Wow, already afternoon and no daily thread yet.

Went to the park with Vicki and Donnie. He rode his longboard, she walked the dogs, and I ran.

I did end up winning my AG yesterday. Results were all messed up and had me listed with the 5K runners. Due to errors neither Vicki or me were listed in the results in the newspaper today. Kinda bummer about that. Still, we both won our age groups and picked up our awards today.

Congrats on the AG win, Don!

4 mile recovery run this morning with DW, who was running 7. Then loafed around waiting for the rain to stop, but it never did, so eventually I got on the bike anyway for a very slow & hilly & soggy 38.5 miles.

Don: Congrats!

Because the forecast today was for hot, sunny, & muggy, the family and I headed off to a waterpark. It was a blast. We also made it home in time for the second half of the women's world cup final. While I've never played soccer and rarely watch it, the game was thrilling. It is too bad the US lost but if anyone else had to win I'm glad it was Japan.

Congrats Don & Vicki!

Clark Lake Sprint Tri (0.5mile S, 13.5mile B, 4mile Run): 4th AG (/15). Award was 5 deep, lucky me. Slowest of the three times I've done this. I have an excuse for a slower swimming; it was longer per everybody's account. But I was stinking slow on bike and run. Don't want to use 90F weather as an excuse. 5th (swimming)/7th (biking)/3rd (running) is sort of in line with my current abilites against the competition. A few notes;

- Serious wake up call about bike fitness: Riding 30+ miles just a few times wouldn't cut it. All of my rides except a few trainer rides have been non-structured, just at whatever pace I could maintain for the entire ride (well, often faded toward the end). I rode hard. Consequently, my legs got toasted.

- High(er) ave. HR from MTB gave me a false sense of how hard I am working. Reality? Not much. The solid improvements I made on the Xterra races this year are simply from the pure improvements on the techinique, not from better bike fitness.

- HEED seems to work better than gaterade

- First race in a long time that I was able to get rid of air out of my system during the ride. I didn't have to deal with the air/gas issue during the run, yay! The lunch and driving home were enjoyable because I didn't have to deal with the puky/nausea feeling.

I got so PO'ed about the slow ride. So decided to ride, after a few hours of yardwork with the kids in mid-90F weather. 40miles done.

1st of 4 races in 5 weeks in the book. Next Sat: Xterra Versailles IN. Bring it on!!!

Another really ROUGH run.. Something is up. I'm starting to think it's a reaction to my cholesterol meds. I'm running more, not over-training, and I'm getting worse. IT fits with my starting to take the meds consistently. I'm going to not take them for a few weeks and see if i improve. We'll see. and YES, I will talk to the Dr, as I'm sure I can try something else.

Weekly running summary for me:

Mon: 4mi run at the beach (too hot to run in the city)

Tue: 4mi run at the beach (too hot to run in the city)

Thu: 6mi run 'round the Charles River (beautiful evening!)

Fri: 3.5mi run 'round the 'hood

Total: 17.5mi. I wasn't able to do any runs this weekend due to going away to a wedding. Not that I'd normally let going away stop me but the days were packed with long drives and activities so there was no way. My body will probably appreciate the extra rest.

This week promises to be scorching hot here so I'll have to adjust my runs to evenings at the beach again. I think by the end of the week though the beach might not even suffice so I might have to resort to the treadmill in the basement. Sacrilege in the summer but whatever it takes, right?

Falmouth Sprint Tri, 1/3 mi swim, 9 mi bike, 3.1 mi run

1:09:15 good for 12/42 in my age group and 266/684 overall

swim 7:11 (8/43), bike 28:46 (4/43), run 29:48 (27/42)

Wicked helpful current assist during the swim. Super fun rolling, twisty, bike course. Flat run along the ocean. I just run slowly. Legs didn't feel trashed for the run, so I think this is just where I'm at right now. Again, I think the heat and total lack of shade were more limiting than my speed on the bike. I'm very happy with how I did.
