Dawne, you will want to do this from your porch.

When it is this cold (how cold do you say?), or about 25 below Fahrenheit, boil some water and pour some into a measuring cup. Go outside away from the heat of the building and quickly toss it into the air.

The water disappears into a cloud of mist. All of it.

I must add this from our Windchill Warning.

I blame the weather on the Americans.

A disturbance tracking across the Northern United States is currently bringing cloud cover and some light snow to southern portions of the grainbelt. Wind chill values in these areas are not expect to plummet below the warning level of -40 until skies clear. This is expected to occur over southwestern areas overnight and over southeastern areas Wednesday morning. Wind chill values of -40 to -45 are expected in these areas Wednesday morning.

That's in our Northwest Territories. I believe that at the time the temps then were in the -40s. Saw this on TV last year.

Oh and I forgot about this last sentence in the Warming.

At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.
I saw a few last year that were in Minnesota/Wisconsin and Maine/Vermont/NH type areas.

It was so nice to come home to my toasty warm apartment. It has warmed up to -26 with a -39 windchill at the moment. I live in a new area of town with no trees or real housing/shelter around so just the walk from the car was bitter, windy, windy, windy.

I do sort of feel that it is old hat now though. -46 this morning didn't faze me too much, just happy when the car starts and the doors close. Though I didn't have enough layers on my legs, that was for sure.
