Queensboro, the one that worried me for months, turned out to be my undoing - it was also where Gebresailasse dropped out so I guess I've got that on him.

So that's the short version of my story. I'll do a full report soon. What's up next? Not much for awhile.

Jill - way to kick ass on that 10. Scary to think what you will do at Philly.

I was just on flotrack and Haile geberselasse said in his post race press conference that he is retiring. If you do not know who he is, he is the current marathon world record holder and much more. It was kind of a shock to everyone.

10 mile race. Weather conditions were near perfect. The flyer said flat course. Liars. Most races around lakes have hills. This race had a bunch of smallish hills.

Got to the race late, which takes some effort since it started at noon. Didn't have time to stretch correctly, and started too far back in the pack. I spent the first 2 minutes losing time to slower runners in the way.

There was no marker for mile 1, so I had no gauge on how fast I went out. Hit mile 2 in 13:59. I was aiming for 7:40 pace so this was way way way way way too fast. The race was probably already ruined. I decided to use this as a learning experience. I would slow to goal pace and hang on for as long as I can and hope the time in the bank was enough cushion.

Miles 3, 4(hilly), 5 in 7:32, 8:00, 7:35. Half way in 37:06. My goal was 1:16:55 to break my pr, so I was 1:40 ahead of pace, but hurting pretty bad.

Miles 6 (some hills), 7 (some hills), 8 (some hills) in 7:54, 7:57, 8:04. Fading and hurting.

7 miles in 52:57 was a 25 second alltime PR and 8 miles in 1:01:01 was a 6 second alltime PR.

Miles 9 (some hills), 10 in 8:09, 7:57. No more PRs. Both times missed by 9 seconds.

#2 alltime 10 mile run in 1:17:06.

The lack of good pre-race prep, the bad starting spot, the hills, and the lack of good pacing cost me.

A good race none the less, it was a fundraiser for a scholarship. Some aches in the hammies.

Mileage is down but the intensity is up as I chase PRs. If the weather cooperates I might go to the track next weekend and go after another 10 mile or half marathon PR Good running, everybody.

That was a shocker indeed. But as Meb said afterwards, Haile has nothing left to prove. He's done it all and had a great career.
