Excellent LR, Benger. It's always a good sign when you can finish a run strong like that and nail the progression pace by feel.

ks, did I read correctly that you did 25 yesterday? Yowza.

I already knew FF is really in her 20s, and I'm glad to see the millbot is aging gracefully too. Of course 40 will probably hit him like a ton of bricks.

Today I did something completely new for me, an indoor triathlon. This was a low-key event at our local YMCA, sponsored by the Ann Arbor Triathlon Club. Maybe 50 competitors total. Unlike an outdoor event, this one was divided into three 15 minute segments, with your "score" determined by your total distance in the swim + bike + run. I ran a reasonably hard 20-miler yesterday, and was feeling it this morning, so I just wanted to use it as a recovery and cross-training exercise. Except of course that I am incapable of taking it easy when anything competitive is on the line.

I started in a "wave" with three other competitors. Since you cover the least distance in the swim anyway, it made strategic sense to take it fairly easy in the swim, kill myself on the bike, then get whatever I could out of the run.
Swim: 850 yards in 15 minutes (for the Pro, that's 1:45 per 100 yards). Swim Coach Bethany was counting laps, which gave me extra motivation to relax and concentrate on form.
T1: We had 5 min to get upstairs to the spinning studio. I sproinged out of the water, jogged to the locker room and changed quickly. No child-shoving was necessary.
Bike: 4.37 miles in 15 minutes, whatever that means. Counterintuitively, you can increase the distance at a given rpm by increasing the resistance setting. I tried to keep the cadence at 80-85rpm, and in the last minute or so I lowered the resistance and upped the cadence to facilitate the transition to the run. Very tired at the end of this.
T2: We had a luxurious 5 minutes before the run, considering that all we had do to was walk about 20 yards to the TM. I drank some water, stretched, did some easy walking on the TM. By the time we were ready to start my legs were sort of working again.
Run: 2.24 miles in 15 min, 6:42/mile. Definitely feeling the bike and yesterday's LR, but happy with the pace. Cranked up the TM and finished at sub-6:00 pace for the last minute.

I cooled down with about 2 easy miles on the indoor track. When I left, I was 2nd overall out of about 20 finishers so far, but the person ahead of me was another guy in my AG, so no soup for me. Hey, speaking of soup, I'm hungry now.

Everyone enjoy the rest of the weekend.
