Ran a 14 mile loop this morning that I mapped out last night. Mostly the trails that I usually run on, but I went a couple of miles through some neighborhoods I have never run through before to connect a couple of trails together into the loop. Warm and humid out, I tried to start out conservative. Once I got back to the trail around mile 5, I happened to come across a local group running about 30 secs/mile slower than me and stayed with them for a mile. That worked out well, as after a mile I got back to 8:30s and felt good through the end even though the temps had climbed to the upper 70s.

DW's b-day today, we celebrated mostly yesterday as Son1 and I got an invite to Cubs/Yankees tonight. As a White Sox/Mets fan I may actually root for the Cubs for this one.

Great job on the hardware yesterday, kfuller! Sounds like a fun race!

RA - good luck on the 10k today in what looks to be tough conditions.

Rest day for me, and I need it... I've been fighting sinuses for the past week and a half, I think they put the knock-out punch on me last night. I'm feeling pretty awful. Hopefully I'll wake up feeling a tad better tonight.

Had a great 9 miler on the trails yesterday though

BBS - Get better so you can enjoy your day. No chance of a PR. That's 37:58 from 2008. Last two years I've been in the mid 38s.

zrun - nice job on the 14. Happy Birthday to your DW

So, 10k race... Legs felt dead, like I was dragging lead weights around, and my quads hurt like crazy. Went out a too fast; faded in the middle miles but picked it up. Official results:

Time: 39:08 / 6:18 mpm

OA: 19 / 709

OA Male: 18/368

AG: 1/61

Splits look bad:

1 - 6:08 - ouch

2 - 7:07 / 13:16 - WTF! Marker was at least 2.1 miles... oh well...

3 - 5:38 / 18:54 - super fast - OK, it was a short mile...

4 - 6:35 / 25:30 - oh dear, the wheels fell off.

5 - 6:02 / 31:33 - got a 2nd wind, picked it up but this looks too fast. Garmin measured it short. Still, made up at least 5 places

6 - 6:18 / 37:51 - joined up with the 5k (went off 15mins after 10k start) so had people to beat

0.2 - 1:17 / 39:08 - trying not to puke.

I'd like to have been under 39mins but it was all I had and those middle miles doomed me. So, my slowest 10k in at least two years. Temps were in the 60s with a light breeze but, as zrun stated, it was humid. I got a nice plaque for the AG win. Sweet!

Ran about 4 miles, stopped when I started losing circulation in extremities. There's a part of me that I think is in denial, and yet despite it all I can still run. I keep thinking that if I just ran a bit more I could get over this spot of bother, but the reality is that not only are racing days over, the running might soon be over for good as well. I'll enjoy the runs that I can get in, and not look past the next one. Once a new heart valve is in, I have no way of knowing what restrictions I'll have. Live for the moment.

Flyby here. We just got back and I need to get ready for church. Son1 and I worked the Woman's race yesterday and had a blast! We were on the bike course directing traffic. Wish I could have been someplace where I could have cheered these ladies on more. Our race was today. All in all, a decent race. I don't think I was totally recovered from last weekend, and it was stupid windy. Quite pleased with the effort and know what I need to work on for the next race. Matching hardware for us--3rd AG.

Great running all and hope all the dads have had a great day.

I got out for a road ride this morning and it went well. 2 hours, 30 miles. I'll take that. Seems I've actually figured some things out and am cycling better these days.

It was humid, so as long as I was moving and creating my own wind it was OK. But when I stopped at around 22 for a pee break I started dripping.

Back to running tomorrow. 4 mile club race, maybe on Tuesday.
