Thanks for listening last night. Nobody likes a whiner. It was my first attempt at a progression run. and as a friend pointed out, a good effort. What I'm trying to craft is a way to avoid the seemingly inevitable slow-down and dropping heart rate at the end of a marathon, or even a long run at marathon pace.

I'll do some running later today. Have a good day!

Good morning, guys...and everyone else to follow. I'm taking the day off running today, partly so I can get my house in order. (Evanflein sets a good example ).

Our church is co-sponsoring the African Children's Choir over New Years. We will be hosting 2 little girls at our home, starting Sunday night. Mon and Tues will be fairly full days of activity, then the girls leave for another part of their tour on Wed morning. It should be a lot of fun and my girls are really looking forward to it. In the mean time, I've got lots to do....

Have a great day, everyone.

no projectile vomiting over here, tomwhite!

Enjoyed the mirc chat last night...

Another windy run with Jen on tap for me in about an hour. Will the wind never cease? I listened to it howl all night and the gusts are still upwards to 32 mph. Thank God for running pals or I might not get out the door this morning. At least the *feels like* temp is on the positive side at 4.

Millbot, do you remember me saying I enjoy winter running earlier in the season? Please remind me what it is I like about it.

[edited to add: no worries Opie -- we're all entitled to whine now and then. My turn is today! I think today's title should read "Saturday STIFF like running"]

Hey folks. I was browsing yesterday's thread and wanted to chime in on the importance of having ID with you when you run.

If the RoadID price tag ($20) is what's making you hesitate, as it did for me, one inexpensive alternative is to go to a pet store and get an engraved dog tag--I'm not kidding! I got one with my name, address, and two phone numbers for about $4. It hangs off my Garmin strap so I never forget it. Since they're dog tags, they are quite durable (mine's over two years old).

Hope everyone is well over here.

Thanks, Hally. I'm getting excited about trying out a new trail this afternoon, at Lake Thunderbird in Norman. I think an easy trail run is just what I need right now.

I tried the dog tag id, but was picket up by animal control, put in a cage at the animal shelter. They called the phone number and kay refused to pick me up as she didn't want to pay the fine. I tried to convince the folks there that I was not a dog, but all they could say was "was good doggie, time to go for a walk and play frisby." I have to admit it was fun, but wasn't to comfortable with the other dogs sniffing my ass and trying to hump me. It was kind of fun to when the trainers would hug me, pulling my head into thier breast. Still the food sucked and the floor was cold. A few folks came to look at me, but they thought I was just getting to old and they wanted a younger dog with a tail and more hair and they thought I really smelled bad. Finally after the animal convinced Kay that they were about ready to uthenize me, she reluctantly payed the fine and took me home. I was so glad to be home, getting a bowl of my favorite purina dog chow and my blanket on the garage floor. Well I think I will go pee on the truck tires.

RTB - very funny - thanks
Tramps - I was noticing at a fun run last week that one of the ladies had a dog tag on her shoe. I assumed that was her id but didn't get a chance to talk to her.
Hally - done good
Maybe a stroll through the woods on the trail, then? The bright side is that I did 15 mi. @ 9:58 avg. If I could add another 11.2 mi. that would be a hugh PR.

Hey, MC, enjoy those cool temps. I just did my yardwork, getting up on the roof and getting that big cottonwood branch off.

Well done, Opie, emcee.

I took my sore hip to the chiropractor last night, and one adjustment + two Advil = pain-free hip this morning. Still and all, I think it would be smart to test-drive the hip today by swapping my long run and recovery run - so will be headed out on a shuffle just as soon as these waffles start to settle in my tummy.

I love waffles. I hate being the maker-of-waffles. Everybody gets to eat and eat while I get crankier and crankier, churning out waffles for the crew. Finally, they're all sated, and I put a nice hot steaming waffle on my plate, and everyone else evacuates, leaving me alone with my waffle. GrumbleGrumbleGrumble.

Hey Opie, that didn't sound whiny to me. Bad runs happen.

Good running and partying, cfli.

Marie, that sounds like a fine adventure for your family.

choovie, I'll work on that list of good things about winter running. I'm not liking it at the moment so I need to wait for a better frame of mind.

Larry, that was hilarious!

ks and mc, idle hands are the devil's workshop!

I think I rebroke my big toe this morning. Can you rebreak a toe just by tripping over an unrolled yoga that you're carrying to put away? Better yet, can you run on a rebroken big toe? The original break was probably 8 or 9 years ago. I just did 5 miles, toe was aching dully the entire way, but the joint bends, so I really don't know. Doesn't really look swollen, though it is kinda tender to the touch. hmmm...

Worst thing is, I'm supposed to go back out this afternoon and do an easy 3 miles with Mr. OrangeMat, since the weather's so nice here today (48 and partly sunny, feels more like mid-March than late December). He's officially starting W8 of C25K today, and wanted to finally try running outdoors instead of on the TM. He might be on his own, unfortunately.

Anyway, at least I did my 5, 9:04 min/mile pace, which brings me to 100 miles for the month, woohoo! Though if I do go back out for 3 more today, and crank out another 5 on Monday, that would put me at that auspicious number of 108 for December... we'll see...

When I got home from my run, my son was out in the car for his very first behind-the-wheel lesson from the local driving school, still parked in front of the house. Talk about needing to keep breathing!

Good runs all!

Mustang Sally, no need to grumble! You should have a rule in your house like I do, that no one gets to eat until all the batches are done. Well, that's the rule I used to have, at least with baking cookies. Needless to say, I don't bake cookies anymore.

I ordered my RoadID yesterday. But now I can't move ever or I'm out 20 bucks!
MS.. I know what ya mean being the waffle maker. Especially when the last one doesn't have enough mix and you get this wierd shaped partial waffle to sit down and eat alone

Today's 17 miler really tired me out. It was much slower than last week intensionally but it was so warm and humid (66F and steamy) that I sweat a gallon and that tired me out. So 17.2 mi in 2:38:24 (9:12 pace AHR 151). First 2.2 miles with Tory.

Re-hydrating...
Steve
