I debated whether or not I should make a 3rd Friday thread but vetoed that...I'm actually awake this morning.

Rest day today but off to work in 15 minutes and good luck Packers tonight against Da' Bears.

If only every day was Friday, right Alex?

I started the day with yoga and pilates to wake my body up. I will do 5 miles recovery today but am not quite ready to run yet. I'm thinking tonight ... after the sun goes down ... and it's COOLER!

Wow lots of crazy stuff happened at the Chi-town marathon apparently. Men's 1st and 2nd place separated by 5/100ths of a second. Almost-winner from Romania celebrating on the final stretch gets passed and gets 2nd, and they started closing it down around 4 hours afterwards due to inadequate water and other things at stations and high heat.

I hope the Chicago runners are all ok. A big change from the 50 degrees I ran it in a few years ago.

Ran a XC 5k with a friend today. She's new to running and it was her first race. 34:17ish (by my watch), 11:04's. It was a really fun course and I plan to go back and race it next year. I had a great time sharing her first race with her.

It was great meeting your friend, Jen, I hope she does more running.

I ran the same XC race. My time was around 25:00 (screwed up my watch), slower than I was expecting, but it was challenging. Still don't like 5Ks or running on trails, though - so I consider this race teh suck.

Plan tonight was an 11 mile medium-long run. I took it really easy because of the quads.

Even with the easy pace, my quads are a bit sore again tonight.
Run Segments
7 mile bike ride this evening to chart a 5-mile out and back run course.

I had some shall we say "unfinished business" after yesterday's inferno death march, so even though the run started out feeling like each leg weighed two tons and it was still so muggy you could see moisture in the air, it was cooler and I decided to run hard. By the end of the run my legs felt more like 2 lbs. each and I did the last mile at just over half marathon pace.

I feel better.

Ran (and walked) 26.2 today. Walked another 2 visiting the Steamtown National Monument.

I'll write up a full report, but the story of the day is I started the race with a slight fever and scratchy throat, which I first noticed Friday and got gradualy worse Saturday and Sunday. Race time temp 62F and 90% humidity. 75F at the finish.

It felt like soup from the opening gun. I told myself that I'd run 5 and see how I feel. With the downhill start, not bad! Mile 5 in 35:00 flat and mile 10 in 1:09:55. At that point I started to think I could do something. I held the 7min pace through 17 and by 18 I was going back-and-forth between shivering and heat flashes. My body was wacked.

Luckily, I had this experience before (Athens '05) in the heat and I did today what I did then. I shut it down at 18 and jogged/walked it in. That year, I found another race 3 weeks later.

1:31:20
1:45:05
3:16:25

Not upset, but its still a tough pill to swallow after putting in the miles. I am encouraged that I think my goal, or even sub-3 is in me someday soon.

More to follow. Sorry to hear about Chicago and TC. Scranton was not that bad, comparitively.
