Are you talking like the ones in Europe? The non-vented (steam drying) ones?

Well, they wash well, are energy/water efficient, and spin out nicely. The drying...not so efficient. Not for bigger loads, heavier things especially. Takes forever. I just hang dry my clothes.

Not sure about the models in the states, though.

My sister hates hers. It's OK for the washing, but hers takes forever to dry. If you want to wash more than one load in a day, it takes a lot longer to get through everything because you have to wait for the dry cycle to finish before you can start washing the next set of clothes. She ends up hang drying her clothing outside if it's nice or paying for the coin dryers in her apt complex if it's not.

She does like it for cloth diapers but I get the sense that is not going to be your primary use.

Okay that's what I was wondering. I'm better off getting an apt size portable washer and hanging what I can.

I'm really just trying not to rely on the creepy basement laundry facilities and/or trips to the laundromat.

Well then do what my classy neighbors do which is wash their clothes in the bathtub (or sink) and hang them in the back right in front of the neighbors (mine) bedroom window.

You're assuming I don't do that already.

Okay no, i don't. I'm on the second floor and there are not hangy uppy things to use. I have however, been guilty of drying yarn on a coat hanger suspended from a swiffer handle outside my bedroom window.
