I twisted my foot yesterday at Umstead at mile 12 of my 21 miler. This is my first 21 after 1 1/2 month off recovering from a bad hip injury. After the twist, I didn't feel anything and kept going. When I got home, the lateral part of my foot hurt when I took my shoes off and I thought I had a fracture.
This morning my sports doc saw me and said it looks like it but since it's brand new the X-Ray and MRI won't show til probably next week. The x-ray gives a hint of stress tho.
I'm in a boot til the follow up visit, a week from now.
He said the fact I caught it immediately puts me in a better spot.

Anyone with similar experience who had a fast recovery in 5 weeks? I have MCM waiting.

hmmmm. you could run in the pool i guess. I had a stress fracture in my 5th metatarsal several years ago and i was on crutches for 6 weeks.

I have the boot on but it still hurts. I think I need to call them. I have a feeling that I need crutches... I'd love to be hopeful, but I think my 2 next marathons (MCM and Richmond) just went down the drain...
6 weeks will take me down... the doc still says that I might be able to recover on time... not to train, but maybe run the M for the heck of it.

I was in A LOT of pain for at least the first several days. I did not have a cast, but did wear a boot, it was hard plastic and came up to my knee. Unless you run regularly thru this time in the pool to maintain your fitness, i would err on the side of caution and not run the marathons.

I really want to try hard not to defer MCM. The pool is only literally 2 minutes away, so I can do it regularly. I still don't feel the water running will keep my fitness, but for now it will have to do until I go back next week.
Such a huge bummer... I had just resumed running and was absolutely loving Umstead on my LSDs...
