There are event wheels, and then there are these wheels: 734 grams (1.64 lbs.) for the pair at a cost of $15,000. The were made using boron by Lew Racing for a 150-pound (68-kg) German roadie named Gunter Mal, whose complete bike weighs 3,195 grams. That's 7.1 pounds, or less than half of what would be UCI-legal for racing. And Mal claims he rides it as many as 1,000 km (620 miles) a week. For details (with photos) on how he made the bike so light -- and even shaved 30 grams from Lew's wheels -- click http://tinyurl.com/2ac3n5

UCI is the world governing body for cycling.

He must be a pretty competent home machinist to build all that stuff, that's impressive.

I was just talking with a guy yesterday who bought a real light new bike and he was of course making fun of the tank that I ride, I told him 23 pound steel road bikes will be the wave of the future, chrome and all--just wait and I'll have the coolest bike on the block.
