Last week was a cut back / recovery week. Unfortunately, Life kinda got in the way and caused me to cut back about 5 more miles than I wanted to. On the good side, things are feeling goog. I did a 10 mile race as a tempo run and felt good at 7:25 speed. Also, my legs aren't feeling that tired. So things seem to be progressing nicely. This week and next will be a challenge with a work trip/ski day and then flying to Disney on Saturday. I plan to run a good bit while at Disney but hope to do my LR for this week before we leave. That mean busting out 22 miles on a work day.

Last week:
Mon - ez 5
Tues - 3 Fartlek (rain cut the run short)
Wed - 7 ez
Thurs - rest
Fri - 5.25 ez
Sat - 10 mile race (am) 7 mi ez (PM)
Sun - 10 ez
Root Finder - dealing with sick twins (how old?!) while looking for houses = at least a 6 miler in my book

Tim - 22 miles before work would have me snoozing at my desk by 2:30. The 12 and 14 mile days on my schedule are a real challenge.

My week went pretty well:

M - Cross training (cycling) and weights
T - 10 miles (in shorts!!!!)
W - 6
Th - 8 w/10x100 M strides
F - rest
S - 15.5 miles. Good hilly run from my house to downtown. In this case, it literally is DOWNtown, as we realized on the way up through Little Italy (for the Clevelanders) all the way back home. Good run though!
Su - 5 miles on trails.

It's supposed to get pretty cold for this weekends long run - bleh, I've been spoiled by the decent weather.

You can add me for Boston, I guess. I haven't registered, but I'm training as if I will run it. Goal, I don't know, maybe 3:00 - 3:10. I'm using Pfitz 18/55 and maybe adding miles here and there.

PR is 3:08:50, so anything under that at Boston on 55 mpw seems unlikely, but I've started using orthotics that I'm told will make a substantial difference in my race times... well, we shall see. I won't really know until I get a couple of tune-up races under my belt. I have had some performance breakthroughs recently. Also my goal will depend on what I can get my weight down to. After running 4 marathons in October, somehow I've gained 10 pounds. Ugh.

I'm also thinking of running the ING Georgia Marathon, 3/30 as a training run, three weeks before Boston.

Last week was week 4 of the Pfitz plan, 43 miles (ran 16 instead of 15 yesterday). Felt pretty good all week. And in NH, I'm getting in plenty of hills!

I had a lot of days running in shorts this week, in NH in January(!), but I fear that is over. A big winter storm moved in overnight.

Bob

Yeah, me too. There isn't enough coffee in this building for me to pull that off. What I'll probably do is leave week a couple of hours early on Friday and do the 22 miles 3 PM - 6 PM.

WTG, Root, sick twins has got to be a really challenge. Looks like you're doing a good juggling act there.

Welcome bhearn. I'll get you added or edited to the list.

Good week everyone!

Last week was really good, with the exception of my darn left knee. It was fine all week, I didn't even think about it. Then, about 7 miles into my 19 miler on Sunday I thought it was all over...I could barely run. Of course, I had to keep going (out and back) and it basically went away after a few limpy miles. This thing is really weird and very annoying--right on the very medial edge of the kneecap. It'll be crazy tender, even to just touch, then bam...nothing.

I'm going to keep messing with different shoes and see if I can find something to fix it. It was pretty sore on my run this morning, but feels okay now. I'll do an easy 4 miler tonight with new shoes (...again) and see how that goes. I may end up needed to take a few days off, but I really think I can "fix" this with the right footwear, it doesn't feel like an overuse injury. We'll see after a couple of days.

Last Week:
Monday---6.25am, 4pm
Tuesday--11 Tempo
Wed.--14.1 ez
Thurs.--7.1 recovery
Friday--12.3 ez
Sat.---7.1 recovery
Sun.---19.5 Long

Total: 80 miles.

The race I was planning on Saturday and the quality runs this week are on hold until I see how my knee is...I'm sure I'll know more tomorrow.

I'm pretty much done with my mileage buildup and I have finally gotten over 70 for the first time ever. Nothing hurts more than I expected, and apart form some new shoe troubles (I hate it when they change your favorite shoe....), I'm feeling good!

M - 5.2 recovery - 8:30 - I love Mondays
Tu - 40 min tempo - 6:53 - 8 miles overall
W - 8 miles ez - 7:47 w 6xstrides
Th - 12 miles ez - 7:45
Fr - HM Pace run (4 miles at 6:35) - 9.2 miles overall
Sa - 11.2 ez - 7:59
Su - 20 miles with 8 at 7:12 (~MP)

73 overall - a new high for me.

Next 2 weeks are basically the same at low/mid 70's then it will be time for a much needed cutback week (mid 40s)

Happy Running - Alan

Last week I cut back after the 50K on 1/5. I had no soreness in my legs from the run, but did feel fatigued here and there. My week:

Monday 1/7 -- 3.5 easy, got to wear shorts in 60s!
Tuesday 1/8 -- 4.25 easy, it was warm again, taught yoga
Wednesday 1/9 -- taught spinning
Thursday 1/10 -- 5 easy, taught yoga
Friday 1/11 -- rest day, 1 hr 15 min yoga
Saturday 1/12 -- 10 with running buddies, felt fatigued and some lower shin pain from miles 7-8 that went away after a water break
Sunday 1/13 -- 6 easy, a bit of same shin pain in last .5 mile, pilates

Total: ~29 miles running

On the last few runs I've been experiencing a bit of non-localized shin aching. Sometimes it feels like dull tightness or pulling in the lower fibial area while running, and other times it's generalized achiness after a run (when driving or sitting). I'm being more vigilant with stretching and have started an icing/Advil regimen. The dreaded "I" word is not part of my vocabulary right now!!

Good training to everyone this week ahead.

Hi all! I'm back from my week at Disney. Was very happy with my Goofy results:

Half= 1:27:59 66th overall (8th age group)
Full= 3:08:02 67th overall (8th age group)
Unofficially 11th overall Goofy runner (13th including wheelchairs)

Full Details in the race reports forum.

I am trying to force myself to take two weeks completely off from running -- I have had some nagging knee pain on and off for months that resurfaced during the Goofy. However, it has only been three days and I am already itching to run again!

After my two week rest, I will see how I am feeling and decide if I am doing another Spring marathon and, if so, which one -- I am leaning towards doing Boston again, but not sure yet...

I started my first week of training, I forgot what it's like to be a slave to the schedule...it's been nice this winter to say "oh, I've got 60 mins today...let's run, tomorrow I'll go for 90 mins" Now it's, "ok, I've got to get this in today...when????" So far so good, here's my week:
Tuesday: 8
Wed: 11
Thursday: 5
Friday: 9
Sat: 5-7
Sunday: 15

It's gonna' be a COLD weekend..

Plodding along this week, most of my runs have been inside on the TM with all of the home buying stuff eating up mornings/evenings.

I had a great week last week though. Still in that base building phase, but 1 week down and only 23 to go!
