Here's how my last week ended up. A little light on mileage since I took 2 rest days instead of just one; that cut 10 miles from my schedule. But, I think it's OK for now.

Mon - 7.75 ez
Tues - rest (Christmas day)
Wed - 9 miles (w/ 4mi @ T pace)
Thurs - 13.1 ez
Fri - 5.5 ez
Sat - rest
Sun - 17 LR

Total miles: 52.4

Goal: sub3-BQ (3:20:59) depends on training progress...
Training: Pfitz/Daniels combination 24/75-ish kindof thing.....

Last week was a planned cutback week at 42 miles, but it included a 19:38 5k time trial.

Hi marathon trainers. After 12 days off of clear roads in one way or another, I am happy to be back outside this week.

Last week was something of a cut-back.

Mon 12/24: 6 miles on Fargo Y treadmill
12/25: 4ish slow slippery miles in snowy Fargo-Moorhead
12/26: 9.5 miles on Fargo Y treadmill
12/27: 4 miles on hotel treadmill
12/28: 4+ hours yoga. Rest day.
12/29: 3 hours advanced yoga. 6 tired miles on the hotel treadmill.
Sun 12/30: Rest and travel day. 3 hours yoga.

29.5 miles total.

This week is fairly easy leading up to Saturday's 50K attempt. I expect I'll recover a bit from that and then get back on the real marathon training program. I miss being in more of a regimen.

Timr1 -- thanks for getting this thread started and keeping track of us. I did update my race schedule and training information last week. Were you able to see it?

Good training to all!

Monday - 9.6 miles (Christmas Eve Group Run I'm going to logged as a ML run)
Tuesday - 7 miles with 5 Miles at or faster than Marathon Goal Pace
Wednesday - 10 miles ML on the TM
Thursday - 5 miles Easy
Friday - 4.5 miles Easy (on the TM)
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - 16 miles LR

I was a little off of Pfitz's plan again, but I did pretty much follow his format - two ML runs this week, on Long run, and a day with some effort (7 miles w/ 5 at MP).

ETA - 52.1 miles total for the week

I missing this the last couple of weeks...Tim thanks for keeping this going!

Goal: Boston 3:20
Training Plan: Pfitz 18/70+ (this is seeming a little daunting right now, I've done the 18/70 before, but I'm giving it a try)

Last week went pretty well, I was a little light on miles because of the holidays.

Monday: Easy 6
Tuesday: Easy 5
Wednesday: Med. Long 13
Thurday: Easy 6.5
Friday: Easy 11 (TM, mixing in some declines)
Saturday: Easy 6.5 (a little sore from the declines today)
Sunday: Long 18 (TM)

So, 66 for the week. This week is a little mixed up because there is a 5k on Sunday I want to do-don't know when the long run will be, maybe next Monday? I need to get used to trying to run fast again, I'm not sure how well it'll go but I'm ready to be humbled-5k's I find painful. I'm really feeling slow right now, too.

I'm questioning if the increase in miles is going to hurt my quality too much. If I can't keep a decent pace during my runs, I may scale back to the 18/70 plan.

JenRuns, how do you incorporate declines on the treadmill? I'll need to simulate hills somehow in preparation for Boston. Right now it's looking like a huge busy highway overpass which maybe isn't the safest idea.

DH built a platform that I put under the back of the TM. It's a little steep, so I can move up the incline to change things up. It works pretty well. I'm like you, there is no when I can easily work on hills, so this is the solution for now anyway.

Very cool. I imagine the gyms I belong to would frown at that, however.

I will probably brave the overpass and wear all safety orange or something.

Hi all and Happy New Year!

My week of 12/24-12/30:

M: 6mi @ 8:00
T: OFF
W: 10mi - 8 @ 6:40 +1mi wmup, 1mi cldwn
T: 50 mins (ICY) trails
F: 7mi @ 7:45
S: 13.1 mi in 1:29:58 (1st/last mile @ 7:30, rest at 6:45)
S: OFF

I wanted to get a feel for what the Goofy half would be like, hence the 13.1 on Saturday. It felt pretty comfortable and I still felt fresh the next day. So I am feeling fairly confident that I can dip a bit below 1:30 for the half and still run a decent marathon the next day, but we'll see... Less than two weeks to go now!

p.s. as for my training plan, I don't really have one -- just kind of making it up as I go. Probably not the best idea, but it has worked out ok for my last few marathons...

We don't have that problem here in Birmingham. Check out this elevation profile from my LR in my neighborhood this past sunday (17 miles):

I have 14 measurable inclines on my ez 5 mile route that does a loop around the hood!

Tim, I am totally jealous! You are probably in awesome shape from that. When I ran at my parents house in MN this summer, I thought the hills were going to kill me. I have certainly lost that art, for sure. When I was a kid, I never even really thought about the hills when I ran unless they were wicked steep. Now, even a small change, sets off all kinds of alarms...times have changed.

Yeah, I think it does pay large divedends when racing. For example in the Marine Corps Marathon, the first 7 miles or so are really rolling terrain. Amy (my fellow BTC memeber who was running with me) and I would litterly fly down the down hills. It was just like our training runs.

Birmingham hosts the Mercedes marathon in Feburary. It's got a reputation was one of the more difficult marathons due the hills. You have climb up and over Red Mtn twice to get out and back to downtown. My training group does a lot of training runs on the back side of the mtn on the actual marathon course. It's brutal. And it's double hard in August in the 100+ degree heat and humidity.

Here's the profile from one of those august runs. The massive uphill that you see is part of the race course.

Well, it looks like I'm becoming more committed to the Cleveland Marathon. My DH may be pacing it, so I guess I'll be there too.

This last week was still base - and a bit of a mileage jump for me (2 more to go before starting program)
M: 5 - Tempo
T: 7 - easy
W: 9 - ML
Th: 7 - easy
F: 6 - easy
Sa: 12.5 - LR
Su: 6 - recovery

Tim - That elevation profile looks frightening! ugh! (but then I'm a baby when it comes to hills).

Happy New Year & Happy Running
