Morning, everyone.

Dave -- Good luck out there. Beat the heat!

BBS -- You, too.

Me -- 5/6 of what Dave's doing. 120% of BBS. Going to try to throw in some tempo. Not sure if RA and Zrun are racing today -- but if so, good luck, boys!

Seeing Steve Martin play his banjo tonight at a wonderful outdoor venue. DW has opted for Katy Perry at the local arena with her friend. Seriously.

Dave - say cool and hydrated

BBS - 10 miles in the distance de jour. Hope it goes/went well.

Chances - 5/6ths. LOL. I thought your were a big Katy Perry fan? What gives?

So... hilly 10 mile trail race this morning called the "xtreme 10". It was made more Xtreme by a nasty thunderstorm that blew through after midnight. Lots of flooding on the north side, luckily the race is on the south west side. Ironically, the race was cancelled last year due to a similar storm hitting the area... Anyway, met up with zrun before and afterwards. Nice to finally met up.

Overall, I did better that expected scoring a course PR with an unofficial 1:08:33. My goal had been sub 1:10. I was in wave 2, with a 4 minute offset from the gun but got a top 100 finisher medal. It was almost 100% humidity but the temp was in the 70s and it was overcast. Basically a sweat-fest. I managed to run down a bunch to wave 1'ers who foolishly went out too fast (my buddy included) and faded badly. The only water hazard,. other than the watery field at the start and finish, was in the 2nd mile where a short low bridge was under a foot of fast moving water. I high stepped across while others stopped and wondered what to do. My shoes dryed quickly.

Splits are pretty even except for miles 3 and 4, which include the "big bertha" hill.

Miles 1 - 5: 6:46, 6:45, 7:16, 7:07, 6:48

Miles 6-10: 13:27, 6:52, 6:49. 6:43

I didn't see the 6 mile marker hence the 2 mile split. I picked up the effort a bit before mile 5 , after my legs had recovered from the early hill. I dropped the folks I was with and concentrated on running down runners in front of me. Funny, I thought I was flying in the 2nd half but my pace was varying between 6:00 and 8:00 due to the rolling course. Tough course, tough condition but I'm very happy with my performance.

ETA: official race results

Time: 1:08:17

OA: 54 / 749

AG: 13 / 79 (M40-45)

I somehow I gained 16 seconds, not that I'm complaining. However, I still only I got 13th in my AG... my buddy was 6 mins slower than me and got 11th... that means he got more points for being younger AND running slower. On the plus side, I beat a whole bunch of folks from my running club :)

ETA 2: nice job on the 5k kfuller!

Nice job, RA. Today my running club had it's annual picnic and 5k. It was hot, humid, and ridiculously hilly. I got first in my age group with a sloooooow 27:30. I also managed to win first in my age group for the year long grand prix series. (I will not confess that I was the only person in my age group.) The prize included a very nice workout bag with the club logo and "Grand Prix 2010-2011" on it, a luggage tag, and yellow singlet with the logo and Grand Prix on it.

Couple of brutal rides. Yesterday I headed out as soon as it was light enough, hoping ot beat the heat. Did okay until m65. Planned stop for ice cold soda, refill water bottles, and bathroom. It was only 10am but already 95*. Oy... Only 20m left and was doing okay. At 10m to go, I was dying. And with 5m to go I didn't think I could finish it out. Finished in 5:08. NOT my best time, but I got it done. Great visit with Grandma. We were watching tv after dinner. At 9pm she woke me and suggested we head to bed.

It rained overnight so roads were wet this morning. Out the kitchen window I saw the flag at the hospital. Uh oh... already a stiff wind. And it was... headwind. Super slow day today. Unplanned stop at m30. POJ and Gu (x2 caffeine) just hoping to get something going. Planned stop at m55 for soda and a Little Debbie snack cake. Sometimes it's the little things that get you through. Ended up talking with a guy so that stop was longer than planned. Whatever. Enjoyable conversation. Finally got something going and the last 30 weren't that bad. Uh, let's just say I finished it out.

All in all, a very good weekend. I knew with the weather conditions it wasn't going to be a PR. Sometimes in life ya just gotta have fun.

Dave - it must have been pretty brutal there

4boys - good job with the long rides,

Jebba - way to go on the 5k

Chances - Have a good run, however far it is :)

I was planning on doing the Xtreme 10 as some kind of training run, no real plan but hoping to start easy and finish fast. Didn't happen, though I did manage a small negative split. I started at the back of the second wave, which led to a couple of walking logjams - first entering the trail from the xcountry start, and then the unplanned stream crossing in the 2nd mile that RA mentioned. Even trying to keep it easy, the hills in miles 3 and 4 pretty much did in my desire to pick it up the second half. Garmin mile splits wound up 8:23, 8:27, 8:26, 8:30, 8:45, 8:20, 8:18, 8:34, 8:04 (finally picking it up a little) with 10 sec left at the end for 1:24:19. Stuck around and got a massage afterwards. All in all a fun time, and glad to finally run this course. Crazy lightning storms last night and it looks like more rain tomorrow morning, will be interesting to see how the planned 14-16 goes.

Hey, I was going to run in with you then I remembered that the last half mile on the (waterlogged) grass sucks real bad so bagged that idea :) Anyway, from your splits, you did a much better job on the early hills than me plus you did finish strong.

Good evening everyone. I am in Wyoming at my parents house. Today I ran a 5k race. It went well. It was a good race today. 20:35 and it was a good race. The fastest I have ran in quite some time that was not on a downhill course. Even with the small field I got 3rd in my AG. Maybe after my b-day in August I will have an easier time with a new AG.

Nice job on all of the running and such today. Hopefully the heat will subside for those of you suffering from it.
