Is anyone else running the Seashore Nature Trail 50K down in VA Beach this weekend? It should be fun! Saturdays forecast is highs in the 40's with a 30% chance of rain. There is nothing better the running through low lying wetlands in the rain.

I'll be there! Last year's race was my first ultra so this is my anniversary run.

I'd love it to snow during the run but it looks like the precipitation will be more toward the afternoon. We're gonna get some snow today though so the trail may be, um, "pre-moistened".

This race is going to get a reputation for foul weather! Last year we had a nor'easter on race day and a lot of drop outs.

See ya there! No idea what I'll be wearing. Might bring the Nathan vest with no bladder just for storing an extra layer and rain shell.

Once again I missed out on a KR meeting! This was my first year running the race. I had a great day! Even had a 32-minute PR. Unfortunately, my drop bag went missing. I am hoping to hear from the RD today. Fingers crossed they find it. A lot of expensive gear to replace, if not....

Bummer on the drop bag. I found the instructions and logistics of the drop bags very confusing this year so I just skipped out altogether and carried an empty Nathan pack to stow gloves/hat/shirt in.

Congrats on the PR! That's quite a chunk of time!

For me, I was about 20 min slower than last year. I was smack on track for a PR through the first lap and feeling great. The start of the second lap also started an IT flare up on the right leg -- very odd as my right IT band has never showed the slightest sign of misbehavior. That resulted in a significant slowdown and uncomfortable second lap.

I still enjoyed the course though. The combination of bald cypress swamps, spanish moss and snow/ice was an interesting sight. I'll shot some video that I'll try to cobble together for youtube. Here's a photo:

Edit: and a video shot while I ran. Sorry if it induces motion sickness!

Congratulation Mobius and 1Topodope on your finishes! Sorry I didn't have the pleasure of meet any of you, hopefully next time. ITopodope, sorry to hear about your drop bag issue, that really sucks!

For me Saturday was a great day for running. I am a cold weather runner, and with the low temps and cloud cover I was in heaven. With the weather on my side and the running gODS looking down fondly upon me I was able to set a new 50K PR of 4:48:17, besting my previous PR by more then an hour and a half.

Wow! An hour and a half. You did have a great day!

Big lesson learned on the drop bag. This has never happened to me before. I am just now starting to add up the cost of replacing everything that was in my bag. I still have a glimmer of hope that is will be turned in...but the glimmer is fading. At this point I hope whoever has it needs it more than I do

The race director (jokingly) told me the F-18 formation flyover was scheduled just for the race :)
