The bad: started too fast and had to slow down at the end. Finished well behind my now 5 year old PR, with only about 10 people behind me.

The good: kept my concentration up and made my stretch goal.

This 15k is run in the park in my neighborhood. It starts with a mile around a small lake, and then goes along a paved track next to the river. It's out and back, so it's thrilling and disconcerting to see the frontrunners come by. This is not a race that casual walkers do, so my race pace is enought o keep me at the back of the pack.

My goal was to finish with a 10:30 pace, but I had secret goal of a 10:00 pace. The first mile of course I went out too fast with a 9:29 mile. The second mile I thought I slowed down, but also ran a 9:30 pace. Third mile was 10:00 pace. I walked through a water stop at mile five. At mile six, I suddenly felt really tired, and I know I slowed down after that. Another walk through a water stop gave me a 10:30 mile, but evrything else hovered between 9:50 and 10:10. My watch time gave me 1:33:10, a 10:01 pace. I'll take it!

Mr jebba, Miss Sunshine and Little Easy met me at the finish line. Miss S and I went to the now empty 5k finish line and "raced" together a few times. She'd been very disapponted in the morning to hear that she couldn't run the 15k with me. She loved running through the finish.

It's a nice race, very quiet along the river, with enough curves in the path to make you feel sometimes like you're out there alone. I know some people don't like that, but I do my long runs here, and it helped keep me calm.

I am looking forward to going back to base building for awhile before gearing up for my half in March. I'm really hoping to closer to my PR times by then.

Congratulations, Jebba! and good luck with the basebuilding. You write a very nice, concise report.

FWIW, I haven't run 10 minute miles in a race for the last 4 races. Nothing there to feel ashamed about.

Congrats, jebba! You are coming back strong. It sounds like a lovely course.

That's really cute about your daughter racing to the finish with you. Maybe find a kids' fun run for her one of these times?

Good luck as you head into half marathon mode.
