OK, I appreciate that I should have wrote this up on Monday's run reports, but it's Tuesday now, and I wanted to write this, and as I will be running later today, I didn't want two reports - so bear with me, please.

I have been neglecting my running in recent months, and the weight has slipped on, reaching a peak at 200 lbs by May 1. I am now on a steady diet, and all week I have been running, slow, short, but signficant, runs and on Monday I went to the gym and wanted to run a time trial to see what progress was being made, even in such a short space of time.

Well, I decided on a 2 mile trial, and I ran hard and true, and as it was a treadmill there is not a lot to describe, but I managed to run 15:59 for the two miles, a time I was absolutely delighted at. It's been a while since I ran under 8 minutes per mile (for any distance!). Last week I was just about managing under 9 minute pace, and feelingit!

Progress can be rapid when you get back into the swing. My weight has already shed 4 lbs, and I can now start to build on this little foundation and hopefully the summer will be more fun.

Thanks for listening.....

That's great, Liam!

(I did something similar last night and am surprised at how fast I was able to run. It hurt but in a good way,)

It'll be a great summer.

I shrug at your being out of shape. "So what, it's Liam, he'll be there come summer..." And sure enough here you are well on the road to it.

You'll rock. I know it.

That's great, Liam. We can get back into it together. I have my post partum dr appointment thus afternoon, and I'm hoping he'll give me the clear to step up from easy runs. I'm finding I'm in better shape than I expected, and hoping to drop a handful of pounds. A time trial sounds like something I'd like to do as well.

Thanks guys... Steve, not so sure about me "being there" by summer, but I'm trying and hoping - Gets harder each year though - One of these years I might try and keep fit all year around

Jebba - Just be careful not to rush things. Since my "Glory Days" of being able to run "fast" and long, every time I have tried to get back into things I have overdone it and rushed things. This time around I am building up slowly, trying to get back into the habit of running 6 days a week, but little more than 2 to 3 miles. Using the treadmills I can gauge my pacing, and having now managed the 2 miles under 8 minute pace, I can build up so that I am running a little further at 8:15/8:20 pace, and then when I am comfortable at running 4 miles at that pace, I can go for a time trial of 3 miles at 8 minute pace - Can you see my plan?

Great to see you getting back into it too.

Hope to see some of you soon, Liam

Keep the focus and it will be a fun summer - If you had a level of fitness last year, it is a much faster journey back to that level of fitness and into the great beyond!
