I'm not running it
Looks like he should have a great weekend for it, though.
Stinson is a great spot, and the trails in and around the area are first class.

Where's the big fella staying? Maybe we can find him a good spot for some chow. (If I were closer I'd go out and crew for him)

How'd the big fella do, Rosie?

My daughter called me yesterday and mentioned that she and friends had been up at Stinson earlier. I asked her if she saw Mr RCG .....

Just got off the phone with Dave Horning, r.d. of the marathon. He said, "How's your husband doing?"

Wow! What a dedicated R.D!

Oh. You want to know if every significant other got a personal phone call from the r.d.?

No. Only the ones whose husband ended up in the hospital after the run. Yep. The big fella crossed the finish line in over 5 hours (remember his 3:35 two weeks ago?)

He wandered all alone over to the med tent to inform them that he felt a little light-headed.

Next thing ya know he is in ambulance on his way to a hospital. Apparently it is pretty remote and the med team didn't want to start something they couldn't finish. Their protocol is to get guys like Ralph to a hospital with the proper cardiac support, etc.

So Ralph had a couple liters of IV's and the proper cardiac assessments and the proper labs drawn.

He was released from the hospital last night and spent the night in a nearby hotel. Doc wanted him to come back and get his labs repeated (I think his liver enzymes were whacky)

I just talked to him on the phone and he was cleared to travel. He is on his way to Reno to catch a flight home.

Henry, I wish you could have crewed for him. It would have been cool for him to ride to the hospital in a brown truck instead of an ambulance!

Thanks for thinking of him.
Hope your daughter had a better time at Stinson...

Good golly, sister!! That's crazy. I'm glad that he is on his way home.
I don't imagine that Stinson is the easiest course. Did he say that perhaps he pushed it too hard early?

As for the remoteness of Stinson, I have a story. Mrs hup and I were on a short holiday up the coast from Stinson, at Pt Reyes. It's wonderful country, and you'd never know that you were just an hour's drive from SF. We were planning to meet our daughter in SF one day, but couldn't get a hold of her because there is no cell service there. (nor could we find an operational pay phone) We saw a ranger and asked him about it and he told us that the only place that cells worked was up the Fairfax/Olema Rd about 2 miles. He said that we couldn't miss the spot, that there would be a bunch of people pulled off the road talking on phones We drove up the road, and pulled off at several of the wide spots we came to to no avail. (we didn't come across anyone talking on the phone) We saw another ranger and approached her to see if we were close to "the spot". She said we had just passed hit. Her exact words were, "go back past the rise, then pull over next to the first blackberry bush ... but you need to get there before the fog rolls in, which will be in about 10 minutes". Sure enough, we parked next to the first blackberry bush and completed the connection with DD

So yes, this area is remote

It's good to hear that our man is OK. I hope that this won't sour you on our state

Me? Sour against a state? No way! It's not CallyForKneeYa's fault that my husband is a lunatic!

I think he is a bit embarrassed so, I haven't heard the story of the race itself... just what happened after he crossed the finish line.

As for an update (and thanks for asking all y'all)... he just called from Reno and his plane departs in one hour. A short stop in Vegas and then onto Norfolk.

What a wild ride!

p.s. I love the cell phone story! Reminds me of how my friend and I used to measure our running route... (we took turns running and watching kids, I would run and she would watch our kids (6 total, 3 a piece) and then she would run and I would watch kids... She asked me, "Where did you turn around?" To which I replied, "I turned around at the dead snake." This worked well until they re-cindered the road... from then on it was "...run to where the dead snake used to be."

Hey Kickrunners!
Thanks for your concern for Ralph.
He got the best care out there in California. Not only did the race director call to check on him (Thanks Dave Horning!) but, two different doctors called to follow-up and give him the results of his blood tests. His cardiac markers were always fine, they were concerned about liver/kidney function (not sure which or both) but I think he is fine now and will see his primary care physician in December.

Here is a link to three photos... first two: excellent... third one: you can tell he is on his way out...

http://www.brightroom.com/view_user_...hotos&BIB=6806
