Morning guys!

Well, we're on the look out for Earl. I'm not sure what we'll end up getting from him, but I'm thinking it'll just be some rain and wind. Nothing too major. Of course the provincial gov't is telling people to stock up on propane, fill your car with gas, get water, blankets, flashlights and food ready, etc. I suppose they don't want to get caught looking bad in case we do get hit.

In the meantime, it's smokin' hot here! Holy moly!

Morning!

Our forecast is pretty much just calling for wind and possible rain, nothing too harsh. But my friend was on vaca in the Outer Banks and got evacuated, she is royally bummed about it right about now!

My boss is out today so I am hoping to get done and GET OUT!!! Heading to the Eagles game tonight with DH and little man, should be fun!!!

RIL continued good thoughts for DH's friend.

I can join the mom's driving you crazy club...wedding is 5 days away. I'm soooooooo ready for it to be over! It's all coming together, but not without drama!

I assume I have Earl to thank for the rain we have right now. It's supposed to continue through Friday. I wouldn't mind so much, except I have to walk to and from class later. I'm a wimp for walking in the rain.

morning peeps.

So who wants to place a bet that my flight tomw evening to Toronto is delayed/canceled because of the storm?

I had a fun night last night. I go to my sis' a lot for supper but the last time I was there, she told me she was just so tired of cooking all the time, since she's home alone while her DH is away, and I told her I'd bring her supper this week. I tried to get her stuff she'd really like, so I brought her pad thai and fresh basil rolls, plus a fancy Italian cold cut sandwich (since she mentioned she could go for one the other day), and eclairs and cupcakes from the bakery. I also brought pizza for the kids, so she wouldn't have to make anything at all. She told me this morning she went to bed last night, thinking, that was the BEST, and she ate the left over sandwich for breakfast. Heh.

RiL, so sorry to hear the news isn't better so far. :(

Amy, who's wedding again?

I saw yet another accident this morning! gees, that's like the 4th in 2 weeks. this time a bus had hit a car, I think....unless the car had hit a utility pole and was blocking the way for the bus, which is why it was letting off passengers in the street. I don't really know...I just know there was a bus in the route of traffic and a mangled up car.

Maureen you're a good sister! That food sounds amazing!

I went to have my breakfast this morning (yogurt and all bran buds) but my yogurt had gone funky. So now I'm just eating the bran. I might as well be eating the box it came in. Ugh.

QOD: Storms...cool or no? I gotta admit, I'm one of those people who think a big storm is kinda cool. I mean, as long as I'm safe and all. And I don't lose anything (like my house) in it. But a big windy rainy mess that makes you just stay put? Neat. Or a big snow storm that leaves drifts to play in.

Earl will be interesting to watch. I remember when Hurricane Gloria hit CT my freshman year of high school. I had been in high school for about a week, and then the hurricane whipped thru and the whole town lost power. We missed a whole week of school before they got the power back on up there.

Supposedly Early will stay mostly out to sea. But one little unexpected turn, and some community somewhere could be in big trouble... I hope everybody stays safe...

Clare you crack me up!

QOD I'm the same. I like a big thunderey rain storm as long as my kids and I are safe in it and there's no tornadoes. Not really fond of the snow storms however, because those drifts also have to get shoveled. You don't have to shovel rain.

Hungry. The banana flax smoothie isn't carrying me very far this morning. hmph.

Fun for me: today is the quasi-first day of school. The boys have "orientation" at 10, but we'll only be there for about an hour and a half. This means a half day for me. Woo hoo - a 3.5 day work week for me this week and 4 days next week. Yay. Of course that means I'll have to make up for it later in the week, but for now, I'll take it.

Thanks Maureen. I keep praying it is too early for any conclusive determinations.

Oh, as for my rant late yesterday about lawyers... I know not all lawyers are bad. I've just never had a personal experience with an ambulance chaser like this before. I'm not surprised the police reports are public records. (I guess I never thought about it before. Like why would anyone care about someone else's police report??) So it's amazing to me that someone took the time to obatin a report about a minor fender bender and then go thru the expense of mailing this big packet of crap. I really wouldn't trust someone who is so desperate for work that they have to cold call people who get into fender benders...

QOD - Love a good storm, as long as my gutters are doing what they are supposed to :) Need to get the roof and gutters replaced in a year or two.

As far as Earl goes, pretty minimal impact for me - cloudy on Friday, breezy and some showers on Friday\Saturday

amy, wow! that wedding snuck up fast! i bet you'll be relieved to have it behind you.. are you swamped with last min preparations or is everything for the most part done?

qod: i also don't mind storms. theres something fun about hunkering down for a few hours (or days) and eating bad food. lol.

baby A has good and then not as good days.. for the most part, shes on an eating/sleeping schedule of every 3 hours which i suppose is the best you could ask from a newborn. but she'll go for 24 hrs where she doesn't sleep and only wants to eat which is very exhausting. parenting has changed my life.. and i would do it over in a heartbeat :)

Morning, everyone! Thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday. It was a pretty laid back day. I had lunch with a bunch of colleagues at a favorite eatery and then drinks later in the day with a select group of favored colleagues at a brew pub we almost never go to. It was nice, but in between, I had 3 hours of meetings which really exhausted me. I ended up falling asleep at my desk which was fine (I guess) but I'm not at all ready for class this morning. Ah, well. It'll work out.

((((RIL)))) Hope there's better news coming.

~~~~~Kath & Amichel~~~~~ Hope this calm down.
More pictures of Allie, please!
QOD: I love storms as well if I can stay in my house and hunker down on my couch and watch the run-off gully fill up.  Not such a fan of driving in them or working through them.
She doesn't want me to do anything.
The back story is that Mom had her hip replaced 5 or something years ago. She did the bare minimum of rehab after, but didn't keep up with it. On top of that, she doesn't have any cartilage left in her knees or back. So she has a difficult time getting around.
Despite having talked to my mom a couple times in the last few weeks, I found out - from my sister - last night that the first week in August Mom was weeding in the garden. She usually sits on a milk crate or small stool, and has a shovel stuck in the ground she can use for leverage to help her get up and down. For whatever reason, this time she didn't have the stool or shovel, and was on the ground with her right leg under her. When she tried to get up, she fell or slipped or something and hurt her ankle.
Now, if you fell or slipped or whatever, and heard a crunch/crackle noise and then your ankle hurt, wouldn't you go get it checked out?
Not my mom. She didn't get it checked out till she went to her ortho guy (for a normal check up) earlier this week. She said something to him about her ankle, he did some tests, found out a ligament is torn. Which is not his thing, so he referred her to another doc that she went to yesterday. She has to have surgery to fix it.
Ok, even if she had gone sooner it would still have required surgery, but it would have been a matter of sewing the 2 ends together. Now, since it's been a month, the parts have shrunk and they have to graft it back together using cadaver (?) parts. :shudder: So considerably more invasive than it would have been, with a longer recovery.
I'm not mad because she fell. Accidents happen. It's her response to it that bugs the crap out of me. She has great insurance. There is no reason, other than her own stubbornness, not to get something checked out.
I haven't called Mom yet, because I know I'll just end up sputtering at her. Her quality of life could be SO MUCH BETTER if she would just put a little effort into taking care of herself. (This is not an isolated incident. She has a high pain tolerance & her attitude is if it isn't terminal she'll just deal with whatever.)
OSU has their 1st ever weekday football game tonight at 7.  There were people tailgating already at 7:30 this a.m. as I arrived on campus.  We are permitted to disappear for the afternoon but had to ensure we still got in our 40 hours for the week.    I worked commencement this past Sunday and will take home a bit of work to justify the rest of my time.  My office is having a tailgate from 11-1 and I'm able to ditch after that.  I'm glad, I have some errands to run today.
That's actually one reason why I was happy to see this storm skirting the coast instead of coming inland.  Had it come inland, it probably would have impacted travel here on Sat a.m. when I'm due to fly out.  I hope that your flight isn't affected, though.
