This morning I was determined to make it to the end of the Minuteman Bike path. I haven't seen the end of the bikepath since the last time I skated the full length of it, back in 2003. My running never took me far enough to make the route when I lived in Cambridge, but now that I moved to Arlington, it was just within reach.

I figured that it would be about 13 miles, and I just took it nice and steady, enjoying the lovely fall morning. I reached the end and was surprised to discover that they have created the Bedford Depot Park there, with a lovely restored train car and historical center. Of course, it wasn't open because I was there so early, but it was nice to see how that terminus of the bike path had changed!

I headed back home, feeling greta...and then at mile 8.6 I tripped on a hugh tree branch that suddenly threw itself in my path. Remember how I mentioned my hike yesterday with all of the falling branches in the high wind? Well, there were plenty scattered on the path today, and in my absentmindedness, I tripped on one.

I really went flying! I seem to have absorbed all of the impact on my left elbow, where I ripped up 2 layers of tech fabric. I did have the wherewithal to reach forward and click off my Garmin while I was still lying prone on the ground. Gawd forbid I mess up recording my splits.

I hauled myself up and out of the path and inspected my bloody elbow and shed a few tears. Eh, nothing left to be done but to run home and get some ice on it. Turns out that I had misjudged, and the distance was actually 14 miles. The aching dulled after a few miles, and I'm back at home with some ice on the elbow.

14.05 miles in 2:08:18 (9:08 pace)
