Morning Kicksters

No running yet for me. Just dropped in to say hi. Had a tough week but it feels like I might be slowly improving. Still a little fatigued though so will wait a little longer. Ommmmmmmmmmmm!

Have a great weekend.

Rest up Danno.

I am waiting on JD right now. We are gonna go to Shelby Farms for an easy run, then we have to pick up our race bibs/bags there for our Mud race tomorrow. Dosn't look like the weather is gonna be too kind for the race, calling for 92*. Oh well, still ought to be fun.

I almost forgot to wish all the marathoners good luck today!

Dan -- Hang in there, buddy.

BBS -- 92 degrees and mud. Sounds like a winning combination. Go get 'em.

Me -- Four easy miles. Then put together a race plan for the hilly parts of my race tomorrow. Some football, too.

Hope zrun and RA are resting up for the big show tomorrow.

Dan--hang in there. Maybe just take the pups for a short strollo-bollo?

BBS--good luck tomorrow! Although those temps don't sound too fun.

Last "long" run for me. Terrible night's sleep due to an unexpected visit from the fire dept. Our situation was quickly resolved, although dealing with the neighbors was far more volatile. Drove over to another neighborhood so I could have my "aid station" every 3.3m. Lap times of 28:53, 28:46, 28:47, 29:34 (tried to throttle back!). Total 13.23m, 1:56, 8:46pace. MP is 8:45, so I have GOT to get myself under control!

Beautiful day today, so yard work on tap.

Watching Spirit of the Marathon via Netflix. Probably take DD out in the BOB for a short jog to the park to keep the ole legs loose. Weather is not looking any better. I think the temps will be manageable for most of the race but the lack of cloud cover is not good news past the half way point. That did me in in 2008. Oh well, it is what it is. Time to suck it up and run my race. I'll play the pacing by ear after the 1st 5k with the 3:10 group.

4boysmom - that's a fine m-pace run... What's up with the fire dept? You causing trouble again?

Chances - easy does it. Best of luck tomorrow.

BBS - sounds like a fun ole time. Think of how the mud will do wonders for your skin

Dan - at least you are seeing improvement. Much be frustrating.

Hey everyone!

Nice job out there eveyone.

4BM - Not sure what pace you were trying to run, but it looks pretty solid to me.

Me - I decided last night to run a 10K today. I have never run one so I wasn't sure how I would do, especially since I haven't done any speed work. The first half of this run was pretty tough, a tough little 5K if I would have decided to do it. Lots of hill through the first 3 miles and then it kinda flattens out on a rails to trails path to the turn around with 2 miles to the finish. I think I ran pretty well considering no speed work. It was a small race and I ended up 3rd OA and 1st Masters. My time was somewhere around 41:3x. I will post a race report later.

Happy training everyone.

RA- Knock 'em dead!

Mom- Nice job on the long run, take it easy in the yard

Dave- Nice job on the 10K debut!!

Just got back from our run. Did 4 miles at a cruise pace and finished the last .5 at about 5K pace. We got to scope out the obstacles and the mud pit. We're trying to think of a low budget costume idea for us since everyone is 'supposed' to dress up. Any suggestions?

Hey all, I'm about midway through a ride. Just stopped at a Robek's to refuel. It's been more of an adventure than planned. Flatted at around 9 miles, then I had to walk it 0.7 to the nearest bike shop for a new inner tube. It's about 15 back home frome where I am now. Guess I'll ride it back hard since I won't get the distance I had in mind.

Rest up all you racers.

Nice job on all the running this morning. I got in 5 miles in 40:55(8:11). Then went with the family to the Natural History Museum on the University of Utah campus. They do a what's in the basement once a year and today was the day. We get to see quite a few things that are in the basement. Right now they are packing up so they can move to a new building. Not it is time for lunch and some football. Have a great day everyone.

Back home from the ride. 30.4 miles total, not bad considering the unplanned repair stop (and 0.7 walk to the nearest bike shop) in the middle of it. Really pounded the hills on the way home, then sprinted in last mile at 20+ mph.

Nice running all, congrats on the AG win, Dave!

Trail marathon. This time I actually did some good training for it. The spaghetti feed was good with a nice 3 piece folk band playing.

Weather was cool at the start but did get warm. Despite being on a wooded trail there was a nice breeze in my face. Slept in the car, which went sorta ok. Woke up on time and was one of the first to the bus pickup. Reached the starting line with an hour and 20 minutes to go. Nearly first in line for the portapotty, I had remembered to bring everything and it was looking like a good day. BSd with a couple of runners. One was a preacher named dave who knew Bjorklund and Shorter and had served in Iraq. Final prep went well and I toed the line.

My pr was 4:06, but thought I had sub 4 for sure and maybe a 3:55 in me, maybe even a 3:50 if everything was perfect.

Off we go. The first mile is a paved road with one small hill, marker 1 in 8:15. Maybe too fast but it was effortless. Miles 2 and 3 had some downhill, they went in 8:06, 9:09. Yikes again, but still no strain. So I threw the expectations out the window and ran what felt right. Miles 4,5,6, in 8:22, 8:18, 8:18. I did the first 3 miles without my mp3 player as a safety precaution, fumbled with it during mile 4, got it on, good to go. Miles are still fast but effortless.

Miles 7,8,9 in 8:25, 8:35, 8:17. Still good. Miles 10,11,12 in 8:31, 8:07, 8:39. Mile 11 had some downhill and I slowed going through the waterstops at 10 and 12. Mile 13 in 8:41, first half in 1:49:37. Things are going way way way better than I expected. Worked on maintaining form and try to stay steady on the pace. Miles 14,15,16 in 8:34, 8:26, 8:47. I took my G1, ibuprofen, and finished off the licorice during mile 14. At the rest of the aid stations I would grab a cup of poweraid and a cup of water, drink the poweraid, about half the water, and pour the rest over my head. I am now falling into the pace I was originally targeting. The 2:14:29 is an all time pr for 16 miles and I would set a new all time pr for every mile to the end.

Miles 17,18,19 in 8:39, 8:42, 8:47. It was getting warm, I had slowed a little but still going strong. Miles 20, 21, 22 in 8:52, 8:39, 8:56. I was slowing more and could have kicked it down but decided not to risk blowing up. I was passed about the same number of people that were passing me. In my last 3 marathon I was running about 9:30 pace for the last 8 miles and I usually passed 10 to 20 runners and maybe 1 would pass me. But at this pace I am among people who can actually run. I maintain for 2 more miles.

Miles 23, 23 in 9:11, 9:07. The left hip and quad are definetely complaining, but I hold it together and start to kick down. From here to the end I pass about 20 runners and nobody passes me.

Miles 25,26 in 8:45, 8:23 with 1:29 for the last .2. The last .2 was under 7:30 pace and about 20 yards from the finish I caught one last runner with a hard sprint. My watch says 3:43:58, a PR of over 22 minutes. This goes with PRs for 5k, 10k, 30k, and 20 miles that I had set during training. In the first weekend of taper I had missed a half marathon PR by 26 seconds, so I felt that this was the best training I had ever done and a smart run would be a guarenteed PR, and it was, and ran the entire distance without walking a single time. Usually I bonk or lock up a knee at mile 19.

Splits were 1:49:37,1:54:21. My 11th and 22nd fastest half marathons. The 30k time of 2:37 is 3 minute pr over a 1 minute pr I ran last month.

Recovering. Some stiffness in the legs, nothing serious. I am contemplating a 50k trail run next weekend.

Good runs everybody.
