On this day in 1996, Kasparov loses a chess game to a computer.

6 mile Z2 run planned for this afternoon since BD is currently out with his group for 21-24 miles through PDX.

Watch out for those computers peeps!

Blustery day here in Cowtown! 31mph sustained winds, gusting to 43mph. Early morning run to beat the clipper blowing in later. Same route as last week, but 4mins slower. I'm blaming it on yesterday's ride and today's winds. 8.76m, 1:19, 9:05pace. Had hoped to do a road ride afterwards. Unless I did a tailwind special, ain't no way I was riding outside! So, I sat on the trainer and went nowhere for 45mins.

We have a wind advisory today...30 mph gusts.

I just got back from a 6 miler. Was supposed to be 8. F-in blisters.

I'm back! Sort of. Still coughing still headachy and still having bouts of vertigo, but each is getting less in duration/intensity. So:

4 slow miles yesterday stopped once to hock up a lung, and got deliberatly splashed from mid-thigh down with nasty salty, slushy water. I say deliberately because all other motorists slowed slightly when approaching me and moved over a bit. This one guy moved closer and sped up. Still it was all good, and great to be outside and running again.

Got home from work @6:00 to find that I had gotten my coach Troy Hillacious CD in the mail. Happy Valentine's day to me. So:

This morning--Hillacious workout/brick four miles again, but this time, the difference was that it was 8 degrees w/30 mph winds gusting to 40. Had some serious white-out conditions. But it still felt great to get in a decent sustained workout. I have to go into work soon though, not looking forward to piloting my car through those whiteouts and slick roads.

Go Deep Blue! Those chess masters are incredible. I think I read something about them being able to think seven layers deep. Crazy. I can't keep track of my pace while running....

I hit the road in some super weather for a 14 miler. Drank one bike bottle of water during the first 10, then looped by the house where I did a bottle exchange. Which reminds me I need to go out to the carport and grab my empty. Also ate a small bag of mini-pretzels and a bag of Sport Beans. Came out to around a 8:50 pace. I hit a couple middle miles in the 8-8:15 area. This week I get back to normal with a quality session and a tempo run. Don't even ask baout my bike time in the last week....that has priority one.

Glad you are on the mend Charlotte.

I got on the trainer for the first time ever. I did the DVD that came with it - Robbie Ventura, Race Day. It was surprisingly good, and really hard. 5 minutes into the race, I had to remind myself I haven't been racing crits and should probably dial down the intensity. Still, it was hard to get my heart rate down, even with going easier. A great workout.

Now, I'm off to the first meeting of our new tri club at the Y. We're in the pool, and then going out for lunch afterwards to talk about the upcoming season.

Happy weekend everyone!

I don't want to brag, but it was another sunny, beautiful day here in Munich. So, I did what everyone would do, I hit the road on the bike. It was around 0 this morning, but had warmed up quite a bit - it was probably around 5 Celsius for most of the ride, but with plenty of sun. I covered just shy of 70kms, in around 2 and a half hours. Awesome being outside! Have a blast today everyone!

Slow getting to post, but not slow getting to my workouts early this morning. First a few shout-outs...

CC-Girl: Way to get back on the horse. As for cars slashing you, to be honest, it doesn't bother me in the slightest anymore. Chalk it up to it being a part of what we do. I will often play a game on really sloppy days, and that is, I try to splash the cars before they do me. I often win, but I often lose the "who's most wet" derby. And yes, sometimes it gets really cold, but hey, it's also fun. Sometimes.

Chicago-Area Tri-Peeps: All that crap you had yesterday is now entering New England. It has been snowing on and off here for the last, like, 4 days with little accumulation. Sometimes it would even turn to rain, but today the front is pushing through and bringing sub-10F temperatures and -- gasp! -- more snow. Yikes!

der Kaiser: Nice run!

Beth: Very cool introduction to the Trainer! It is a very fun tool if you look at it that way. Ingore the people who say that they hate it, because you don't want them influencing you. Just know that it will hurt as you get more miles in and keep it all quality.

Me...

1:30 Trainer session:
o WU - 20 min
o 7 x 7 min G7 (G5 normal) w/3' rest
Pushed avg 289W. Took me awhile to get my power up on warm up. Intervals felt okay even though I could tell my legs were fatigued from yesterday's run. All good. Goal was to push quality watts and do it to last through an hour thirty.
Followed immediately by...

4 mile brick run. Legs were very fatigued as I transitioned and pumped with pace right away. Wasn't easy and still felt fatigued, but they moved. Great overall pace with near PR for course.

Checkmate!

I Had to bail on my ususal Sunday morning run as we all slept in and we would have missed Rugby if I had ran - so instead I will run it tonight - 90 mins and instead of being accross the fields and through nice lanes it will be circuits around the local town
(Too dark to run Cross Country)

Herded the kids down to the city this morning to watch DW set a 5K PR in the cold. Now it's cleaning time, cooking time, go-get-ice-cream time.

Not sure if I'm working out today or not. Knees feel good today and I'd like to keep it that way. On the other hand, a swim sounds nice, and that's pretty easy on the knees. We'll see.

Make your move, Peeps!

110.00112mi on the TM.

I even had runner's high.

I've also learned that when doing an LSD I feel better going a little bit faster than trying to go really slow. 10:20/mi seems to be my perfect easy pace these days not the 11:00-12:00/mi of old. I felt horrible doing 11:00/mi but when I bumped it to 10:20/mi I felt really good and got that high. Strange.

I might try to get in some yoga this afternoon while mother nature decides if she wants to give sunshine or whiteouts. CrAzY weather.

Edited to add: no yoga but a fun hour of shoveling snow with the consistency and weight of cement off my driveway. Woo. Hoo.

PS. I didn't really run 110.0011mi. In honor of the subject that's my mileage in binary notation. It comes out to 6.2mi (well, 6.19 but close enough) so call me a geek.

Holy jeez is it cold out there! Just finished up my first brick of 2008. 1:30 ride on the trainer, lots of big ring mixed w/easy spin ups followed by 15 min run which I had to do outside (no dreadmill)

27.8mi bike/1.4mi run

Phew. Time for hot cocoa.

Stay warm all!

Went to see Cloverfield at the pictures. Not bad at all. And wagammama's on the way home. And lost starts in 15 minutes. And Adriana is being cute again.

Ran 21 miles with my running club. A few of the crazier types did 24. I have no idea why they would want to do that 10 weeks out from Boston. I stayed back with a smaller group and we ran a nice strong pace, reeling in a few of the early leaders towards the end. I'm feeling really strong right now, I just hope that I don't peak too early or do something foolish to get injured.

Took DS and friend snowboarding. 3" of fresh snow. Not much of a workout for me though. DS is wiped out - did a great job as a newbie in the terrain park. Friend was a little too forgetful with the thank yous considering I was able to get a free lift tix for him.
Lifted 2 sets after getting home.
This is going to be an extremely busy week for me - I need to keep my focus!!

Still fighting this bug, I think it's a sinus infection. Annoying. Started Antibiotics last night.

Today, led 2 hour spin class - wasn't feelin in it, but I have to tell you I'm glad I had agreed to do it, else I never would have gone and would have used the "birthday" card to bail on my workout

Immediately followed by 1:30 swim clinic where we taped members of our group above and below water. 600yds or so, with about half of it sprinting.

Then followed by :45 in the kiddie pool doing sword fighting with pool-noodles with DS7 and hauling DS4 around the pool. DS7 finally did 4 laps (12.5yds) "almost" continuous freestyle. He's finally made a breathrough on his swimming!

Now where that's cake

Will rbannon be writing a RR?

6 mile run is finally in the books.

Beer bread is on its last rise and will be going into the oven shortly. Used a Kona porter with real Kona coffee in it.
