Gunshots?

Yeah, over in the 100 block...

Apparently some ijit fired on a home the next cul-de-sac over. That block is rental properties, not that that means anything, but there aren't any garages and people park on the street for the most part. A neighbour says that there's been a fight over there brewing about parking spaces. Good Gawd.

Police arrested someone early this morning.

When I was in grad school we rented an apartment in the blue-collar section of a complex that had a large student population. One night my wife came bursting out of the bedroom exclaiming "there's a damn race riot going on out there!" I watched through the window as a couple of guys decided to start bashing out the headlights of a car they thought belonged to the other group.

The police finally decided it was worth responding to this call when someone reported that there were shots being fired.

We moved into a duplex south of town as soon as my lease was up.

Back a way long time ago, maybe 1988 or so, on New Years Eve, my soon to be wife and I had a tradition of going into the city and staying at some nice hotel for the evening.

Well, this one particular New Years Eve, many, many, many kids decided it was a great idea too. 20 or so of them would pool their money, and get a room for the evening. The hotel was overrun. This was a BIG hotel, probably 20 stories, hundreds and hundreds of rooms. It was about 11:30 or so, and for some reason I needed to go down to the lobby to get something. The elevators were packed with loud, screaming, obnoxious kids. After eventually getting downstairs and doing whatever I needed to do, I waited forever to get on the elevator again. It stopped on almost every floor, more and more kids getting on.

At about the 5th floor, another pack of kids came on. The doors closed, and one kid pulled out a gun. He didn't intend to shoot anyone, probably just wanted to impress his friends. The doors opened up on the next floor, and I got the hell out. Bang. The kid (I don't think intentionally) shot the gun into the ceiling.

I walked up the next 6 flights of stairs back to my room. More kids were in front of me walking the stairs too. Since I was older, and not dressed like a slob, they thought I was "security". I was afraid I would get beat up.

I got back to the room, and we packed up and left. Even getting out of the place was difficult, it was such a zoo.
