Richard - Sounds like you've got tough choices ahead of you

Up and waiting for the surge that will push me out the door for a 4 miler. Shoulda put an extra scoop of coffee in the pot this morning. Worrying has been cramping my sleeping style this week and energy has suffered a little.

Ok, enough complaining back after my run...

Dan, after all these years of knowing you I just realized, based on a post of yours from yesterday, that your user name is Vashon Dan - not vashondan (all one sound) - and suggests that you in fact, live on Vashon Island.

La la la.

I'm taking off today so I can be fresh for the 15K race tomorrow. Good ones, all.

I'm thinking I need to take a rest day as I'm feeling beat. As Alex pointed out yesterday, my easy run probably wasn't slow enough... I should have gone with recovery pace, i.e. ~8:50mpm rather than 7:50mpm. it didn't help that I ran on the indoor track and I can't run slow for any period of time there, I just can't... oh well, sorry Team J...

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Ellen - No Dan is an island! Good luck on your race.

fuller - Have a good one.

RunAsics - I've never run on an indoor track. Can't imagine. How many laps to a mile?

4 miles for me this morning. Nice run. Felt good and pushed a little on the hills. Back feels good.

Enjoy everyone.

RunAsics- I know what you're saying with the indoor track. Throughout college we trained on a 90m track, yes 90m once around. Hard as hell to keep any sort of normal pace on there.

Off day for me. Very sore from European Handball yesterday in addition to my run. Long run tomorrow.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Mornin' all.

30F, feels like 19F, at 7:30a here in Cleveland. The rain/snow mix last evening, followed by overnight freeze, resulted in a slippery road surface on today's run. Only took one spill on the ice.

15 miles in 2:12 (8:48/mi.) Had to take it easy in spots due to the ice. Ran from my house along the lake, into the inner city, and around downtown Cleveland. Discovered that Jacobs Field is now called Progressive Field. I don't know how I feel about that. Returned through Ohio City and discovered the childhood home of John Heisman - namesake of the Heisman Trophy. There is a state historical marker in front of the house. Returned though Edgewater Park along the frozen beach. All the while I thought about those in Huntington Beach enjoying the SoCal weather.

Have good runs, RichardC, vashondan, kfuller, and ellenshana. Enjoy rest, RunAsics. I concur with Alex about the negative impact of running recovery days too fast.

Roots-- I don't like the name change of Jacobs Field to Progressive field. I guess if you give up enough money they will change the name.

I got out for a nice 7.5 mile run plus walking and stretching and such. 7.5 miles in 1:04:30(8:35) and it was the longest run of the year for me. I could have gone longer, but did not want to over do it for the week. I am right where I want to be on my weekly mileage also. I am trying to average 30 a week going into my first race of the year and right now I am at 25.5 for the week.

Have a great morning everyone.

I thought your user name was native american... Vashon = "island with big hills" and Dan = "made for running". Learn something new every day I guess.

It's 8 laps to the mile and has a rubberized surface. Mentally, the short laps makes it easier to push the pace as you can say to yourself "one more lap" or "only x laps to finish the mile" and repeat as often as necessary... However; I can get a little competitive with the other runners. For example; last night some young guy kept running behind me, 4 or so laps at a time - each time I found myself speeding up until he stopped.

Short track... UG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The one at my gym is 20laps/mile. It does a number on the balls of my feet.

Ellen--perhaps you needed that extra scoop in the coffee???

Roots--sounds like an interesting run. My hubby grew up in Cleveland, so some of those landmarks sound familiar.

I slept in a bit later than planned. Didn't get out for my run until 7:15, when I was hoping to be out by 6:30. Made things tight this morning! Decent run. 30* with slight winds. Perfect weather! Started with my usual route, then cut through to another neighborhood and did most of the Labor Day 5K route, then back home. My garmin was on the wrong screen, so I had no idea what my HR was, although I knew I was most likely running too hard. The run just felt good. 8.84m, 1:15:45 (goal 1:15), 8:34pace. Yah, a bit fast for a training run!

Came home and found a flock of bluebirds in our tree! Every few years they come and strip our berry tree. However, this past spring we had a late hard freeze that killed the flowers, so there were no berries. It's going to be a hard winter for bluebirds...

Stopped long enough to change shoes, then sat on the bike and went nowhere for 30mins.

Quick shower, then off to work!

Richard - Decisions, decisions...I feel for you. But I would choose the symphony, so what do I know?

Dan - I could only WISH I lived on your island. That would be awesome. I envy you the "island status." Every man is an island, don't you know. Holds true for me.

Ellen - Good luck on your 15k! I hope it's beautiful.

RunAsics - I should take the day off too, as I have a 22 miler scheduled for tomorrow. I think I may just do the elliptical. Sometimes I wish I could train with you. You and I seem to have the same mindset on running...but then we'd both be hurt because we'd try to outdo each other until it killed one of us.

Enjoy the day off, Liz.

Roots - Nice one.

kfuller - Nice going on your long(ish) run today. I think that's the first time I've seen you post a run over 5 miles.

mom - I still don't understand how you can say 7:15 is late.

New shoes! They are finally here, just in time for my long run tomorrow. 22 miles in them right off the bat. That will have to wait until tomorrow, though. I am not running today. Think I may hit the gym for some elliptical action. Phillip and I have a date tonight, too, so it's going to be a nice and relaxing day...

Good ones to everyone!

GOOD LUCK TO THE RACERS TOMORROW!

Tonya-- Most of my weekly runs are 5 or 6 miles. The long runs I do on Saturday are usually around 8 miles or so when I am training for races. I am not up to much more than that even though I could have gone longer. My longest run ever is 10 miles and I will probably do that again this year.

Hi gang,

Just a bit over 3 for me this morning. We were hit hard with snow on Thursday and they are just starting to clear up the side roads and sidewalks today. I waited until noon to go out which meant more people to run around...so opted for a short run.

RunAsics - is the track you are talking about on Chestnut??? I'm going to laugh very hard if it is as I run that from time to time as does another member of the CR transition over to KR group

Good luck racers!

Hey ya'll,

I had a terrible run today. Lots of ITBS pain that got to the point where it was bad enough that I couldn't run through it anymore and I had to stop and walk a mile of shame back to my car. Got in 7 miles and then a 1 mile walk of shame. Was supposed to do 10. Oh well, you win some you lose some.....

I'm also pissed right now cause 2 of my roommates (I have 3, ones my best friend and we got stuck with the other 2 without knowing them before living with them) brought back like 5 guys last night, woke me up around 3am with all their screaming/yelling/loud music/banging (one of them slammed into my door on the way to her bedroom). Then I get up this morning and their bathroom (the 2 of them share a bathroom and my best friend and I share one) is spotless and mine has puke in the tub, puke in the toilet, and puke on the toilet seat. Needless to say, I'm pissed and I've had enough. They were asleep when I left to run and aren't home now, but they're definitely cleaning it all up when they get back. But I'll probably have to clean it myself later anyway because they'll half-ass it. I really hate them and I've had enough of this.

On a lighter note, I'm going to watch the Milrose Games on NBC in about 10 minutes. Theres a kid from Blacksburg high school who is going to be featured in the high school mile. His name is Peter Dorrell and last weekend he ran the #1 time in the U.S. for the 3200m with a 9:06.30. Should be a good show

Take care and have a good day everyone!

Got out there for 6 miles today. Hopefully I can get in 12 tomorrow, not sure. As Flobear mentioned it is pretty difficult to run around here these days. Sidewalks and streets are still pretty much snow covered. I ran in the street when I could and then after nearly getting killed 5 times I opted for the ankle-breaking snowy sidewalks. Tomorrow I'll try and get to the lakefront path which should be plowed and clear. Hopefully!

Asics - No not native american Actually on this island no one get's to be even called a native islander no matter how long they live here.

Tonya - I said no Dan is an island! You'd love it here for running. You can run yourself silly on so many different routes (except flat ones which there are none of) with so many great views. Heck, you'd probably never come home!
