Howdy Cats and Kittens--

Reading through the threads and trying to catch up...Hugs to (((Maria, Lori, Clare, KP, Theia and Kath))I hope parents and kids and guts are better and you are all dealing OK.

I have been running but anything over about 7 brings back the hip crabby, which is a problem. I can't run fast at all (no racing) I need to be able to run 10 again by Oct 2 and had time goals for that, but...oh well. Stretch, ice, take it easy, cross-training, massage.

I CAN run so I'll take that...

I screwed up at work the other day in a way that may have cost a student something. I feel terrible about it, although the screw up was equally the student's fault, I still feel badly.

Bah.

OK...gonna go put in 4 now...trying some cross training later.

State fair this weekend! Yay!! I don't like most state fair food, but I'm a cheese curd whore. (Maybe the correct term is cheese curd escort?)

Hugs to all..Melis

PS--Diet..yes..needs cleaning up. Help! :)

PPS--Sage is running a marathon this weekend--Pocatello. :)

Bunny Bunny! And another month is down the tubes. At least we're getting towards the cooler weather.

My company is still closed becuase of the flooding from Irene. It looks like we'll be back open tomorrow, but I guess I've got one more day of "vacation"...

Back to work today. I like my job, but seriously could have used a few more days of vacation. Unfortunately, I don't have them to take, I've been using them faster than I've been accumulating them (gee, wonder whose fault that is ). I managed to wake up right before my alarm was set to go off, so I turned it off and got up so the alarm didn't wake Moonie. We still have a few more days together, he doesn't leave until Sunday.

We got in late Tuesday night so slept in yesterday, then went to brunch at Tasi. I'd seen good reviews, and after having the food, I agree. I like the vibe of the place as well. The only drawback was that their brewed coffee brand is Crimson Cup. Bleh. OTOH, they had Illy espresso, so I got a latte that was very nice. We then went to the Ohio Historical Society museum. They had a very interesting exhibit that included Ohio's electric chair (Ohio now uses lethal injection for execution) and a KKK robe.

Yesterday's QOD: I lost my weight using Weight Watchers. More recently, when I've chosen to track again, it is the caloriecount.about.com website RIL mentioned. I chose it because it seemed to have a larger database of foods than some of the other websites. I have used the recipe converter many times as well. I do need to get back into tracking things again, I'd like to lose the 25 lbs that have found me in the past 2 years. I might check out some of the ones that have Android apps to see what I like.

Morning, morning, morning, morning! I love waking up in a good mood, though a few more hours would have been nice. Off to a massage soon and more fun stuff coming my way throughout the day.

May this day be full of good news, good cheer, and good friends for us all!!

Maria - never think twice about asking for hugs!! Hoping that the docs find a regimen for your Dad that does the trick.

Anyone here from GoV yesterday? Hope the aches are nothing serious. (I was t-boned when I was ~22, some of my aches turned out to be broken ribs.)

Good racing vibes to Sage. And I hope you hip gets less wonky, craney.

Sleasy 4 for me this morning. Almost finished installing the new transmission on my lawn tractor last night. I was this ------> <------ close. Literally. Two washers that are ~1/8th inch too big. Bah.

Morning all!

I was sofa king tired this morning and did not get up as early as the alarm initially commanded. So I only had time for 8 miles. Weird to say "only" but that is what it felt like. 60 degrees and humid. Nice conditions (less humid would be better, but I am not complaining).

I added my food/exercize intake yesterday and think I am going to stick with it. I am definitely learning there are some foods I thought were okay, but should definitely cut out (like my extra sharp cheddar cheese addiction). I am going to try to keep doing this until Chicago - I think it will be helpful.

Today is orientation day at school for both boys, so I have that going on all morning. DH had to extend his ticket and won't get home until supah late tonight. But all is going well - he is really making a difference. It is nice to help people when you can.

Happy birthday Prae!

Morning

8.6 super sweaty miles last night - I was soaked after a mile and my hip flexor was starting to act up a bit. I opted to not run this morning even though it is going to be brutally hot out this afternoon. As I just have an easy run today I thought it best to make sure the leg is feeling better before doing it.

August Totals: 227.2

Not huge - pretty similar to what I have been doing May on. However, my average pace dropped from 944 to 925! yikes!

((hugs to 30s peeps who need them))

good luck to sage! Eat some potatoes!

8 miles for me this morning with 2x12 minutes at tempo (3 minutes recovery) and then 8 minutes at tempo. Nailed my paces on each one of those so I'm feeling pretty good.

RIL - want another "easy" way to cut calories out of your diet? Go alcohol free. Even if you aren't a "drinker" it will make a difference.

And just a general weight loss/diet comment: remember it takes 21 days to form a new habit so whatever you're going to try, you have to give it time. 3 weeks.

((((Poppa Pfieffer)))))

Teachers are back today for 2 days of staff development and the kiddos start next Tuesday. We just had our welcome back address and I'm a little bummed that out of the litany of people they rattled off for all the work that was done this summer, my department didn't even get mentioned. Not once. And we probably work more in the summer than anyone else. School can't start without us. Oh well. phblblblblblblbttt.

I started back at the 5am runs this week and it has gone surprisingly well. Dropping some pouds has definitely helped my running. I am feeling better than I have all summer. I was seriously thinking that my racing days were over...now, I'm not ruling anything out.

I too found that some former food staples were far worse than I thought. Like pizza. And pasta. I knew they weren't the best, but I really didn't know how bad. And how healthy a 6" sub can be. Aside from the sodium thing. But still a decent choice overall.

Greetings, all!

I am burning one of two days of vacation today. Not for anything fun, unfortunately - more because life's tasks/errands seem to have overwhelmed me and I essentially took some time off to get my s#@t done! I should have gotten up this morning for a run, but slept like crap. Maybe later today. So far (1) I've given both dogs a buzz-cut (2) worked with my exterminating company to address an invasion of sugar ants (in my kitchen, and even my CAR), and now I'm showered, eating breakfast, and soon will be heading to dad's place to pack up more stuff for him. Not the most fun way to start out a vacation day, but ahh well...

hope all goes well in here today. Lots going on.

I got in a 2-part 9 mile run last night. The first part was when I didn't realize that I needed to uh, use the restroom. So, I ran 1.6 miles to a McDonalds. Then, after I ran 7.4 miles to wrap it up.

morning peeps.

I guess today is 8 mile run day? A bunch of you did about 8 miles...funny.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRAE!!!!!

((((((((((Maria and Maria's dad))))))))))))) Keep the faith in his doctors, if they are acting aggressively, they feel strongly there is something else that will work.

(((sore hips, backs, guts, and just anyone who wants a hug.)))

I'd hoped to run last night, but my back and right leg are really bothering me and I'm torn between thinking a run might help, or it will make it soooo much worse. So I opted out last night. Might try tonight though. I can't seem to get back into any kind of routine. And my food intake's all out of whack too...hence the huge weight gain.

I also had another interrupted night's sleep last night. In the last couple months, I've fallen into a pattern of sleeping til 3 or 4, then I'm awake for an hour...then I sleep through my alarm and wake at 8:30. Sigh. So I have to scramble to get to work.

Since the students are moving in this week (even the U President told us yday, "they're back") my commute is a little slower than usual. I can skirt most of the trouble spots but there are just more cars around with drivers who have no idea where they are going. [rolly-eyed smilie] I did hear a phrase on the radio this morning I haven't heard in years: "Allston Christmas"...which refers to Sept 1, when all the leases in Allston, the student slums for BU and BC (among other schools), turn over and the streets are lined with used furniture, lamps, kitchenware, TVs, etc etc etc...fantastic day to garbage pick (in fact, I picked up a HUGE old carved wood picture frame last night from someone's trash.)

THANK YOU ALL, it means to world to me! I talked with all of my family last night, including my incredibly upbeat father and we've got a few things planned. He'll start his new drug today and we should know by next Friday if it's doing anything. Additionally we're looking into appointments with a doctor in Houston, he's been providing alternative cancer therapies for awhile now and having great success and following up with another doc here in NYC that has treated other patients w/Waldenstrom's. All of us are in student mode again, reading and researching the hell out of anything and everything. Aside from yesterday's news, the week has been a very good one thus far in terms of breaking out of my fearful mode and actually doing something physical, aka running. More miles on tap this evening.

Hi all - so many hugs and good vibes need to be handed out. Positive vibes and thoughts to ((((((Poppa Pfeiffer, Poppa Theia, Poppa kp and families, Kath & Nephewoleenie, GoV, BigG and Sis))))) I hope I didn't miss anyone in there.

I ended up suffering from some sunburn while floating on the lake - I would've thought I'd learned from wayyyy back about the magnifying effect that water has on sunlight when I got roasted during a white water rafting trip back in college, but that just shows sunblock is your friend (I didn't use it on that final day). Which also reminds me - healing mojo to all of you nursing achy parts.

Got in about 6 miles total today, 4.5 miles of that running and 0.5 miles of that padding through grass in my socks. Weather was warm and humid but not unbearable, and even got a few spritzels from some passing clouds overhead. Of course, I wish Kris was around, but I suppose this is only practice for when we're both leading the working life from the same abode.

Happy birthday to you Prae! Hope you have a GREAT day today

Just got off the phone with my brother. He said his town is a disaster. He is in Orange County, NY. He did OK himself - never lost power, and his sump pumps kept the water in his basement to a level below the washer, dryer, and hot water heater. The rest of the town is a mess. In addition to massive flooding (enough that the town is still cut off), they had a home fuel oil spill and a sewage treatment plant release. He has spent the last few days helping people clean sewage and oil out of their basements. Basically all of the local residents get together every morning, break up into crews of 3-5 people, and each crew goes to someone's house to take pictures for insurance and then starts cleaning. He said a lot of the houses have oil and sewage into the walls, so they are tearing out drywall and insulation in some cases.

The oil company left all of their trucks in their parking lot, instead of moving to higher ground. One (or more) of them was picked up by rushing water, and slammed into the on-site storage tank, knocking off the release valve. And the river that all this crap (literally and figuratively) is a water supply down river.

In addition, at the height of the storm, their mayor closed the local shelters because they were "too crowded". Idiot.
