I'm training this week. The class is put on by a state goverment (not Ohio) and the classroom is full of state employees. The class is held in a state building adjacent to the state capital building.

Here are my observations:

1. 3rd shifter security sleeping at 7am. Didnt open up building till his relief showed up at 7:30.

2. Class begins at 8. Half of class showed up at 8:10 - 8:15.

3. Class official end time at 4. Class really dismisses at 3.

4. Lunches - 1 hour, 20 minutes.

5. 20 minute morning and 20 minute afternoon breaks.

If I would do this at work, my company would terminate my employment. I'm just a bit surprised this goes on.

When I worked for the Province that was pretty standard - although we'd typically end at 3:30 - 4. Realistically, you don't get much out of people at that time of the day. Plus lots of people are leaving early from courses to make the travel connections.

Someone with that perspective would be unemployed where I work. But anyhow, I'm just amazed at the disconnect of the state employees in this building, the economy we are suffering through, and their work ethics in front of the taxpayers of this state. If some of these people are putting in 3 hours of work, I'd be surprised.

I agree.. I used to train and no matter how good I did or how motivated, everyone starts to fall off at the end of the day. Often times, they went back to work to catch-up, but not always. Also, it depends on the training.. If you are smart you overbook time, i.e. a 6 hr course has 8hrs allocated, because it includes travel or break time, etc. old saying.. The brain can only absorb as long as the butt can endure. I'm not saying you are wrong, but it's not really that black and white. I'm also not saying this happens everywhere.
