I come from a Masonic family. A few of my grandfathers were Master Masons. My grandmother was in a female offshoot, Eastern Star, my mother was in Job's Daughters, my brother was in DeMolay and I was a Rainbow Girl.

At the time, it was just a social club thing, but after I converted to Catholicism I discovered the long and antagonistic history between Masonry and Catholicism. If you get deeper into the secret teachings of the Masonic Lodge, you start to see how they diverge from the Church's teachings. Of course, these secret teachings are supposed to be secret, so how can anyone's reports about the secret teachings be trusted?
And the whole idea of secret teachings and secret knowledge goes against the very heart of Catholicism and smells a bit of Gnosticism. Oooh, secret teachings!

Anyway, for me it was a great way to have a ready-made group of sisters in my akward and formative years.

my grandfather is a Mason. I never knew until last year when he up and moved into the local Masonic Home. Oh, and he's Jewish, btw. Not religious. Still, I didn't think the Masons would let Jews in. Shows how little I know.

one of my old uncles was a Mason and a Jew ( i believe he was Jewish, or atleast married to my Jewish Aunt and pretended to be Jewish). I did not know he was a Mason until he died. I do not believe anyone else in my family is a Mason.
