It eats up tons of your computer memory and its apparently very hard to get rid of once loaded on your computer. It works well..... but if I had it to do again.. I wouldnt load it.

I have found another similar program that seems to work well.. without the memory hog issues. But it may not be quite as good as Skype, I'm not really sure. But its worked well for me. Site is www.oovoo.com

Oh... I have skype and do use it with my son who is overseas and it generally works well.
Does that mean it uses lots of memory while you're using it or all the time? I found a section in the FAQs about uninstalling on Macs...but that's a little unnerving that it's hard to get rid of. Good to know, Sierra!
We've been using it at our office and it doesn't use an inordinate amount of memory on the computers which have it installed. We don't use it for phone calls, just IM and webcam chats. The free stuff

I haven't noticed any difference in my system performance after installing the software. When I select "Quit" in the Skype menu, it is no longer listed in the task manager as using memory, so I don't think that's a problem. If it's running without your being logged in, yes it will use memory as will any program when it runs. You can set it to not start when your computer starts. Some of the information you have could be from an older version of Skype.

I also haven't tried to remove it so can't speak about whether it is difficult to remove. However, I'm sure there are tools which will remove it permanently without any problem having used such tools to remove unwanted programs in other cases.
I'll agree with this assessment. The default setting, as with most other chat clients, is for it to start up when your computer starts. This is the first setting I change!

I have uninstalled Skype with no problems.
