Sunday 10/3 Races, Long Runs, Funny Papers and Pumpkin Defrosting

Sunday Morning - 38 degrees here in Voorheesville NY. These cool October mornings remind me of breakfast at my Grandmother's house in those days before I met my wife-to-be and long before I became a runner. Great memories.

Yesterday's Masters' races:

10/02 Paul - Roadkill 10 mile Road Race, Chickasha, OK

10/02 Ileneforward - St George Marathon, UTAH

Today's races:

10/03 Hemerocallus - Run for the Toad, 25K
10/03 Fortunate One - Twin Cities Marathon, MN
10/03 bty - New Scotland 7.1 miler, Voorheesville, NY

I'm more anxious about today's race than I've been about almost any race I've run as an adult. I have no idea what to expect - it's all hills, including the final mile, which is up a road that is only 1 mile from my home but I have never run up, and have only bicycled up one time. I have to look at it as a "Set a course PR and get it over with" race, and then see what happens. It might be great, it might be ugly; I'm sure I can finish, even if it's with a few walking breaks.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning Pink and TW. Ran my 7.1 mile race which was more like 7.2, in an unofficial time of 53:48. I was aiming for 7:30 pace, and my log says 7.17 miles in 53:48 = 7:31. Good enough!

Does anyone know how I make this visible as a course with elevation instead of as a link to same? This is from my RA log:

<iframe frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" width="510" height=680 src="http://www.runningahead.com/scripts/maps/e49d51ea7ad947fba8522d6ca77a2338?unit=Mi"></iframe>

I'm kind of slow off the mark, BTY. I was just coming on to wish you good luck. Yes, close enough. Great race!

Congratulations to Paul on his recent two races. What fun running with the crowds in France!

Heme, outstanding! You really are a ruff-tuff trail girl.

Bummed not knowing what's going on with the TCMers, esp the dapper Ribs. Guess I'll go for a run and find out the results later.

Oxygen debt is a requirement, tomwhite. I hear you. Good plan.

Hot chocolate, Pink?

Good Sunday, all.

A beautiful morning for a 7 mile run around the lake, now for yard work.

Have a great Sunday.

Paul

I'm awake...I think. My ears are still ringing from SO much crowd noise, my voice is hoarse from SO much yelling and cheering, and my head slightly hurts from SO much beer! Ah, college football.

^5 bty on a your race and hitting your goal. And wtg Heme on your 25K yesterday and showing that knee of yours who's boss.

I think I'm going back to bed...carry on.

ETA: I was just reminded by Mrs. Labduck that we're suppose to go bacon tasting today. Tha't right - bacon tasting. I'm not quite sure what to expect from this...

still summer here with morning race temp at 75f.

8k on the UA campus... rolling, and about 30 turns in 8k... twisty! started smart, then worked my way up to within 20m a pack of 5 which included two of my training partners and the fastest women's masters runner in tucson. going around a corner at 3.5mi she looked back at me... uhoh, that means i had to pass her! worked my ass off going downhill a bit to 4.5mi, then surged on the flat and passed her and one of my partners. held on (barely) during the last bit uphill, but didn't catch my second training partner. satisfied with the race, nothing went wrong, and felt pretty good after a heavy week of 70mi in 7 days. fit in well with 31 jul 32:52 and 28 aug 32:11 5mi time trials.

splits: 6:15, 6:20, 6:12, 6:28, 6:03 = 31:18 (?)

speedy runners from all over in this race... chatted with some 6-foot 120-lbs blonde cuties from flagstaff during their cooldown... just in town to collect the prize money and to augment their training for club national xc in december... ah, to be 22 again... (ok, maybe not)... oh, and speaking about cuties, my nemesis crushed me by about 60 seconds... she's going to be untouchable in next saturday's 10 miler, her season goal race, rats!

Nice racing, mc. I didn't realize that getting that backwards glance means you've gotta pass. Those are some impressive splits.

Nice racing for you, too, Heme! Way to pull it all together and rock that second lap!

Way to nail that planned pace, BAP!

Hey Labduck, DH said that hung over is probably the only way to really do a bacon tasting. Better you than me, is all I'll say. And yeah, we were thinking you'd be celebrating last night.

Orange Mat, that's a very nice thing to say! I was thinking about you on my run yesterday. You said something about the natural progression of your long runs leading you to an 18 miler... I was just wondering where you'd cap that. Pretty soon, you'll be running a 50k long run! And remember, we all offer encouragement here, but you're the one doing the work. And a good job of it, too. (and I get that "cheated out of a run" feeling after doing XT, too)

Hi Opie! How's the foot? Good to see Brooke has you splitting up your runs and watching out for you. Did you say she's moving? Isn't that always the way it works, get something that's going so well, then boom. Hope you've learned some new stuff to see you through....

Nice chilly run, Pink! I think some of you (like BTY this morning) are having chillier mornings than we are! Personally, I'm kind of glad to have my outdoor cooler back. Made a big batch of chicken stock last night and set it out on the deck to cool. Too warm to do that up till now.

SS, what are you running at RVM? You guys are going to have another really good party this year. Sorry to miss it. Be sure to give Aija/Egret a big ol' hug from me!

Another gorgeous day here. Got a lot done yesterday (including teetering on a ladder to clean the upstairs living room windows!) and more to do today. First though, I'll get my contrarian butt out for a run, hoping for 10-12 miles. Oh... and I am running the Manchester NH marathon on Nov. 7, so I guess I need to work up to a long run here pretty soon.

Congrats BTY! Hi Erika! The PF is insidious, good days and bad days. This is a bad day. Yes, Brooke's moving soon. She just placed 3rd AG in our big triathlon last weekend, by the way. The strength training is something I never figured out on my own. I remember reading Brad Hudson's book and his master's plans call for that, but I didn't know where to start. I may continue to have her coach me by e-mail.

DS didn't get home until 2:30 in the morning from band contest and is very disappointed they only got 7th out of 12 finalists. They consider themselves at or near the top of the state. We're getting ready to go to his soccer game, and it's perfect weather! I'll bike around here after that.

Yep, mc, coming along nicely. It's fun watching the competition between you and your nemesis. She's got a way with words. I like her! Makes it difficult to choose sides.

PF. Grrrrr.

If I could, I'd fire up the best college band around and play outside Lab's window. Heavy on the percussion.

Cannot WAIT to hear all about TCM.

evanf, wish you could be here too. To run, have fun, and wash my windows. Vivian's AWOL. Oh, marathon, I guess. I'm pretty chill about it. Just want to get on with some studly trail training thereafter. Time for some new challenges.

1hr on spritely legs. Lots of young talent flying around the leafy trails. Must have rubbed off on me 'cause I felt like a kid today too.

Chip time 3:58:36, the best-planned, best-executed and easiest marathon I have ever run. Perfect conditions, and because my plan was just to get under four hours, I managed it so that I would do just that. Followed the 4 hour pacer for about 7 miles so I wouldn't go out too fast, and then ran pretty easily from there, with a lot of help from both Fortunate One, who broke me out of a logjam, and Prime Rib, who ran me in from 18.5. All we did was check the total elapsed time at every mile and subtract it from 4:00 and calculate what we needed to break four. At 22 miles I was 3:19 and small change and I said to him, "We have almost 41 minutes to run 4.2 miles. Unless I blow up, we're in, and I'm not blowing up."

I had almost even halves, 1:58 first half, and the only reason I slowed the second half was that from 20.5 to 24 miles there were lots of hills. I could have run longer today.

I can't tell you how happy I am. From not knowing two years and two months ago if I would ever run again to getting a BQ is a dream come true. Thank you everyone for the encouragement. Spareribs

This is spectacular Ribs!!! I'm so overjoyed for you today! congratulations!

While Lab was celebrating, the Beaver fans to the north were celebrating as well. It was a good day yesterday for Oregon football. And even though my son wasn't able to play in his football game yesterday, his team also won, so now they are 2-1. so, while yesterday he was thrilled with football, today he's moping because his Seahawks lost, and Vick was his fantasy football QB who's out now too. ahh, such highs and lows in football!

I should get out there and run today. Didn't get home til almost midnight last niight and just feeling lazy and dragging today. Have done some housework stuff, pulled all the dead stuff out of my garden, my car is a dusty dirty mess so I really need to wash that, plus, since I haven't run since Thursday, I need to do something about that too. But I want to just laze on the couch. But the VRAA guilt is getting to me . . .

Ribs, that is effing fantastic! Congratulations. I can't wait for April.

Awesome racing mc, bty, and heme! You make masters proud.

I just got back from the Cape and the Harwich Cranberry Harvest HM. I went out much faster than expected and by mile 2 I was cursing myself to slow down. But the bod would hear none of it. I manage to hold on and run a PR of 1:43:14 (unofficial), about 7:53 pace avg! I'm ecstatic! Everything went smoothly, but those last 2 miles were killers. Chillaxin now with my support crew of one.

Mike

Wooooohooooooo!!! Excellent running, Ribs!!

And Holy Crow, MC, lovely splits for that 5 miler!

ETA: Huge congrats on the HM PR, Mike!!!!

Slept in this morning and found that very little was sore when I finally pried myself out from under the covers. Ran 2.5 miles easy recovery down to the next concession road and back, then had a nice long stretch against the bridge railing at the bottom of my road. Knee is no worse for the wear.

There is definitely a fall chill in the air here, and some areas might get hit by our first frost tonight. I scrambled to pull a few containers into the garage so that I can save the plants to repot for under the lights the basement next weekend....... a job that should have been done 3 weeks ago!

Have a good one, everybody!

Yay for everyone else who hasn't posted yet, but ran fabulous races, like Byll and FO!

Whew, I'm tired from all that cheering.... YAY!!

7.75 miles for me, completing a well-rounded week of 43.7 miles, which included two non-running days. I think I've finally ditched that Dumbo feather. Meaning, I don't need to run everyday in order to get the miles in; I have confidence in myself that I will get my long runs done when I set out to do them. The beginner-mind demon of "what if I don't finish??" isn't gonna get me anymore. I can do this. I can commit.

OK, fine, one more.... YAY!!!

4.5 miles myself, a little heavy legged, after which I headed to the gym to stretch and say hello to my good friend, the foam roller.

Off to the gym again now to try and lift some weights.

By the way, is anyone familiar with this site? It gives detailed weather observations for various locations. Its useful for running logs.
