<p>This car is the driveway of the house across the street. It and 10 others burnt yesterday. My 83 year old grandma had to escape through her backyard...her house survived because 3 planes dumped water on the houses on that side of the street. The fire was started by a homeless man, jumped interstate 5 and burnt the houses backing up to the freeway.</p>

<p>My aunt was visiting. She had gone out for groceries and by the time she headed back the neighborhood was on fire and she couldn't get in. It took her 4 hours to find my grandma.</p>

<p>My Grandmother's neighbor Jo is 95 years old and uses a walker. She was escorted out of the neighbrhood on foot by the firefighters.</p>

<p>I'm amazed that Grandma had the presence of mind to escape through the backyard and not panic when other avenues of escape were closed to her.  That's a woman with stamina. </p>

<p>Oh wow!  My friend who is here said she saw the story on the news.  I'm so glad your grandmother is safe and that she didn't lose her home.  I feel so bad for those who did, though.</p>

<p>I am in Seattle for work and I saw it on the news yesterday morning. All they said was that 11 houses burned in Ashland after a fire hopped I-5. I freaked out because I knew it had to be her neighborhood. I got ahold of her right after they had returned from being evacuated. I called and told my parents as they had no idea...it wasnt on their news.<br><br>

<p>Somehow this still freaks me out. I ahve watched some videos online and one shows a dashboard cam from a police car. You see the houses in flames and the firefighters are running up to each house knocking on the doors. I can see them frantically running up her driveway. Freaks me the heck out. If it had been at night people probably would have died.</p>
