A bit of a subpar mileage week for me due to 2 missed days. I had to get a wisdom tooth pulled and the after effects of that procedure knocked me to the sidelines Wednesday and Thursday of last week. But I recovered well and had a good 15 miler on Saturday. 33 miles total for the week.

Week in Review:

* normally I start my weeks on Monday but since I raced Sunday 3/6 I'll start it there

Su 3/6 - Burke Lake 12k - raining, muddy, 50:58, 8th place OA, 3rd in AG (capped off 45 mile week)

M 3/7 - rest

Tu 3/8 - 7.5 mile progression run, then core session

W 3/9 & Th 3/10 - unplanned rest, recuperating from dental procedure

Fr 3/11 - 7.5 easy + core session

Sa 3/12 - 15.2 miles long run, including 12 x 2 fartlek intervals @ 5k-10k pace

Su 3/13 - soccer in AM (~30 minutes), 5k shakeout jog in late afternoon

I've got a couple of peak weeks then it's time for a one-week taper to Cherry Blossom on 4/3.

How is everyone's training going? I guess we fell off on reporting a bit. Hopefully, spring racing season has started and we are all making progress.

I am hovering right around the 55 mpw mark. I did a very hilly 10K last weekend and it went better than expected given I had been feeling sluggish and slow for a couple of weeks. I just missed an AG award though, coming in 4th for the 30-39 division! I am hoping to make up for it next weekend with another (less brutally hilly) 10K.

I am now 6.5 weeks from my goal race and trying to get in as much quality as possible.

Hawk - you are up next for a key race and Boston is just around the corner.

I'm doing ok... hovering in the 40 MPW area. Missed an important speed workout yesterday, but had a good trail race last weekend. 1st half is next Saturday the 26th... that will be the real gauge!

Hey all,

I used to hang out in this thread. Don't know what happened.

Oh well, I'm training for a spring goal marathon too. My brother and I will be running together at Flying Pig on May 1. Looking to run between 3:10 and 3:15. Hopefully closer to 3:10.

I'm racing the Oak Mountain 50K in the morning. My training has been going well, getting in just about 60 miles per week. Hopefully tomorrows race won't tear me up too bad. I have 4 70ish mile weeks to bust out before tapering for Flying Pig.

Gotta get my stuff together and get some sleep.

Later.

Hey all, sorry I haven't been here much lately. I've been buried with work and travel. And, oh yeah, running.

Yes, I did win a race -- actually two! Three weeks ago I ran a small trail marathon (15 people) as a training run, and happened to win it in 3:30. Two weeks ago I ran a 0:32 half PR, 1:26:03. That's my first PR since Boston '09, and I feel really good about it. However -- afterwards my left knee was wonky (more on that below).

Last weekend I ran a local half as part of 20 w/ 14 @ MP, and somehow I won that one (1:28:52)! This was still a small race, but at 90 people, I think it's the biggest race I've won, and I wasn't even racing. (I think all the fast guys were at the road half across town.)

But. The knee issue has not gone away. I've been shaving miles, skipping recoveries, and it's not helping. I saw the PT the other day, and she saw nothing really wrong. So I ran the 14 I'd put off from the previous day. The next day the knee was just as bad as ever. So I've now skipped two days in a row. Probably going to try an easy 4 today.

But it looks like I may be in early taper mode at this point. My 70-80 mpw weeks are likely over. I'll try to build back carefully, and hopefully get in some more speedwork and long runs, but I may be done with the tune-up races. Crossing my fingers that I've got enough in the bank for that sub-3 at Boston.

Tim - how'd the 50K go?

Bob - congrats on the 2 wins and a PR! Very impressive. I hope that knee cooperates. If you can get to the start line with a healthy knee, you should be fine with all of the quality training you have done. That 1:26 half is a nice indicator as well.
