10.24 miles this morning in 1:35:32 (9:19 pace). Even though I headed out just after sunrise, it was getting HOT toward the end of the run, and I was glad to stumble through my front door into air conditioned coolness!

10 miles will be about the longest mileage I'm going to attempt during this intense bootcamp/resistance training program I've been doing. I don't feel like I have longer mileage in me, and I'm also not sure that it would be productive.

Morning Robin - nice 10. When not training for anything, I always think keeping a 10 miler in the plan is good LR.

Bill - nice 20 yesterday. I don't know how you do it in that Florida weather!!!

10 for me too this morning sans watch. Very slow, easy pace although I think my left side is falling apart . . . However, my right side has never felt better

Enjoy your Sunday! My kids start school tomorrow . . . sad to see summer end for them!

Good morning everyone! It's lovely to hear from Robin. How's your new house?

DH and I took a good spin class this morning and I had very tired legs from my run & yoga sessions yesterday. But it was a lot of fun and now we're pleasantly recuperating.

It's a hot sunny day here with lower humidity and I'm going to have to water our flower beds when the sun drops.

I got a very happy email from a cousin this morning. He & his wife have been trying to get pregnant and it finally worked! We're all so excited for them.

Enjoy your day,

Excellent, excellent news, TW! I think the key really is not caring how you look, or if what you're doing is "the norm", and just do what feels right for you. Rock on!

I haven't run yet, but I'll be heading out soon. I don't think I ever posted yesterday.... the weather was so nice, so I ended up running twice. 3.75 miles on my own, then another 3 miles with my running partner a couple hours later. Today she wants to do a longer run, so we'll see what happens with that.

Nice to hear from you, Robin! Pink, I know how that is, about one side not being in balance with the other. Forever it was my right side bothering me, now it's my left. So for me, that's balance.

Enjoy the day, all!

Hi Susan, TW, Robin, OM and Pink!!!

That's great news TW! Glad the mat is working for you, too!

2.5 miles of slow recovery in the heat this morning. A neighbour I'd never met caught up with me, and chatted a few minutes before taking off at a much faster pace than I wanted. He's the caretaker for the conservation area down the road where many of my favourite trails are. Talk about having a fantastic backyard to play in!!!

Am looking forward to hearing this weekend's race reports!

Stay cool everyone!

Always great to hear from Robin. Ten miles as you get back into it is a heck of a good run.

TW, as you always say, it's about the persistence. Good job.

I had a bit of a breakthrough today. My two previous LR's were okay, but it was tough at the finish. Today I felt like I could go forever. I did 21 at 9:45 pace, but my last 3 miles were 9:13, 9:12 and 8:50, so I felt pretty good about that. Spareribs

nice job tw.

13.5 ez 9min pace... although it was hilly (garmin says +/- 1500ft) so maybe slow is a better description. it was in and around my neighborhood with a group who normally runs 20min drive from my house, so that was a nice change of pace. had everyone over to my place afterwards for some breakfast and a dip in the pool... was nice, except for the flying ant swarm that bugged us. flying ants were out all over town this morning as it was a warm morning and we had lots of rain yesterday. only swallowed one.

hit 60 miles this week... first time this summer, finally.

Hey all!

TW - nice!

as far as my run went today.. Holy Crap! I think I have the 5K on my brain in two weeks.. ran faster than I meant to this morning, I didn't mean to I swear! :D I have NO idea where mile 2 came from... I'm just saying.. 5 miles run - 10:54 avg mm

mile 1 - 11:04

mile 2 - 9:16

mile 3 - 10:59

mile 4 - 11:31

mile 5 - 11:40

Yep had to slow way down, to more the easy pace to make it to 5!

Johnny - uhhh so really, I don't mean to. It must have been back there in the subconcious :D so the time at 3.1 was about 40 seconds more than that PR we talked about...... it will be interesting to see what happens in 2 weeks.

Ran from home to my running partner's house: 1.3 miles

Ran a loop in the park and back to her house: 6 miles

Ran back through the park, then up the hill to home: 4.2 miles

I think that adds up to 11.5 miles. I'll take it.

tomwhite....nice to have you out of the cave....good running.

OM...you're really raking up the miles lately (I have balance too....right side hip, IT band, compartment syndrome...left side hamstring, calf, achilles)

I think you'll surprise yourself at the 5K in 2 weeks rinda, congrats on another successful run

12+ miles in the woods, a little faster than I would of liked. Saw an article by McMillan (sp) in RW a few issues back, about how to go from "fitness level" to race shape in 4 weeks. It was aimed at the marathon, you wouldn't PR, but you'd finish without injury. Since I'm just trying to finish 60K, I modified this with back to back long runs. Seems to be working so far, knock on wood.

I have been away visiting my mother, she doesn't see my daughter that often so I thought we should make an effort, had a lovely few days in Wales so lots to catch up on.

Checked into the VRAA first as I had my points to add and it looks like it stopped being friendly while I was away. Sadly I am going to stop taking part in it as it seems "Smack talk" upsets people and my daily points are being questioned.

So back to training, I actually took a rest day last Thursday and my last few days have seen some relaxed training and racing including a 29 minute 10km with my 9 year old daughter. A little off her best but now that her mum has moved away she does very little sport.

Spent today supporting MrsG and a friend of ours at a triathlon. What can I say about MrsG 3rd lady including a low 20 minute 5km off the bike. Not bad with for a girl who isnt quite training or feeling right. Should she be racing? Probably not but she had got so frustrated that she just needed a blow out, the next few days will be interesting indeed. Our friend was doing her first triathlon so I was there as coach mentor etc..... Went well with a solid swim/bike/run and she has the bug big style.

Great to see some brilliant running in here and sorry to hear about your continuing issues Tom, had a quick glance at your thread.

Oh and BLIMEY ROO, 9.16 in the middle of your 5 miler BY ACCIDENT !!!!!!!!!

Spareribs, the toughest training conditions are probably behind you and you are sailing into the fall season. Very pleased for you. Good on you for grandma's sake in Wales, Gobi. And now some more TLC for Mrs. G and congrats to her! So many good things to comment on and so little time. After a lunch that was way too big, I'm off to do recycling and then to the Y for a short, easy treadmill run. Oh, I almost forgot. Holy crap, Rinda!

After a replenishing serving of bacon this morning, and hour and half nap, I'm recovered enough from H2C to turn on a computer. Here's the recap:

Friday evening - 0.5 mile w/u at 7:28/mi followed by 4.5 miles at 6:30/mi. About 20 seconds per mile faster than predicted by my 42 minute 10K time. It's been a while since I ran fast and it felt good!

Saturday (am) - 5.75 miles, with 5 miles uphill at a 4% grade, at 3:00 am in dirt road dust so thick my headlamp light didn't always reach the ground. 8:02/mi. Followed by a 6:30 am timing clipboard run of 0.75 miles due to a very long van backup into the van exchange. 8:56/mi.

Saturday (pm) - 4.15 mile run over undulating hills at 6:48/mi at 12:15 pm. Followed by a 3.5 mile cool down run on the next leg with Dove at 9:08/mi. Followed by another timing clipboard run of 1.5 miles into the finish at Seaside. 9:10/mi

So 20.15 miles for the weekend, and I'm pooped! But I think it's time to come out of race retirement.

And there was an Econo sighting:

ahhh Wonderful Lab!!! Isn't Econo such a cutie there? I'm sure she's up to something devious though.

Nice run Linda!! I'm so anxious to see how you do in the upcoming 5K!

David would be starting school tomorrow, but around mid June they re-arranged the school schedule to give them an extra week of summer break but then they go a bit longer into next June. So, he has just one more week left. He's anxious, I'm anxious. It'll be nice to be back to a regular routine with school.

Ran 7 this morning. Nice to cool out all day. Quite UnAugust weather we are having right now, but I'll take a couple of unseasonably cool weather days - just so long as this is NOT the switch to fall!

I'll be heading back to Newport in about 3 wks for a CLE . . .and staying at the same condo's the Newport crowd gathered at. I can't wait. I'll have plenty of extra time to spend there outside of the CLE as well, so will get in some running and check out a new restaurant while I'm there also. I think Lab once recommended Noodle Cafe and that sounds right up my alley.

Thanks for asking,

It was touch and go when I first started back.

But each run brings a little more confidence that its behind me.

I've even pushed the pace here and there, but I'm holding off on longer stuff, 10-14 for at least a week or two

I've been focused on keeping my chin up while I run using a distant focal point as an aid and keeping my shoulders relaxed.

Seems to keep my mind from wandering and improves my pace.
