Saturday I ran 60 minutes on the treadmill

Today I did 90 minutes.

I'm staying in a planned urban community called Eastwood City in Manila, Philippines.

A developer bought about 8 city blocks. The center block is a big open common area with little ponds, trees, lots of benches. On weekends vendors come and setup bazaars. Around the common area are high rise office buildings. Generally the first three floors are restaurants, shops, department stores, convenience stores, fast food places. etc. The top 20+ floors are businesses. The outer ring of buildings consists of condominiums and hotels. They bring in bands and performers on Friday evenings. The fountains in tn the pools are programmed to wave in time to music. There are no roads inside the campus - it is all foot traffic.

You can live, work, shop, go to entertainment - do everything in one campus. But I miss moving around. I also don't enjoy city living. So I'll be glad when it is done.

My hotel room looks over the river - see northeast or upper right portion of the map in the first link above. Manila is entirely unplanned. Stuff grows up whenever there is an opportunity. Directly across the river is a shantly town. If you expand the map you can see it pretty clearly. Most of the houses are concrete block squares with a corrugated tin roof. The houses are built very close together - maybe a cat could squeeze between buildings but a big dog wouldn't fit. The streets are narrow - small alleys are maybe 4 feet wide and bigger streets might be 8 feet wide - and the roofs hang over them. The sounds of dozens of rooster wake me up every morning. Sort of like medieval London. There is an improvised playground with a basketball hoop down by the river. I watch the children play there and along the river banks. This morning (Sunday) about mid morning it was apparent that everyone finished church and were out walking around - a Sunday morning paseo. I'll check again tonight to see if the same thing happens.

Good runs, PT. Does the TM have a view of outside? How long will you be in Manila?

Yoga for me this morning. No running today. I'm going back to Sunday as a Rest Day.

Running 14 days in a row didn't work out so well for me and I had to take 2 days off to recover.

This coming week, I'll resume my usual running routine and see how my left arch holds up. The knot is still there although quite tiny now. My massage therapist (who I finally got to see last week) thinks I should massage it or roll it on a tennis ball, but I'm not brave enough to try that. I'm afraid that might cause it to get inflamed again.

A light massage on the tennis ball might be good HappyFeat. Not too hard until you have tried and see how it works out.

PT - sounds like you're beginning to write a novel. Please send the next page!

I take Sundays off all the time now HappyFeat.

And I'm stretching like a fool. :)

Hi all

great trail run TW, just you and the stately geese.

Sure thing Tamster...if I'm around....trying to fit in my annual 2 weeks in the desert with work deadlines and some other things I've got going on. Planned on leaving the 18th, but now it doesn't look like it. Probably should wait until March anyway so I can see a spring training game or two in Phoenix.

7 hilly miles in town, longest in a while, no IT band issues. Still using the custom orthotics and neutral shoes. Maybe I just needed to rant and rave about it.

Excellent TW! Your enthusiasm is contagious.

Routine stretching is a really good idea KS; glad you are trying to fit it in. I think it makes the muscles more resilient and willing to work.

So Johnny, your hip pain is gone with no modification of the orthotics, just choice of shoes?

No HappyFeat, ....too early to say anything about being pain free, just mentioning I was pain free today, that's all. Haven't had a chance to see podiatrist yet. I'm still running in the setup podiatrist prescribed, i.e., neutral shoes & custom orthotics. Used to run in stability shoes and OTC orthotics.

Nice runs TW, Johnny, and PT

My party is over as I am back in snowy Ohio now. Vacation was a bust for racing but I got some outside running in with near record high temps a couple days in Florida getting up in the low 80s. The stomach bug knocked me out of my race last weekend and by the time I got rid of it in the middle of the week, I didn't want to try to another race this weekend.

Today I couldn't fit an outside run in if I watched a ballgame and made it home this evening so I was on the treadmill in Northern Kentucky running 16 miles while watching the ballgame. Ended the month with 140.2 miles in 9 days of running.
