Morning gang

We're out of coffee filters...

I want to try out this new trail today, but the weather sucks, windy, rainy and cold. I still might make an effort to go. Been looking forward to running something new.

BBS--BUMMER!!! But, that's why I drink instant. With enough creamer, it's not too bad. Plus, hubby just got me a Hot Shot that boils water in less than 10secs. Talk about instant instant!

I'll be heading out for a spin in just a bit. Our last ride was shorts and short sleeves. Today will require heavy fleece, gloves, hat, and gloves. Gotta love spring in Ohio.

Morning you two, guess it's a slow start around here today.

For coffee nothing beats the French press. No filters needed. Put your coffee in the bottom, add hot water, let it sit about 3 minutes, then push the little press thing down and pour yourself a nice strong cup. I grind my own beans, too, just because I like it as fresh as possible.

Waiting for a late breakfast to settle then I'm heading out for 12 or so. Last long run before Cherry Blossom next weekend.

BBS - hope you get to do that trail

4BM - brrr..seems like biking is the reverse of the running temperature rule. For running, dress like it's 20 degrees warmer, for biking 20 degrees lower. Sounds like you got it covered.

BBS- It is saturday and no one is up yet.

Went to my race this morning and my Son went to a b-day party. So my brother and I ran the 5k this morning. It is billed as the fastest 5k in Utah. It is pretty darn fast. They say it is about 1 minute faster than your normal 5k race. When I got to the start of the race it was windy and very cold, so a quick jog downhill about 1/2 mile and it was not as bad. My hands were frozen more or less at the start. The gun goes off and it was a quick first 1/4 or so. I look at my watch and it is sub 6:00 pace. I settle down into a good pace and hit mile 1 in 6:26. The first mile is the only part that has a slight uphill, but the start is on a good hill which makes it fast. Mile 2 has about half flat half downhill. I tried to stay pretty consistent here and I may have passed a few people. I know I went back and forth with a few people. 6:28 for mile 2 according to my watch. The person at mile 2 said 13:01. I thought if I do it just right I can get under 20:00. mile 3 is all downhill, so it was rather fast. I passed one woman that was in front of me the whole race and wondered if I could stay in front of her. Miles 3 was 6:18. The last .1 was on the High School track. I passed a few people here. In the last 100 meters I saw that if I ran fast enough I could break the 20:00 minute barrier. Last year the official result were 20:00. This year the official results had me as unknown for some reason and 20:01. I will go with the time on my watch though. I had timed it at 19:59 and the effort I gave today reflected that. I will have to check on all the placements and such when the results are put online. Overall is was a good test to see where I am at early in the racing season.

BBS - + 1000 on the french press. At work I use Starbucks Via.

kfuller - great job on the 5k! 19:59 has a much better ring to it that 20:01... I was once cvompletely missed from the results of a race. They screwed up my registration and gave me a new chip that didn't work...

4boysmom - enjoy the chilly ride

Hawk - take it easy on the 12

I'm a single parent for the weekend. May get out for a few with DD in the BOB later - may be not. Then DW is supposed to pop back from her girl's weekend so I can get in 20 tomorrow am. I have my doubts...

Hi everyone. Nice race, Kevin!

I too did a 5k this morning, Running to Beat the Blues, a race benefitting mental health. I managed to get first in my age group with 23:17. Not bad for me for the start of the season.

Well, THAT wasn't much fun! Took Sapphire out for a spin this afternoon. Not sure what the official temp was, but the clothes I hung on the line (dryer died) were frozen solid. And it was stupid windy. Since I was riding solo, I opted for the route that son1 hates. Okay, so I'm riding into a headwind on a route that's totally out in the open. NOT SMART! So I cut over and hit a route that's more protected. Not sure if that helped or not. Planned 40, but at 15 decided I had had enough and turned back. Maybe tomorrow's ride will be better?!

As far as dressing for riding, you pretty much dress for the current temp. So, today @mid 30's, I wore light hat under my helmet, medium weight UA long sleeve, medium weight fleece, wind breaker, heavy tights, booties, heavy gloves. I was "comfortably over warm".

Nice job to our racers Jebba and fuller. Asics good luck on the 20 tomorrow.

I have not mastered the art of dressing for winter cycling. Every time I do it I come back home feeling like a popsicle.

Local trail loop for me today, just a little short of 12 miles at 11.7. As for the weather conditions, I went with tights on the bottom, short-sleeve tech shirt and windbreaker on top for a windy, sunny low 40s day and it seemed about right. I followed Coach RA's instructions and kept the pace easy at 8:13/mile -- although the last 2 miles, with its huge hills, make holding even that pace a challenge. Stepped it up a little bit when I got back into the neighborhood for the last mile, finishing at about 7:40 pace. Not exactly a fast finish but a little bit of progression at the end.
