Morning peeps

picture perfect day in the deer stand. Calm and about 28*. All I need is some deer...

I did my 21 yesterday, but it was tuff. I was wanting to quit around mile 15, I had to dig deep to finish. My feet were killing me. Time for new shoes? Looks like I only got 400 miles in them...?

BBS--there's just something wrong about surfing the 'net while sitting in a deer stand... "Only" 400miles on your shoes?! I'm lucky to get more than about 250. GET NEW SHOES!

Yet another sick day. I actually had to call in sick today. Cough got pretty bad yesterday so I started taking some stuff that has codeine in it. OY!!! I'm not coughing but I'm too loopy to drive! Work said they didn't what my germs anyway.

Mom- yea, this modern technology helps me sit a little longer in the deer stand. I run my long runs in mizuno wave riders, which are pretty cushiony, I figured I'd be able to get 500+ out of them, at least that's what the running store said. Get well soon

Wow...sleepy or busy group this morning. I'm betting the latter.

BBS - nice run yesterday...400 miles is definitely time to start thinking about some new shoes. I start breaking in a new pair once I hit 350 or so. By the time the old ones hit 400, the new kicks are ready to take over.

4bm - almost missed your post, keep getting better, you'll be back out there soon.

Hopefully RA is kicking it out in Indy right now.

As for me, I'm about to head out for a little 2-3 mile shakeout run since I didn't get to do anything yesterday -- taper or not I need to do something as I'm definitely tight after sitting on that bus. Then it's off to the expo w/ DW, and hopefully after that we'll meet up with my aunt (who lives in the West Village) for some lunch. After that, nothing but chillin' the rest of the day.

Happy running all.

Good morning! I finished my 3rd and final run in the relay this morning at 7:45. So 19 miles total for yesterday and today. I am sleepy and stinky. We're waiting on the other team members to complete the final 30+ miles.

Good morning!

Rest day for me. Not sure if I tweaked my left calf yesterday during my run. Something happened, so I'm being careful.

Great job jebba!! Can't wait to hear more about the relay.

Good luck tomorrow Hawk!!

Welcome home vash.

BBS, I retire my shoes at 400 miles for regular runs but bring them back out from time to time for recovery runs. Not consistently though. In previous brands I only ever got 300 miles out of mine.

Hope you feel better soon 4bm.

Well, I'm back from the "run before the run." I ended up going a little more than planned, about 5, but it was the probably the easiest 5 I've ever done. I started from Rockefeller Center and then headed up 6th Avenue to Central Park -- of course.

Once I got there I couldn't resist the chance to run along the actual marathon course a bit; I joined the marathon route at Mile 25, then ran to Mile 24 before turning it around. On the way back I picked it up to about HM pace for 3 minutes, then it was back to a nice easy jog pace. Felt much better by the end, no more bus legs. Cool, crisp day out, low/mid 40s and windy; it's actually supposed to be a little calmer tomorrow.

Time to shower and grab a shuttle to the expo.

I'm so ready. Can't wait to get it on.

3:05? I wish. Nope the results are exactly 1 minute fast as the race started at 8am rather than the "typical" 8:01. Yeah, it's dumb. I actually ran 3:06:26 but if they want to give me 3:05:26, I'm not complaining. It says I was 12th in my division and 107 OA.

This is one of, if not the, best race performances of my short running career. Not only is my time a PR by 2:48 but I ran a 2:42 negative split (1:34:34 / 1:31:52) with the last 10k in 43:12, a 6:56mpm pace. Very happy because I finally ran a good marathon, finishing strong. My time is in line with my last HM. Also, I think I had a better taper and was well rested.

Temps were in the upper 20s to start with a breeze then the sun came out and it warmed into the mid 30s. The swarm of 3:10 runners and 1:35 HM'ers helped keep it warmer early. I started with sunglasses in the pre-dawn light. Almost wiped out a few times... The course was not great - some rollers on bad pavement with big cambers plus at 23 miles the course rejoined with the HM and I had to dodge hundreds of walkers... reminded me of OBX. Still I managed not to hit anyone.

What saved me was running with the 3:10 pace group for the first 9 miles. I ended up in front of them after a water stop and stayed just faster than 3:10 pace to the half then started to pick it up. My first sub 7 mile was mile 15. I kept pushing and running down other folks by setting targets and kept a decent pace. At the end I ran down a guy who'd passed me at mile 16 with the loudest shoes known to man. They sounded like wet flip flops. I told him so. I finished with a 0.2 mile sprint... oh yeah! Track has given me a kick.

Currently I'm not really that sore but I could feel a big ole blister on my middle toe - that popped in the 25th mile. The entire toe was a blood blister... nice blood stain on my shoe. I'm sure my quads will be angry tomorrow but I just survived 3.5 hrs of my wifes driving to get back home so I think I'm in good shape.

Hawk - best of luck tomorrow. We'll all be rooting for you to break 3:20.

BBS - the surfaces and brand of shoe make a big difference in the useable mileage.

4boysmom - get better please.

Dan - welcome home.

Jebba - great job on the relay

Jill - enjoy the rest

zrun - strike a pose... when you getting back in the running saddle? Hammie still buggin' you?
