Kind of crazy week. Took a long weekend and joined a fun FA run this past Saturday. It's now 15 weeks to Boston and I'll start looking at scheduling some phased quality. I think its going to start with some Benji Durden-style hill repeats for a few weeks.

Thanks Tim for organizing this thread. My week past:

Su- 5 E; cooled down with 6x strides
M- 10.5 E
Tu- 8 E; ran the 7th mile as a pickup in 5:56
W- 5.5 E
Th- off
F- 3.5 E, with 4x strides
Sa- 32 miles on easy going trails in 4:52. I took it real easy and ran/walked with others during a low-key FA in Delaware.

64.5 total

Good week again last week. I didn't get in a long run on Sunday, I "raced" a 5k...not too pretty, but oh, well. The weather was nice midweek, so those runs were awesome.

Monday: 6am 2pm
Tuesday: 11 Tempo
Wednesday: 15
Thursday: 6am 2pm
Friday: 12
Saturday: 6
Sunday: 7 (2 warm up, 5k, 2 cool down)

Total: 67

My left knee is still hurting a little, I think it's the shoes. I just ordered a pair with a little less cushioning, they should be here in a couple of days. I've started using my blog to track my training thoughts, if you feel like some amusing reading, check it out. I'll try to make the site a little more interesting this week but I'm certainly going to write in it at least a few times a week. I think it'll help me track how I'm feeling better than just my running log.

Good week everyone!!

Following Flounder's footsteps ... reposting here (with some minor edits)

Feeling a little tired/slow at the end of the week.

M - 3 E
T - 8 T (2x2mi w/ 0.5 recovery; 2 w/u, 1.5 c/d)
W - 9 (supposed to be ML for 10; but icy, cold, & dark + missed the turn)
Th - 7 E
F - 8 E (w/ 9x~150m strides)
Sa -14 L
Su - 7 E (got to wear shorts! yay!)

This coming week is last week of base before starting Pfitz 18/70 for the Cleveland Marathon. Haven't registered yet, but I am fully committed now (what with the VRAA keeping me on task getting the miles in. Though not nearly to the same extent as Flounder - HOLY MOLY - You are a machine = 100+ points/day!?! )

Yeah, shoes can do that to you. Around this time a year ago, I switched off Asics (GT20xx) series and went to the Brooks Radius. I really liked them and used the Brooks instead of my Asics for my first marathon and all other marathons since then. I of course moved up to the Radius 7 when they came out. Now, they are discontinuing them. I picked up the last pair of R7s from the homewood store, and I have a pair in my size on hold at the inverness store. So, those two new pair should get me through to mid year. After that it's time to search for another new shoe. I guess it will be between the Brooks replacement, the Asics Nimbus and the Nike Pegasis.

Yeah, it's weird. I loved the Trances, then I got a pair of Saucony Fast Twitch Endurances for racing/speedwork. Now when I go back to the Trances they seem too heavy and mushy AND my knee hurts! I ordered a pair of Brooks Adrenalines, so I hope they work. They look like they'll have enough support without all the cushioning and weight. Also, it would be nice if I could stay in a cheaper shoe...the Trances are so expensive and I like to change shoes every 300 miles or so. That comes up quickly with this kind of mileage.

ok, I guess I posted this in the wrong thread at first. Just to clarify: this is for the week I just ran, not the week I will run.

M: 6.51mi (9:13)
T: 7.11mi incl 8x[1min@5k pace, 2min jog]
W: 4.91mi (9:11)
R: 8.5mi (7:51) incl miles 3-5 6:59/7:06/7:06, 4x[150m hills@6:30
pace]
F: 4.86mi (9:16)
Sa: 7mi (8:35)
Su: 13mi (7:49)

between 5-20min strength conditioning each day

total: 51.9 miles aaargh I can't believe that mileage

JenRuns - yeah, I like to switch shoes every 300 - 350 miles too. So, I try to stay in the next to the top of the line models. I can swing $85 per pair, but $100+ is a little steap.

joplus - that's a great looking week

runninirish - welcome to the group. Good luck with trying to break 3:00. One of my training partners is trying to do the same, and I think his next shot is actually at Boston. I will add you to the group at the top.

i've trained a lot between the nimbus and pegasus. i have to say that i feel like the pegasus isn't built as sturdy as the nimbus is.. less cushioning than i prefer. i know each runner is different in terms of preference but i thought i'd throw that out

Oops, I guess I posted last weeks mileage in the wrong thread

Anyhoo, week 3 is in the books and it went like this:

M - cross training
T - 10
W - 5
Th - 8 (4 miles at tempo pace)
F - rest
S - 14.2
Su - 5

It was a good week and I feel like I finally got my shoe issues figured out.
I have been running in the Asics Cumulus until they changed it. The new one is too wide in the regular and too narrow in the narrow After trying a few others, I have found the Asics Landreth 4 to feel just like the old Cumulus - a nice, not too heavy neutral shoe. Just thought I'd throw that out there if anyone else is having similar problems. I hate when the shoes get changed like that..... Of course they are more $$$ than the Cumulus and I too only get 300 - 350 miles out of a pair.

If we were all the same we would be one heck of a boring group. Variety is the spice of a good thread and a good group. Don't worry about others - We are all trying to follow our own plan(What ever it may be) and need encouragement and support along the way.

Tim - add me to the bit at the top please.

Race: Grandma's Marathon 6/21
Training Plan: Daniels' Plan A - peak mileage should be in the 50-55 range

the plan is 24 weeks in length, with the first 6 being base building, and I'm trying to steadily get my miles up. Ran 28 last week and the schedule for this week is:

Monday - 5
Tuesday - off
Wednesday - 6
Thursday - 5
Friday - 5
Saturday - 8
Sunday - 4
Total of 34

This will be my first marathon - three HM under my belt. Right now the goal for this race is to finish and hopefully be under 4:30.

This is my last planned not so structured week, a cut-back week in terms of mileage. I am very much looking forward to getting back to more "formal" marathon training next week and focusing on Boston and how I am going to tackle its hills.

Last week:

Monday: 4.25
Tuesday: jog/walked a 5K (in a dress) so I counted that as cross-training, really
Wednesday: 4
Thursday: Off
Friday: 3.5 with 4 strides at the end
Saturday: 50K (32 miles) done very easy just to finish and have fun
Sunday: Off

About 47 miles for the week and most were at an extremely easy pace.

Welcome KP, you're going to rock your first marathon.

I'm going to start a new thread in the morning and we can then post how things went this week and what your plan is for next week.

This week was a cut back/recovery week for me, and I ran a race yesterday.

Yep...I was hanging out in the running store yesterday waiting for the rain to stop and I had the guy go over the Brooks Radius thing with me with a 2008 Brooks catalog. Basically, they are going to replace the Radius with a new shoe called the Decypher (sp? That's not right, but it starts with a D) The new shoe is made by taking a Brooks Adrenaline and removing the medial post thus changing it from a Control shoe to a Nuetral shoe. I'll give one pair a go when they come out later this year.
