Dan--sorry, but I'm going with the thread that was started first!

BBS--what's wrong with running in the rain?! But, you know you are a runner when you get excited about getting new shoes muddy.

Long run for me this morning. Legs trashed from long/hard rides this week. VBS certainly didn't help matters! Fun, but glad it's over! Today's run took me on a favorite route--into and out of the river valley. I knew I wasn't going to turn in very good numbers, but dog gone it if it didn't just feel right to be out there this morning! 10m in 1:35. LOVE the double digits!!!

17 miles. Hips got very tight and very sore around 13 miles. Needless to say I slowed down a lot. Now I'm left wondering what the heck doing...75F and sunny.

Today my wife dropped my brother and I up what is called millcreek canyon. We started where the 8k race I did started it is just a bit over 6000 ft in elevation at the start. Overall by the time we were totally spent we had done 7.36 miles in 1:00:45(8:15) and had an elevation drop of 1900 ft. Now I feel like a nice cold bath on the legs would be good. It is starting to get hot out and that did not help the run much. Through the canyon it was very nice and one out of it the sun started to bake us. For those who like trail running, this would be a great place to go. Nice job on all the running today.

Running in the trails when it is raining is awesome!! Got in 9 miles. New shoes are the bomb. I averaged 8:47 (pretty sure it was a lil faster than that due to all the trees messin up the Garmin), but the last mile was in the open and I somehow eeked out a 7:57.

Some very nice runs today. It was very humid this morning, but not too hot (about 79*). I eked out 10 miles with a couple of walk breaks in the last two miles. Just about a 10m pace average. The blister is still hurtung, but I put a fancy bandage on it, and I don't think I made it worse.

Hey all,

Good to see people getting out there. I'm lagging behind again after sleeping in yet another Saturday. Yeah, I know, lazy. But that will be ending soon. The road to New York City beckons in just 2 weeks, so I'm enjoying the last bit of "vacation" from marathon training.

Odd 5k race last night. I had worked long hours at the office the past two days, not slept well and it was 90 + humid even at 7pm. On top of it all I was late getting there and had no time to warmup other than a quick jog over to registration to grab my bib, chip & t-shirt. By this time I was already feeling rather unmotivated about the whole thing. I took the stuff back to my car, quickly pinned the number on and put the d-tag on the shoe, figuring I had just enough time to back to the start. Um, not exactly. As I'm running back I hear the start horn go off. Great. Oh well. I touched the start pad and took off anyway, passed a few hundred people. Mentally I just wasn't into it, though, and was pretty much cruising along at a tempo pace. On the way back from the turnaround, I was all alone, nobody close behind and the next person way too far ahead to catch. So I just continued at my pace, crossed the line barely even tired. 22::44 gun time, 20:49 chip time -- PW for the year and slowest 5k in probably 3 years.

After such a lackluster performance you can imagine my surprise to find out I came in 7th overall and won my age group. The funny thing is I didn't even stick around for awards - one of our soccer teammates was having a party at her house and I headed to that for a little while. I only found out about the results after checking online later.

Not sure what I'm doing today. I left it open to either a long run or ride. Watching Tour de France replay right now so maybe that will inspire me in that direction.

Hawk - funny how that goes. Sounds like it was a perfect storm. I can relate though. The two 5ks I've run this year have been my slowest in over 2 years and yet I got hardware. Personally, I'm more concerned about my time with any PW associated hardware being a hollow victory. I'm still pissed about the 19:03 on July 4th. However, it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
