Hey everyone! I see the 2010 marathon season is getting close to an end. Lots of strong performances - kudos!

After a nice break, I am setting my eyes on the next prize: Eugene Marathon on May 1.

Anyone else have spring plans yet?

Cool...Eugene OR, running capital of the USA! Great pick. (I'll be in Portland over the holidays, always love running out there).

I don't have a spring marathon planned. Right now I think I'm going to focus on nailing some good 10s and halves. I could still jump into the GW Birthday Marathon, my club's official marathon, in February, but if I did it would just be a glorified long run, certainly not a goal race...my real goal is to get new 10M and HM PRs.

I'm definitely planning on Chicago in the fall.

After a year and a half off real training, I'm ready for another goal race: Boston 2011. I'm building my mileage back up; Pfitzinger 70-85 (if I can handle it!) starts in just over a week.

One of these years I'd like to race Eugene. It's conceivable, I guess, I could push back my goal, and make Boston the last easy long run... but that just seems wrong somehow. I mean, it's Boston!

I'm looking at a 50km at the end of January and a 64km at the end of Febuary and if the 64km goes well the possibility of doing a 100km at the end of March.

2010 saw me run 5 marathons, 2 x 50kms and a 56km mainly as I was too lazy to do my long runs alone and just wanted to keep ticking over after injury in 2009. 2011 will hopefully see me start racing again with my eyes set on moving back out to 100km racing.

Hope everyone gets what they want from 2011

Sounds like we should start a general Spring Trainers thread since we have different goals. Hawk - I always say I am going to take a season to focus on the shorter stuff, but I have never been able to actually do it. What are your goals. If ya'll send me your goals, I will get a thread started next week.

I started training for Eugene, but this week got slammed by the flu, so it is a bit of a start-over week next week. Thankfully I still have a LONG time until May. :)

Happy Friday.

RIL -- No worries, plenty of time til May. Re: your question - my goals are still forming somewhat. But I think my ultimate spring goal will be getting my 10 mile PR down to 65 or below. Current is 66:28, done at the Army Ten Miler in 2009.

I really think 10 milers are my strongest race distance but it seems whenever I run one it's always to train for something else, like a marathon. I ended up only doing one race at that distance in 2010; that was in Columbia MD back in February, and I trained through it (ran 14 the day before) so no surprise that I ended up at 71:11. I think that day was very good Boston training - tempo run on tired legs - but I don't think it was a good indicator of how I can really run at my sweet spot distance.

Anyway -- I am in the lottery for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler (DC) on 4/3 and I also plan to do the Broad Street Run (Philly) on 5/8...as far as I know registration hasn't opened for that one yet. So if you want to put those down on the calendar for me, feel free. I may add onto it or amend it (say, if I don't get through the CB lottery) later!

And loopy - keep me posted on the GWB Marathon. As mentioned earlier I might just do it as a training run. But even if I don't run it I might work at it so I can get my club volunteer requirement squared away for the year. BTW if you race it, you'll be one of the elites...winner is usually in the 2:40s.
Tentatively, sub-3 at Boston! That was my goal in '09, and I made it; I'd like to PR, but it will be hard enough to get back into sub-3 shape. If that happens, maybe 2:55 for Chicago? I think I was still improving when I stopped training after Boston last time.

REV3's Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio.

IM Louisville was one of the last open in the IM series and I was not crazy about swimming in the Ohio River but after seeing Lake Erie on a rough day the river might have been the way to go. Flat bike course though at Cedar Point (hopefully the wind will lay down). If I can just make it to the run with some energy.

Might be down the river either way.................

I'm doing a 50k this weekend in northern Indiana. After that, who knows? May focus on shorter distance next year (15k - half marathon), or may try to run my first 100. Gotta see how the weekend goes first.

Good luck out there!

I'll toss my name in for Boston.

No goals right now, after 7 months of injury I have no idea of the intensity of training I'll be able to handle. Week one of training started on Sunday for me.

It would be nice to be able to keep up with bhearn, though!

Week 1 of Pfitzinger 18/70-85 in the books!

M: 5 recovery

Tu: 9 w/ 4 @ LT (6:49, 6:41, 6:40, 6:40)

W: 12

Th: 6 recovery

F: 10

Sa: 6 recovery

Su: 17

Total: 65

Highest mileage week since I ran three marathons in a week this spring, and highest training week since before Boston '09. So far, so good... though I do now have a bit of a right hip flexor twinge. Hopefully it will disappear quickly. If I still feel it tomorrow I'll skip tomorrow's recovery run.

@JenRuns -- is that 3:06 your qualifier? Then you'll likely be a corral ahead of me; the best I have in the qualifying period is 3:09:46.

Yep, I'll be right on the line of 3 or 4. Last year, that time was just inside of 3.

I guess this was week one of training. My gosh, do I have a lot of work to do to get back into the shape I was 7 months ago. I'm getting an ESI on my back next Monday, hopefully that will calm things down and lessen the leg pain/numbness.

M: 9 easy

T: 10 rolling hills on the 'mill

W: 10.5 w/ 8 x bridge repeats

T: 8 easy

F: 3.5 recovery paced

S: 3 mile w/up, 5k race (stupid hot and windy weather, slow time, but I won!), 4 miles cool-down. 10 total

S: 13 "long" hahaha

It'll be a while before I feel confident enough to attempt speed work. I think my endurance will be fine, it'll be interesting what kind of fitness and speed I can pull out of a strength type training cycle this go around.
