Well, after 3 physio visits, I can say that there is some small improvement. She's encouraged me to look at new orthotics. I've got an appointment for this aft. I don't think it's that, but it could have been waiting a bit too long for new shoes coupled with running on a dreadmill for speed work in the winter months.

My neighbour (a very big ma, 6'8" who was a runner and is now a biker had a similar complaint that his physio fixed after ONE visit. Unfortunately this guy is away this week, so I have a visit with him for next week.

Acupuncture, IMS, ice, Vitamin I, core exercises, etc...

Not holding out much hope for more than just a complete in this marathon.

I am getting recasted for orthotics soon. that reminds me to call I had mine about a year and a half. Recently had them refurbished. I was told that with all the running i do it is a good idea overall. I also change my shoes VERY frequently. Seems to help the bod. And cross training 2 x a week.

Inflamed S-I joint.

Glute min and media and some around the front of the leg are sore due to having to pick up some slack (?)

All due to an imbalance.

Went to see the man who made my orthotics (6 years ago!!!) and while they're old they're still doing the trick - I'm "neutral" which is a good thing.

He did pinpoint the cause of my imbalance though. My calf muscles.

He took my foot and with it relaxed tried to push it back towards my body. Couldn't do it past 90% without forcing it. And yet I'm able to stretch it - good thing.

He explained how I need that flexibility or imbalances would result and now I understand... and have been given mega homework.

He's an athlete and says that we "have lots of time" to get me to the marathon. BQ is probably out, but hey... you can get that next time.

I like these confidence boosters. Now if I could only get rid of the pain we'll be set.

Physio concurs with orthotics guy. I have exercises to do, and the improvement has been noted. I only have to visit once next week.

Got the okay to push it up to 10k or more tomorrow, back off on Saturday and then try for 8-9 on Sunday. If that works, well... Advil conceals a world of hurt.

Looks like I might be okay for Vancouver.

I still have discomfort, and that's worrisome, but I have 3 weeks.

Took the opportunity of my Physio being on vacation to book a time with a physio suggested to me by my neighbour. The neighbour had had similar problems and this Physio - an Aussie - had fixed him in one visit.

Skeptical, I thought I'd give it a try.

Well, I'm a heck of a lot more optimistic after leaving him. The guy is thorough. A series of tests and then he explained what he was going to do. A manipulation, a few stretches and I feel great. I mean, great great.

Picture an Aussie accent "Don't want to say anything against your other Physio, mate, but I'm a tad heavier and a bit brawnier than she is..."

I see him again on Friday, but he thinks that my ability to run 5 miles at better than MP today is a great sign.

Not only do I have a physiotherapist, I have a sports psychologist and coach...

He was all booked for today, but when I told the receptionist that he'd told me to book for today I could hear her conversing with him. "I've got room after the last patient..."

She said "Gee, you must either be an athlete or a dancer, he doesn't do that for just anyone."

So I saw him, and he worked me over and then sat me down.

"Mate, I've run 7 marathons. I know what's going through your head. Here's what you're gonna do this weekend. Tomorrow, light running. Two light, two faster, two light. Then Sunday? 17 miles. LSD. Slow, mate."

"Monday, e-mail me. We'll chat."

"Your mechanics are fine. I think we've gotten the inflammation under control, now we've got to get what's in between your ears under control."

"You have a great base. You missed 10 days. Who cares? Let's see what this weekend does. You survive it, then we're going to work a plan to get you your BQ."

"I think what you're going to have to do next week, if everything is okay, is to do some repeats at MP 12, 13, whatever, to get your body back into knowing what it is. After that... we'll talk."

"There's no sense in running the first 5 miles of your marathon at a slow pace and then deciding you can do it. You're not going to pull of negative splits. Go out steady and if you can't you can't. But you don't want to finish with "what ifs". If you can make it through this weekend, we're going to see you make it through May 6th."

Aye aye captain SIR!

I like this guy.

All. Clear.

Whatever aches and pains I have are all normal and a result of the inflammation ending and other muscles no longer having to work twice as hard.

He's told me to go out and have a blast.

It's strange, but that deep adductor/groin problem I've experienced for the last year or so has gone away since I came back to Timmins. If it's environmentally linked I can only assume it's due to the hills at the mine.
