Saturday I ran 60 minutes on the treadmill

Today I did 90 minutes.

I'm staying in a planned urban community called Eastwood City in Manila, Philippines.

The center block is a big open common area with little ponds, trees, lots of benches. On weekends vendors come and setup bazaars. Around the common area are high rise office buildings. Generally the first three floors are restaurants, shops, department stores, convenience stores, fast food places. etc. The top 20+ floors are businesses. The outer ring of buildings consists of condominiums and hotels. They bring in bands and performers on Friday evenings. The fountains in tn the pools are programmed to wave in time to music. There are no roads inside the campus - it is all foot traffic.

You can live, work, shop, go to entertainment - do everything in one campus. But I miss moving around. I also don't enjoy city living. So I'll be glad when it is done.

My hotel room looks over the river - see northeast or upper right portion of the map in the first link above. Manila is entirely unplanned. Stuff grows up whenever there is an opportunity. Directly across the river is a shantly town. If you expand the map you can see it pretty clearly. Most of the houses are concrete block squares with a corrugated tin roof. The houses are built very close together - maybe a cat could squeeze between buildings but a big dog wouldn't fit. The streets are narrow - small alleys are maybe 4 feet wide and bigger streets might be 8 feet wide - and the roofs hang over them. The sounds of dozens of rooster wake me up every morning. Sort of like medieval London. There is an improvised playground with a basketball hoop down by the river. I watch the children play there and along the river banks. This morning (Sunday) about mid morning it was apparent that everyone finished church and were out walking around - a Sunday morning paseo. I'll check again tonight to see if the same thing happens.
