Have a good run Dan and later maybe try a nap? I recall you saying a while ago you often don't sleep well and you feel tired on your runs. Just something to think about.

hello everyone,

Rest day for me...and I need it! Pushed a bit hard on my 16 miler yesterday. I'll be going to church in a bit - we meet in an elementary school, so part of my exercise will be moving in all the stuff!

Dan: Enjoy your 10+ miler. Hope the weather is good...supposed to just be cloudy today, but then the forecast is calling for 10 straight days of rain...ugh.

Alex: Enjoy the rest!

4bm: You never rest do you!?! Sounds like a great swim, and a fun day headed out with your kids. Enjoy!

Everyone else - have a good sunday!

Oh baby! Overstaffing for the win. Kinda stinks that I got up at 7:20 to go work an hour but I think I'll go make up the 2 hours and 50 minutes I have left in a giant nap lol.

P.S. Is anyone here interested in doing a KICKRUNNERS March Madness Bracket? I have made a league on ESPN.com and anyone that wants to join can. The league name is "KICKRUNNERS" and the password is the same: "KICKRUNNERS". This should be fun - hope a bunch of you join!!!

Well, glad that's over. Got in 10 but they were hard. Did an out and back route that I haven't done in months and forgot how many loooooooong hills there are. Kicked my butt. Was still able to SSFF the last 3/4's.

It will be a long nap. maybe till the Laker Rocket game comes on!

Another up tempo run today. I drove out to run with another running club and boy are they fast. Their website states:

"The running pace is typically between 6:30-8:30-minute miles. There are those who take off, those who run in the main pack and those who go easy."

They weren't kidding. Their road loop is 11.5 miles, with some a good climb in the 9-10th miles. My marathon pace is their easy pace. About two dozen runners finished ahead of me.

28F and wind (chill 18F) at 8am. 12.5 miles total, with 11.5 miles in 84 minutes (7:18 pace.)

An all around nice running weekend of speedier pace runs, for me.

Hello,
I ran a 2 mile race in Yorktown Heights, NY (FDR Park) this morning. I finished at a respectable 21.12, which is pretty good for me. There were 2 hills and the second one was pretty steep, although it wasn't that long. I was fairly pleased with my time, given that I was wheezing big time up the second hill. It was about 38 degrees with light rain, and the Taconic Road Runners had a good turnout.

I'm back from my 5k. Not good. I'm pissed.

I got to the race site, which was right by Diversey Harbor on the Chicago lakefront with 30 minutes to the gun. I new it was going to be a chilly 32 but when I got out of my car the wind must have been at least 15 to 20 mph. Not good. I jogged over to get my timing chip and warm up a little before gettind back in the car.

The course was going to take us south by the zoo, then loop around the North Avenue playing fields and back. My plan was to come in around 19mins. Anything faster would be a bonus.

About 10 mins to go I headed back to start line and did some accelerations. I felt OK. Without much ceremony, we're off. I fought my way through some slower folks and settled in doing 5:50 to 6:00mpm. Nice and relaxed. I noticed that the wind was light, at first I thought it was just being blocked, then I realize that it was mostly at our back.

I hit the 1st miler mark in 6:01. Quite an easy effort, being wind somewhat assisted. Still feeling good. I start to pass a lot of folks by keeping the effort up with a sub 6mpm pace. As the course started to loop around I felt the wind. Not too bad.

I hit mile 2 in 12:07. I'd slowed to a 6:05 mile without noticing but I was still in good shape. For sure, I was putting in more effort than that split showed... I thought "if the wind stays as is I'm in good shape".

Wrong. The wind was now directly in our faces but I had no one to draught off. I was in no-mans-land. Bad move passing those folks a little earlier. As we continued, the wind was brutal. My face was getting dumb and my nose was freezing, making it hard to breath smoothly. I was running with a parachute. Now a few of the folks that I passed caught me and slowly creep by. With 1/3 mile to go I just needed to hold on and push hard.

I hit mile 3 in 18:45. What the &*^%! My 3rd mile was a 6:38! That's bad! That's really friggin' bad! I push to the finish holding off a couple of folks behind me. I stop and stare in disbelief at the 19:20 finish time on my watch.

I grab a bottle of water and a green bagel and try to thaw out my face since I can't even talk. I decide to head over to my car and just get the heck out of there. No point hanging around and prolonging the misery. I have no idea of my placing. Probably in the top 20 or so.

Driving home, I realize that some 18min guys weren't that far in front of me. But still, 19:20 is 30 seconds off my PR and way off what I felt I was capable of.

Sorry to rant but my performance was very disappointing. Now I'm in the mood to go run some angry miles...

Morning gang!

Dave, great job yesterday, that's really exciting!
Dan - good run this morning
Alex, Brian, Kevin & Liz - enjoy the rest day!
4boys - I don't know how you do it some days, I really don't. Nice going
Roots - wow, nice going!

As for me...I lifted and did some core, now I'm debating about going out for a short 3 miler...just need to motivate myself. Had a fantastic time around the city yesterday celebrating St Pat's, so I'm kind of surprised I'm feeling up for a run at all!

In fact...let me share with you, the Chicago River!

Run Asics - Some days you step in it and some days you fly over -

My wife is still working, I will do something when she gets home.

This is week 2 of 7 training to gor from out of shape to out of shape but can jog Boston. I struggled to run 22 yesterday - previous high was 12 miles. It stunk the whole way, but I finished with only minor IT band irritation in a fraction under 3 hours.

Good running to all -
