well looks like I've resurfaced... taking it slow, restarting yet again. I seem to do this to myself, everytime I get injured. Oh well, onwards I go! Had a couple of run/walks this week, 2 on the treadmill one outside, and one day on the bike trainer. And still looking for another run/walk outside tomorrow.

Slow and steady..... now off to take my daughter to see Tangled!

Good Saturday afternoon.

Perfect running weather here. I had a nice 15.5 mile run into OKC from out in the 'burbs. Lots of curb hopping and stoplights, so it was a bit slower than planned. Opie called when I was about half-way in. Sorry I missed a run with him, maybe next weekend.

Have a great weekend.

Beautiful weather once the sun came out here. I slept in as you can guess from Paul's post. Ran mostly in the grass and some dirt trails for a while, then on pavement for the rest so faster at the end. Got some hills in for a change, 233 ft. ascent, 236 ft. descent, 9 miles above 10 pace for a change these days.

Good to see you back, Rinda. Paul, I'm racing a 5k next weekend. It's at the Northside Y if you want to come.

Hi Rinda! Welcome back! Slow and steady is goot!

Hope Dove said Hi from all of us to RCG. She's been missed, too!

A planned nothing for me today, we got about 6" of snow this morning. DH's back is a bit better, enough to give me a good tutorial on how to operate the snow blower, and to start a nice dinner of braised short ribs. Our bird feeders are just hopping these days with chickadees, juncos, cardinals, goldfinches, bluejays nuthatches, doves, etc.....but it looks like a Cooper's Hawk has taken up residence, as we lost one of the cardinals last weekend. Red feathers were all over the back yard and there weren't many birds seen for a couple of days.

Hi all.....I'm back....SW desert tour 2011....anyone miss me??....that's OK.....didn't expect anyone to.

Haven't had time to look at 3 weeks of threads, but spoke w/ Tamster the other day. She tells me Ben is making some progress. Yay for the Econo clan, still sending out good vibes & thoughts your way.

12.1 mile easy trail run in exactly 2 hours. No rain, but smells like it's on the way.

Nice running Dove, Lab, Gobi, Paul, Opie, Heme.

Yay Rinda....glad you're back....what's tangled?? Drove by Mono Lake yesterday late morning (background of Rinda's avatar). Not a cloud in the sky, but the entire lake was covered in fog. Very surreal looking...took a picture from the top of Conway Summit. If it turns out to be any good, I'll post it.

Good running to all.

Good afternoon! Nice to see Rinda posting and getting back in the groove again!

Welcome back from the desert, John!

I had my 10K race this morning. The third year in a row I've run it. First year involved some walking and my time was 58 something. Next year, no walking, but definitely slow going up these hills and my time was 56:47. This is probably the hilliest race I do. I've been doing about 8 wks of hillwork now - short hill repeats, long hill repeats, trying to hit some target paces on the hills, etc. Today was "let's see if this is paying off day". . .

My goal was sub 55:00 but would also have been happy with taking one minute off my time.

I've had a bit of help in the form of some coaching. He's outlined a weekly schedule for me, told me how to tackle hills, how to train for them, and was kind enough to work out a pace schedule for me today that would give me a time of right about 54 minutes.

this course is a gradual uphill for the first mile, then miles 2 and 3 are mofo hills. some parts so steep that you actually might be better off walking it and conserving some energy. in fact, quite a few people do end up walking this steep inclines. Miles 4 thru 6 are pretty much just coming back the way you came, so a few rollers here and there, but that last 1.5 miles or so is a sweet gradual decline.

my splits: 8.12, 9.14, 9.17, 8.23, 7.55, 8.14 and 1.37 for the last .2.

final time was 52:59 - so pretty close to 4 minutes off last years time. Those hill workouts work! I powered up the hills and this is where I passed people (even those that were running). I'm not as fast on the downhills coming back and this is where I would get passed. But I did love that strong feeling of powering up the hills and passing people.

Unfortunately, no hardware. still 5th in my AG, so a bit disappointed in that. But really, overall, I'm so pleased with how I executed this race today.

Nice and mild here today also so that helped. it was low 40's at the start. Shorts and a long sleeve were perfect.

special thanks to mcsolar for all your help. I'm so glad that with your help I was able to get a sweet PR on a tough course.

Tammy - wow! congrats & awesome on the 10K!!

Johnny - hey there - how are you? actually that is not Mono Lake, but is the Oregon Coast... last summer. I do have some recent pics of Mono Lake though, since we went to Mammoth for Christmas, with snow - pretty cool :D Do post your picture!! Oh, and Tangled is a movie - story about Rapunzel. really, really good if you like kids movies. :D

Gobi, I forgot to mention earlier that I was pleasantly surprised at your comment on taking it easy. Tammy, I'm so happy for you! You've always been good at tackling hills, I think, and it was exciting to see you prepare for and execute this race so well.

40 minutes recovery. End of my recovery week. Sunday, I begin new 4 week cycle. Made good progress during the last cycle. Aerobic speed is improving. Increasing total weekly duration by 15-20 min. per week. TM-ing it in the AM as running trail might still be under the white stuff.

Hey Gang. Welcome back Rindy.

Great race Tamster!

Don't kid yourself, Lab. SS sees all.

It was -2 F yesterday (Sat) morning, so I waited until mid day to start my run. 3 layers and I was comfy at 18 F. 20 miles, 8:42 pace. I'm a little disappointed this wasn't as easy as it should have been. I finished strong and fast the last 3 miles, but the middle miles seemed plodding. Anyway, it's done.
