2:55 on the computrainer with a big group. I crushed them all!! :) Man I rode hard the entire time I'm so sore. Saturdays are for riding long and hard is what I say. Bit too cold for outdoors. Then ran 20 minutes started at 7:30 then cooled down. Have a good one!

Just returned from 18.17 miles. Ran the first 16.4 solo, the picked up the pooch for the rest. Going back to gummy things and pretzels for fuel - just seems to work better than anything. Snacks at miles 6 and 12, water throughout. Energy level was solid enough to deal with the crazy hound at the end (she's a little speedy).

Have a good day everyone!

A first for me!

I went trail riding on a brand new trail that's been opened up behind one of the elementary schools in the area.

They completed the "easy" trail first, with more challenging ones to follow.

I've never ever ridden on "mountain bike" trails before.

Rabbit is in her element on them, so I decided to give it a shot.

Couple of things I learned.......rather...."relearned"

1) Yes, for anyone who may doubt it......gravity is indeed............ALWAYS............on.

2) Steering is different on trails than on the road, leaning isn't so much of a great idea....leaning will cause gravity to reassert itself.

3) Timidity has no place on trails.

4) Personal sound effects do actually help you stay upright. ("I'm good, I'm good,.....I did it!! ..... rocks...trees trees trees..... Oh crap.... I'm ok I'm ok).

5) Sometimes, you're better at something than you think you will be.

6) No matter how many times you shout at them, the trees will not shout back.

7) Leaves are softer to fall in than rocks and roots

8) When you've knocked your seat sideways, it's time to head back to the parking lot.

9) Running the trail is almost as much fun as riding it.

For serious trail riders, this is definitely a baby trail. But, it jacked my HR up enough for the morning to be exciting. It'll be a nice place to have available for local and visiting riders, to be sure.

The easy trail is a 3 mile loop, and we did it once.

Then, we ran it.

Then, I went home and got food.

Pretty good start to the weekend, if I don't say so myself.

Ran from Hopkinton to Heartbreak Hill (just past Hammond St.). Continuing on to Old Colony Rd would have given me 21 miles. I ran something like 20.85 miles. In 4:04:43. I HATE it when I stop short on a run due to ignorance! Otherwise, it went pretty well. No running partner, but it was nice to see a lot of other folks out on the road. Liked the uphills more than the downhills. Lower shin on left leg continues to bug me during long runs (bothered me on the 19 miler last week Sunday, but was okay for 11 and 6 during the week); stopping and stretching my calf relieves it for a bit, but it's such a PITA. Turning at the Firestation was a boost. Passing the 19-mile sign was a huge boost. Ice bath. Hot shower. Sofa & blanket.

Cheryl,

I was also out on the course. I parked at Newton Wellesley Hospital, ran from there to the cemetery past BC, back to the Newton Fire Station, back to the cemetery, then back to the hospital. Total~ 19 miles and two passes over the hills. I think it is good to have a sense of the topography before the race. Those hills aren't too bad, but of course it is different when it takes you 17 miles to reach them.

I have done this before on weekend mornings that I have to be at the hospital, but I was amazed at the number of buses, runners, water stations... I saw. Lots of people out on this nasty cold day.

Good job for you. I hope this puts you in a good place for Patriots Day.

Not so fun solo ride this afternoon. Mid 30's with a biting wind out of the north. Had planned on 40, but at 15 decided I had had enough of the stupid wind and turned back for 30 even. BLECK!

Need your thoughts here--Driving back home, I came across a group of riders who were stopped and working on a bike. I stopped and asked if they needed any help. I figured still sporting my neon jacket and wicked helmet head, it was obvious I was a rider. They said they were good. Because of today's conditions, there is no way I would have left a rider stranded, especially since I could easily transport a rider and bike. Then I got thinking about it-- 1) would you give a ride to a rider you didn't know? 2) guys, would you want your wife to give a ride to an unknown rider? 3) would you accept a ride from someone (another rider) you didn't know?

Scott - woohoo!!

Stitch - Great job on the trail. It is funner, isn't it?

cak/zdoc - you guys are getting me excited! Must have been cold/windy..... brrr. Order some 50F weather will you? I will take anywhere mid 40's to mid 60's.

4bm - I probably would offer a ride to a rider I don't know. But I wouldn't accept a ride from somebody who is passing by, if it is a woman and looks like she just rode (bike in the car, stinky, etc) I may take the offer.

Slow start day, due to kids dropoff/pickup duties. Got 6miles run and 3000m swim in. Finally legs started coming back a bit, recovering from the half last Sunday.

DH raced 32mile xc (some dirt/road) bike race in 20F's. Crazy man, but very proud of him, encouraging himself to get out there and stay positive about things during this tough time (he just lost his job).

Nice run, Zdoc! Would have been great to see you out there! Were you one of the folks who commented that they liked my hat (I wore the sushi one)?

There were a lot of folks out there today! Totally appreciated the port-o-potties they had set up in Hopkinton.

I was so pumped to make the turn at The Fire Station that those hills went very well. I've been doing out-and-backs on them (though not multiples like you've done) for a few years. They are very familiar to me...though I *always* manage to miss the statue of Johnny Kelley.

I was glad to get out on the course today to experience the downhill start and the drudgery of running through Framingham. Compared to Derry and Stu's...well, Derry and Stu's really prepare you well to run Boston. They're in the process of repaving Rte 135 near Wellesley College, so that should be nice. Hope I can get this thing that's going on with my lower shin figured out and resolved so I can really enjoy Patriot's Day!

Late to post...

National Marathon, number 61 for me, in 3:03. Couple of potty breaks plus seized left calf. Story to come shortly on my blog. Logged 28 miles in total with being stuck in traffic as race was about to start, so a nice warm up... Sort of. Ironmate went 2:05 in the half and ran every step of the way together. My goal is to get the whole family running .
