AND GO DO IT!!

I'm on the TM this morning...again. I've been been keeping up with running and getting up at ridiculous hours to get it done lately. You can't believe what is on the TV at 4-5 AM...so now I've become a Netflix junkie But, due to the weather and our snowfall amounts, I've been very limited in where I can run and am becoming bored to death with inside.

I got gripper shoe thingees and will be trying those Monday...it will warm up enough for me to be outside. Yay!!

(((Dan's knee))

How's the legs, Duckie and Lora? Hope you feel better, Lora!

Vit D discussion--too weird. I was recently dxed with this and low iron!!! Doc said part of the reason I got really sick after TCM this year and couldn't get better.

Also...in another "this happens to you when you get older" development, I have acid reflux. It does affect me running..YAY!!! Started pretty recently. Anyone deal with this on longer runs?

Good news: I have to really watch the diet because of it, so that's been good.

see ya!

Me too. F-iing cold here. Just saw on the news this morning that we've been 10+ degrees colder than normal for the last month-6 weeks. Lovely.

I will be walking through airports. :) I expect the weather in SF will cause arrival delays so I may have a longer layover in LV than my ticket says. More time to walk I guess.

Morning all,

crazy cold out there. It was 28 and spitting frozen rain on us when we started at 6:00am. At yet, we still had 8 of us in our little training group. Nice! The freezing rain stopped but then the wind picked up. Managed 15 miles.

2oh - that's a rough diagnosis. Hang in there buddy. You'll get it figured out.

Add me to the list of those in the crazy cold weather. BUT, I looked at the forecast and it is going to warm up next week! Yay - bye bye sub-zero! Not sure if I will hit the treadmill or go outside today, but I do know I am going to wait a couple more hours. It is supposed to be a *little* warmer tomorrow, so will do my long run then.

Dan - about the knee....First and foremost, that really really really sucks and I am so sorry to hear it. I wouldn't blame any of it on age though. I had a traumatic injury to my R knee when I was 14 (in a "wave" pool and some pick guy accidentally jumped on me - knee smacked right into the concrete floor and has never been the same. When I was 19 I had surgery and they had to clear out a bunch of cartiledge. I've had arthritic issues since then. The very best things I have done are: (1) keep running and doing leg pilates - this keeps the muscles that support he knee as strong and balanced as possible - if that is week, your cartilege issues will be worse. My knee was most painful/problematic when I did not exercise regularly. Everyone constantly tells me how bad marathoning is for your body, but guess what: since I started running high mileage, my knee has been better than ever.

(2) I also religiously take a high stength glucosamine/condroitin supplement such as this:

I talked to my DR about it and this is one of the few supplements that has been tested extensively and it works for about 25% of people. It is like a miracle drug to me. I can never tell when it starts working, but every time I slack on it, I really start feeling it in my knee significantly.

Anyway, I know my issue is different from yours, but these are things that helped and you may want to consider. I hope you find ways to manage it.

And more time to gamble at the airport slot machines!

I just finished a run of 8.9 miles. I think that's good enough. The only thing I still want to accomplish in 2010 is to beat last year's mileage total. 2010 YTD is at 1,564 miles. 2009 total was 1,605. I think I can easily get 41 more miles in the next couple weeks...

Just got back from 6 slippery, cold miles. It is "feels like" 1 degree out there, but I was pretty bundled up so it wasn't bad at all. The footing was pretty treacherous though. I almost completely wiped out once.

I got out for a great 5.4ish today. It was snowing, but the roads weren't too bad. Just had to watch my footing. It was great to have a running partner too!

11 on the hamster wheel--ran until it stopped. I know. I know. At the end, I just kept thinking about something Tex used to say (remember her?), "it's just mentally tough". Knowing it was just my brain that wanted to quit made my legs hang in. Thank you to Battlestar Galactica today for it's help.

Hey guys!

I raced a 5k this morning, in craptastic conditions, ugh. I was slower than last week, with a much harder effort. Heat, humidity, and the wind, my god, the wind. One a positive note, I won and it was a decent sized race, so that makes it worth it. Ran a few before and after to end for just over 10 for the day. My leg is feeling sore, so I'll see if I can do my long run tomorrow. I've been sucking down massive amounts of fluid all day, hopefully I'll get rehydrated here at some point. I have been sternly reminded why I don't race in these conditions. MJR was smart enough to just not do it, he played the support role today.

And Crane! 11 on the mill? uff da! I can't find the notworthy smiley. So I just used that guy instead. heh. Seriously, those long treadmill runs are so brutal. uhg.

Spent a couple hours at the gym today - felt great. 4 miles on the mill and 45 minutes of upper body weights. RAH! I think I'm loving running again. Or, maybe it's the beer talking. If I don't feel hungover-ish tomorrow morning I'd like to try for some outside miles. We'll see. I have to head to WI at noon to get the kids so my morning time is limited.

More {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{2oh }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} just because I like doing that.

I watched half live & dvr'd half cause I had to leave to go to dinner with the ILs. Watched the rest after dinner. Holy Moly! How about that 2nd Iron War?

And that 80 y/o who finished his 21st? Those people - all of them - are freaking amazing.

Makes my 6 on the tm this morning seem piddly, but I'm ok with that.

Morning all! We've had some warmer conditions yesterday & today, almost balmy at in the 30s ... very enjoyable and no crazy winds either. I got in a short 7 miler yesterday and 15.4 miles this morning including the Ted Corbitt 15K in the middle miles. May get to the yoga studio later or at least get some yoga done at home.

Nuts, I missed the IM coverage/replay too.

doh! I missed the IM coverage too. I heard about it on the run this morning. My local club (BTC - Birmingham Track Club) hosted our year end run on a clear but cold sunday morning. Turn out was light. But I ran an easy 6 with a couple of my training buddies, then drank coffee and splurged with 4 cookies from the goody table after.

Today's all about packing the car. We roll out on Christmas tour 2010 tomorrow morning. I should have had tour shirts made.

jen - congrats! you're mounting a nice little comeback there...

{{{goon}}} - me too.

ril - thanks for the info. i'll check them out. i do take a glucosamine/condroitin supplement although i'm not as consistent with it as i should be. my age comment was actually something my doc said about treatment/replacement options for articular cartilage injuries - <40 is the target age. i'm still reading about all options though. was yours a meniscus injury? i agree with your knee strength comment related to running. my knees have never felt stronger and i do get some xt workouts with medicine balls, bosu ball incorporating balance and strength. this little donut hole can be a bit of an issue with the tension in the patellar region (according to what i have read thus far). i have already had some pretty good twangs of pain just doing simple/low strain exercises.

a trip to the gym for me today with 30 min cycling and a mile on the elliptiriderthingy. boring...very boring.

i did get to see some of the IM coverage while i was on the bike yesterday. who won?

did that iraq veteran/C patient finish?

cheers
