On this day in 1904, the original two-act version of Giacomo Puccini's opera "Madama Butterfly" was poorly received at its premiere at La Scala in Milan, Italy.<br><br>
What do those stinky Italians know?<br><br>
Some seriously good workouts yesterday. Well done, folks!<br><br>
SuperDave: Super impressive pace, and congrats on your win. Very awesome! I mean, think about it, how many of us can say that we won a race? Not many.<br><br>
Dougie: Way to ramp up the miles... LSD: nice and smartly.<br><br>
Me...<br><br>
1:30 Trainer session:<br>
o WU - 20 min<br>
o 7 x 7' G7 (G5 normal) w/3' rest<br>
Pushed avg 294W and felt pretty good toward the end. In fact, I was so engrossed in my book (Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth"<img alt="wink.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/wink.gif"> that I nearly did another interval. Which is good, because my stated goal for Feb was to get comfortable with a quality workout at around the 1:30 time.<br>
Followed immediately by...<br><br>
4 mile brick run. Just when I thought I had done my little 4 mile brick route faster than I would ever match a few weeks ago, I beat it this morning in a rather easy fashion. I was pushing, but I wasn't trying to beat it, meaning I had plenty in the tank. I attribute that to getting stronger on the bike.<br><br>
Great day, Tri-spokes!<br><br>
Oh, and today, if I can get out of work, I plan to attend my Tri-club's winter clinic, where the first speaker will be none other than Jarrod Shoemaker followed by the alway interesting Dave. McGillivray (Boston Marathon Race Director).

Spending the morning hanging with DS while BrewDad and his crazy group do a Boston Sim run by running down a mountain for 15-18 miles.<br><br>
40-ish mile ride planned for this afternoon. Should be a gorgeous day for it.

Got up early to get a run in before the rain. Of course, it was still dark so I wasn't able see if it was just a puddle or if it was ice. I ended up slipping on the ice and going down. Hard. Of course, I had jsut taken off my gloves, so ripped my hand open but good. Landed on my left knee, then somehow rolled right. Finished out the run. Afterwards, discovered I really ripped up my right knee. It was decent run, and I finished feeling like I could have gone further. 8.82m, 1:19, 9:02<br><br>
Quick shower, then headed up to Last Chance to cheer on Yo Sake and Janie. It's a 1m loop. Had a blast cheering everyone on, and stayed a long time after they finished.<br><br>
Tomorrow's a rest day, then Monday it's back to the fishbowl. Suggestions on dealing with road rash in the pool???

Headed out late morning for what was planned to be about 16 miles. Only made it a little over 13 before I packed it in. I think I was a bit off on my hydration and it really brought me down. Oh well. Headed to a very very crowded pool in the evening. Waited and waited for room and finally got in for about 20 minutes of nothing but drills.

Hi all!! Remember me? <img alt="smile.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif"><br><br>
Just got home after capping of a 65.5 hour work week Monday-Sunday. Couldn't run this morning because freezing rain was falling, and there was 1/4+ inch of it on all surfaces when I woke up. Streets were just a pure sheet of ice. But it warmed up to 44 while I was at work, and the freezing rain turned to rain rain. Now streets are rather flooded, but some areas are worse than others, so I'm going to change clothes, put my headlamp on medium-high and try to avoid the mini-lakes around the 'hood. Probably 4-5 miles if I don't get too soaked!

38 miles in the books on a sunny 60 degree day here in the Pacific NW. Reacquainted myself with the Alpe de Blooming Fern. The compact crank makes a world of difference. <img alt="biggrin.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/biggrin.gif">

Yeah! First run in many a day. I don't know if this is the start of my base building, but lets hop so. I haven't been training, or posting, for quite a while.<br><br>
36 minutes of easy running today. My Garmin was w/o a charge and I did not run one of my regular routes, so I'm not sure how far, but it doesn't really matter. I put it down as 4, although it was probably more.<br><br>
I'm still working out some issues I have with my sinuses. I got a CT scan and the doc says everything looks fine, except for a slight inflammation. I'm taking a nasacort (sp) nasal spray and Alavert. It seems to be helping, but I still don't feel right and I'm much more tired than I normally am.<br><br>
Tomorrow I'm going for an easy ride on the trainer. I have the day off from work, but the kids are in school. Yeah! Unfortunately, it sounds like it is going to pour tomorrow, so my wife and I will need to find an alternative to the snowshoe trip we had planned.

2.5 hr leading a spin class. Good thing because I felt like [email protected] and would have cut it early if I was solo in my garage. Hammy cramps and just generally not feeling like a good workout.<br><br>
supposed to do 30min run., but I spent more time stretching than running so 1 @ 12:38, had to bail to go get the kids<br><br>
then 60min swim.. I made it about 10yds <img alt="smile.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif"> Splashing around in the kid pool wit da boys. DS4 learn "to swim" today he proclaims. He can now float around the pool solo. He didn't want to stop but we were prunes and we have a cubscout blue and gold tonight or I'd have let him!

All: Nice workouts as always. Nice to see some rest days in there too.<br><br>
Thor: Thanks for the shoutout. Congrats on your 4mi brick PR <img alt="smile.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif">.<br><br>
Me: 45min of weights earlier in the day followed by 60min of yoga this evening. I can't believe how amazing yoga makes me feel, especially this evening's with all the twists and stretching. Is there such a thing as yoga high?<br><br>
This was a good week for me: 19.5mi of running and 3 hours, 30min of strength/yoga. Just the kind of balance I need.<br><br>
Good night tri-folks!

I redeemed my poor trainer ride on Saturday with a pretty good run yesterday. Not a HM-PR, or anything like I'm reading in the RRs, but a good 15km run in the sun. Felt really great! Good work everyone!

Great job everyone. Hobey - I'm so jealous of your outdoor rides. We saw a group out while we were running, I'm such a wimp, though, with the cold weather.<br><br>
Tri club meeting. 1500-meter swim, ~3-mile run. Next week is a bike/run brick. It's a fun group, lot of newbies. It's just nice to be out with others this time of the year - we tend to hibernate.
