Good morning everyone. Looks like I get to start for the day. Will be going out for 6 miles sometime today. My son is sick and congested and my wife was up for a couple of hours with him. So if they can get some sleep I will go when they wake up in a few hours. Have a great morning everyone.

Good Morning everyone! I am actually able to get to the computer before everyone is in bed for the night! I ran an wasy 5 miles last night and plan to do 4 or so miles today. I am into my taper for Surf City Marathon in one week. Woohoo! I have to work outside all day today and it is going to be cold!

Kevin- hope you get out for your run!

Have a nice day everyone!

Kevin--I remember those days... Ain't noooooooo way I'm going back!!!

Rainier--enjoy the taper!

Fishbowl for me this morning. Steady 45mins. Not your typical swim, though. Two lanes were aerobics. Loud music, instructor shouting over it... One lane of a water walker, then there were two kid swim lessons in that lane. Ended up splitting a lane. Good thing this was just a lazy swim!

Morning all:

Probably run 3-5 easy/recovery miles today, which will put me around 35 miles for the week. That's little down from where I want to be but not bad considering the ole hip soreness thing. There's more foam rollering in my future.
I was pleased with my tempo run last night - in Z4 all the way. If anything, my HR was a little low in the zone. Time to up my T-pace a little so will try 6:30mpm (McMillan range is 6:23 to 6:40) next week and see how that pans out.

Once my HM is out of the way, I'll start adding 400s back into my training to have a faint hope of not being completely smoked by Tonya and Nirvana at the Shamrock Shuffle 8k on March 30th. If all goes well I should crush my PR from 2005.

Good luck to those racing this weekend - run strong!

4boysmom: water walker? Never seen that but then again I'm only at the pool for DWs swim meets. So, what do they do at the deep end?
Kevin: have a good run - keeping those team points a rollin'
Rainerun: taper away

4boysmom-- I don't like it much either. How do you swim with the water aerobics going on? Tried it before and it is rather difficult with all the waves they put out across the water.

RunAsics - Guess I missed it. When/where is your HM? And, if you will allow me: 6:30 tempo pace? *sheesh*

4boys - I think all the distractions would have broken up the monotony for me. Hope it was same for you.

Can't believe I'm so low in the msg count today. Usually 10K messages in here by this time. I'm gonna do 3 or 4 or 5 today in a bit. Older kid is getting tested for the gifted program, so I'm watching the younger kid.

Looks like another chilly dreary drizzly day here in SC. I'll put in a "longer" run this afternoon, but I know this weather will weaken my thoughts of gong much more than 5 miles today. I am ready for spring!

No time to read all the posts. I put in 10 on the bike this mornign for a warm-up. Then I was off to a 5K race. Short warm-up there and then off. 19:37 was my official time. Great run. I have already posted my report.

Off to spend the rest of the day running with the family.

www.kickrunners.com/forum//showthread.php?t=20387

Congratulations Dave!!! Way to make it out, even though you hadn't planned on it.

RunAsics- I don't know if you really have much to worry about...I'm starting to doubt my abilities, getting nervous.

Billy - Way to go on the reproduction! I remember being in gifted and talented when I was younger.

Mom - Of course, nice effort, per usual.

Rainierun - Tapering. The most difficult thing for me to do. Have a good one.

Kfuller - I see you made it out there...headed over to the PRT soon...

As for me - Seriously nervous. Tomorrow is my first race in 2 months, and I'm having serious anxiety about it right now. I just want to do well, but I don't want to set myself up for failure. I don't want to do worse than the 5 miler I ran on Thanksgiving (31:01), but I shouldn't put so much pressure on myself. Arggh. Sorry, just rambling.

Have a great day everyone--

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR RACERS!!!

Good luck to all racers this weekend. For me, I hit the babysitting room up at the Y for 30 minutes on the elliptical and 3 miles on their mill in 26:54. Tomorrow is 8-10, and a friend in town asked if I wanted to run it with her. So, that could mix it up a bit. I've never run with her before and she's fast. So we'll see.

Quick post for now, back later I hope.

16.5 miles this morning in 30F temps. Legs were tired and black ice slowed me down big time in a few spots but I still managed a 7:51/mile pace.

Looking forward to hearing from our Derry racers.

I decided to "brave the elements" today and run a 5 miler as easy/recovery pace. My usual route to the bike path was OK but the path itself had 4-6 inches of powder snow. Luckily, there were a few xc-skiers out laying some tracks, which helped with the footing. Still, it was fun until I got closer to home and the wind picked up...

Billy: My HM is in Hilton Head, SC on Feb 9th.. I paced it well last year, running a negative split but still think I should have been closer to my goal of 1hr30min.

Tonya: We don't doubt you... you're going to have a great racing season. As for the 8k... just think of those 1 mile intervals you run! Also, if you want to see anxious, meet me before a race.

Kevin - I'll have to check out your PoTD. I was thinking about doing that too.

Tonya--I'm right there with you... Except, my last two long races have totally sucked. So, tomorrow is all about rebuilding confidence.

As for the pool... two lanes are used for the aerobics class. That leaves two lanes. Actually, it was kinda good to have people churning up the water. Usually, I'm the only one swimming. NOT good training for open water!!! Oh, and it's all 4ft, hence the water walker.

Back from a 25K tune-up race that served as a change of scenery long run with water stops. I included 4 miles of marathon pace which reminded me that I have done nothing but easy easy for the past 7 weeks. Woah, I have some rebuilding to do! But, I enjoyed the run a lot and felt great! I ran this last year and several times thought about how much happier I am vs. last year which was energizing. The course had some good hills throughout. I'm sure they're nothing compared to Boston, but at least something other than flat coastal plain.

Tonya, hope you're able to relax. I bet you're in great shape for the 8K.

4boysmom -- that is a busy busy pool.

Great race, Dave!

kfuller, glad you could get out.

CMJHawk, nice going on the ice. Do you run roads, paved paths, or trails up in Fairfax? I used to live near there and miss all the different routes.

Good runs to all and good luck to all the racers.

Hey ya'll,

Nice runnin' and workouts so far! Great racing, Dave!

I got out for 9 miles a little after noon today. Its about 37*, a little windy (5-10mph), and overcast. The run went alright, not much ITBS pain which was nice. I just couldn't really get moving today though, running just over a 10mpm pace. Felt like I had nothing left in the tank by the finish. Time for me to get back to making a dent in the ridiculous amount of homework I need to do this weekend, then off to take care of my boyfriend who is still sick but getting a lot better.

Have a nice day ya'll!

Thanks everyone for the warm wishes...I just wish it worked.

So I opted for the gym today--did a little ellipticizing. Decided it might be better if I did some cross training on the day before the race. I haven't done the elliptical machine in a good 2 weeks, so I figured I'd check out how the ol' heart rate kept up.

Man, I guess I don't need to worry about my heart rate...it was easy as cake.

Elliptical - 12.92 miles, 1:06:00

By the way, one of my favorite songs ever, I think, came on while I was finishing up the last 2 minutes. The song is some newer music, but it's a great tune. Called "Scythian Empire" by Andrew Bird. If you haven't heard it you really need to check it out. It makes for an excellent running song as well...

After that workout I'm feeling a little better about my performance tomorrow. I'm still worried, though, because I know at least one Team Nebraska member is going to be at there. I read it on my secret source, you know, the one I told you all I had found--their running logs.

Tonya, relax already.

Ha! That's funny! But thanks. Initial indications from kid and mom is that testing went well.

You know you are improving when you aren't satisfied with a negative split! Still, 1:30 should be very much within your range, shouldn't it? How's the course?

For my next trick, I'm stealing Phill's report, because mine is pretty similar. I'll put Phill's in orange so you can see the edits more easily.

4 miles @ 10:48 pace.

Good run, not very steady pace...Off to do laundry.
