I have a running partner that's traveling to Seattle for a week and was hoping to find a race ..... preferably a 10K or a half marathon in the Seattle area. I figured the best place to ask was here

Thanks,

Also, this Sunday:

Henry Weinhard's St. Patrick's Day Dash 3.5 Miles. Seattle. 9 a.m. Through-city course. One of the biggest single events in the city or state. Beer Garden after. 1-800-343- 4411. www.stpatsdash.com.

If he's not coming this weekend (unclear from your post) the best place to look is the race calendar at http://www.nwrunner.com

Soundie - that was my first race ever. I did that after I had just started running 4 wks prior. And it was my first run over 2 miles and my first run NOT on a treadmill. I had such a good time at that race.

Thanks! I believe he's flying in on this Friday and returning to So Cal either on Easter Sunday or the day before. Hopefully one of these will give him his racing fix

If he goes for the St. Patrick's Dash, just tell him he'll have the company of -- oh -- about 10,000 of his Irish cousins in Seattle. The barefoot one will be Tetsujin.

They start you off in waves to deal with the numbers.

GREEN WAVE: RACE ~ All Timed, Award Category
RED WAVE: RUN OR JOG ~ Timed OR Un-timed
YELLOW WAVE: WALK OR CRAWL ~ All Un-timed

Tammy, you know, I think it was my first race, too -- 2001.

Good luck iapetus and gumbee! Give that green-footed Tet a hug for me if you see him.

I really would love to run this on Sunday, too. Must... not... think about it.

good job soundi, I think the mid-week rain sent him back to texas before knowing it's going to be nice for this weekend's races. Be sure to tell him your room in Eugene is taken again so he won't try to tag along with the Texas flashes from last year.

For St Pat's, meet me and other boomers at Larry's corner at NW intersection of Mercer/Warren N. at 8:40 am. I'll bring the green paint and we'll get VIP seating at FX McRory’s Beer Garden with Henry Weinhard refreshments afterwards.

SLOjim - we want it to be you too!
incidentally, if your friend wants a good time on the downhill ~3.5 mile course, get there early and right up to the starting mats (if there are any) for the gun start or it will be like a parade; otherwise, we'll be having all our own good times too at the beer garden.

Runrwife and I will be in Seattle for the Henry "Hank" race on Sunday morning too. Both of us are running in the "Green" wave. Maybe we will see you all there. Well, hopefully..

And I should have added, "And stay away from that nemesis of mine, Tetsujin!"

BTW, I just learned from Aamos that divechief is the engineer on the Bainbridge Island ferry. Of course there are many ferries but next trip I am going to call him and see if I can meet him some place. Or Tet, maybe I can get you to buy me a lunch. Spareribs

Ribs:

with all the bad press, boats crashing, breaking, rusting and other issues I won't go into. for the first time in 18 years Washington State Ferries has not been a really fun place to work lately.

A little birdy told me you may have ridden my boat lately. actually I am one of 4 chief engineers on the Wenatchee. We have a 4 man engine crew (Chief engineer, Assistant engineer, and two oilers) we work 7, 12 hour shifts. week on. week off alternating days and nights. (7 days, 7 off, 7 nights) FWIW Engine crews are typically assigned to a boat. we work on the same boat no matter what run it is on. it gives us a certain pride of ownership. Deck crews are typically assigned to a run. they work the same route no matter what boat is on it.

unfortunately. we are running out of boats.

I know I totally confused you with all the above, heck. we can't even tell if we are coming or going.

Anyway, I'm really sorry I missed you again. It is early for most, but it's way past my bed time. (nights this week) I really hope we can connect next time you are in the area. I would love to show you what is underneath the car deck.

Now that I know what boat it is, next time I go I'll tell the ticket taker that there is only one boat I want to go on and that's the Wenatchee! See you soon. Spareribs

Ribs, heh heh. Suuuure, you say you'll wait for the Wenatchee, but oh, how little you know about waiting in ferry lines. Come back in July.

Okay, I was lying to him. Why expose me in this? I thought you were crazy about me. I see it's Tet who is influencing you. I have a lot to think about now. Spareribs
