2 hours to go til race time! (San Francisco Kaiser half). weather doesn't look too bad right now, but the forecast says wet/wind

i have my fingers crossed it's a tail wind, which for an out/back course is unlikely.....

Pink, I didn't see you thread...Hally will probably merge both.

As you can probably tell, I'm not big on the Superbowl...just another day for me. I'd rather do than watch...

OK enough procrastinating, I am off for a run now.

Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful day here in NY; about 40 and sunny now and going up to about 50.

I did a 2 mile w/u & c/d (1 mile with the dogs) with a 3.25 mile run. Followed with 10 mins core and 10 mins stretch.

Tomorrow I'm taking the day off from exercise since VRAA will be over! And I'll need a break -- I've really been working hard to accrue some points. I haven't lost any weight but my jeans are a bit looser in the waist so I guess I've made a little progress.

Go Giants! I'll check in on the game in between reading my book. And we want to watch the halftime show especially since we have upcoming tickets to see Tom Petty and Steve Winwood, and I think Petty is the headliner for the Superbowl, isn't he?

Nice runs this morning everyone!

GL Alan!

11 miles, first 7 with DH. We've had one of those weeks where we feel like we hardly saw each other. The uninterupted conversation made the miles speed by!

I don't follow football but my DH and sons do, so it'll be loud here. DH made his yummy chili yesterday and I'll definately enjoy that!

Have fun all!

Five miles this morning and felt like the easiest, smoothest, non-issued run I've had in awhile.. I kept it right around a ten minute pace, which felt really good. I do have a question though. According to our garmins, my running partner burns twice as many calories as I do per run. Why is that and how can I speed up my metabolism? Thanks for any advice. Have a great day. I'm headed for the beach!!!!

15.36 miles this morning in 2:22:51 (9:18 pace). I played the "Every-mile-must-be-faster-than-the-last" game with myself. Thus, I started off slow and plodding, sandbagging my first few miles so that I wouldn't have to get too fast by the end! Every time my pace picked up, I'd slow myself down, reminding myself that if I ran a mile too quickly, I'd have to pay for it because EVERY mile after that one would have to be even faster.

My splits were:
10:16
10:01
9:55
9:44
9:47
9:37
9:29
9:23
9:22
9:14
9:02
8:42
8:26
8:13
8:41 (cool down)

And here is the lovely bar graph showing how my time went down for each mile (except for my last cool down mile...)

It was so nice to run those miles on flat, dry roads, compared with last week's race in Derry!

Oh, very, very nice Robin!

Peg: Your friend's Garmin is probably running an older version of the unit software, which had a bug that (IMHO) mistakenly swapped pounds for kilograms when making the calorie calculations. You're doing exactly the right thing for your metabolism. Keep it up.

I started the morning with yoga, and am heading outside with DS to start reclaiming a section of lawn that he would like to turn into a veggie bed this summer. We'll turn it over and work (counts on fingers) about 280 litres of compost into it. Some time today, I'll go out for a shuffle. Sounds like a good day is on tap!

tomwhite - nice job
rtravers - now that's a negative split!

I did 16 miles with a friend from my running club. She's much faster than me, so I slowed her down and she sped me up and we both felt it was good for us. It was a littel hot for me - temp was about 40 degrees - but a nice run.

Football now.

Wow Robin. Nice.
Susan - congrats, you've been working hard and with a lot of determination. Rest easy on your day off.

19.5 hilly miles in 3:00 (ave 9:15/mile)
Shivery slushy, salty, sloppy slippery sloop. . .
no way to keep the prescribed steady pace up.
The sunny spot on the carpet looks inviting.

I had a nice 6 mile run (plus 1 mi w/u & c/d walking) in quiet snowfall. For the first time in a long time, there was no wind!

No Superbowling for me...I'm just not a fan. Like Susan, I'll be reading this evening. I'm reading a book about doping in the cycling world, especially concerning Lance and Floyd. If this book can be believed, I think I've been naive in believing any world-class cycling events can be won by non-drug using athletes.

Afternoon, everyone!

I hope Alan's race went well.... you must tell us how it went.
Great run, Robin!
Aija... wow, 19+ miles in that kinda nastiness!!!.... that's just amazing!!!

Did a nice steady 6 miles, with lots of hills, temp just above freezing. We'd had a big storm on Friday, ... wasn't sure what the traction'd be like, so wore the trail shoes. The run felt just fabulous!!!!!

It's 'Slugdom Sunday' as Mrs. Labduck likes to call it. We ran all of our errands yesterday, so today we just stay at home and do whatever we want. It will have to be inside stuff for me since my lawns are too wet to walk on, although I do have a nice bumper crop of moss that needs annihilation.

Let's see, I've got tax returns to finish, a DVD player to swap out, interior car cleaning, reading, maybe the Super Bowl...but no running or extra VRAA points to earn since my team is mired in the 6th place. I did not really like VRAA this time around since it was clear that my team would not do very well from about Day 3. Oh well, I guess that happens.

We got done with all our running arounds and errands yesterday too so that we could stay home all day. My 8 yr old, the football OCD child, has been watching pre-game stuff all morning and just now, I hear him say "It's ONLY 10:30!! The game doesn't start for 5 hrs!" - so I just shoo'd him outside to play for awhile.

Lab - you'd be in moss-hell at at our place. We have so much moss this year - more than I ever remember - starting to grow on the aggregate walkways we have, the rock retaining walls, etc. We have mucho-moss-annihilation to do this spring as well.

There's this strange thing happening right now - I see this yellow thing in the sky trying to peek out from broken clouds. I think I'm having flashbacks from 2 or 3 mos ago . . . so in about 1/2 or so, I'm heading out for an OUTDOOR run (haven't had one of those in about a month!). Days like this I wish I had a garmin. I want to do a different route than I usually do and the USATF site is taking forever to download on my dial-up computer.
