Maybe some weights but need to stay off my ankle. I'm not sure I'll ever be rid of this ankle tendon problem.

Hawk - best of luck for the 20k.. errr.., you've likely finished by now so hope it went well.

Dan - let's hope you get back in the swing of it next week.

BBS - have fun with the hot (Jill temperature scale) 10.

Chances - happy birthday to your DW. Do you have an oversized white GO t-shirt or a Spandau Ballet tarten outfit?

chances--happy birthday to your DW!

BBS--hope the 10 went well.

Dan--but look at how many steps forward you've made.

Asics--any thought to what's causing the ankle thing?

First race of the season is in the books. Frigid 5K. It's held at a park that creates its own winds. Today, winds were 15mph, so roughly double that. It's run on a crushed limestone trail. That was plowed, however, still snow covered and footing was iffy at best. There were also a few sections of XC through the snow. And who could forget the Woods of Death. There's no real trail, you just bushwack with everyone else. Since my long run on the dreadmill on Wednesday my calves have been cramping. Sections of the race with poor footing--or should I say poorer footing as there was no good footing--really did me in. But, alas, it was a fun little race. I think I got 2nd in my AG, but full results haven't been posted. Next race is in two weeks.

Post race, I did a quick change at the van. As you know, you can turn into a sweaty mess at 30* and wicked winds! As I was heading out on Sapphire, the guy who won the race told me I was a nut to ride in conditions like that! Uh, this is the guy that raced in shorts, singlet and arm warmers. Who is calling whom a nut?! It was the best of winter riding--cold and windy. Oh, and drifted over roads. Riding through snow with slicks is not fun! Time sucked, but it was good to get out there!

I'm back from my race too, and I am pleased with the result.

1:25:46 for 20k, which puts me right around 90 minute HM pace. That's not a bad place to be in early season...not quite at PR form, but very close. Of course, I should mention, today's time is a PR for me at 20k. All told it's very good sign for the season ahead. The race was on the Capital Crescent trail in Georgetown. Despite the low 30s and wind whipping off the Potomac I felt comfortable in shorts, shortsleeve shirt over a capilene mock and UA skull cap. Like 4bm I was still quite surprised to peel the mock off in car and see it all wet with sweat. There was quite a bit of ice on the course, which certainly made things interesting, and one stop to re-tie a shoe at around 13k. So yeah, I could have even done a little better. But hey, no complaints about a 9th place overall finish.

So Dan & RA, no trash talk about tomorrow's game? Of course, I have no dog in the fight, other than hoping the Falcons get a revenge win for me over the Pack.

Dan - hope the issue clears up

RA - sorry about the ankle thing. Do you wear a wrap or maybe tape it?

BBS - hope the run was good. I would have gone long pants or tights today if I wasn't racing. But glad I went with shorts.

Chances - just remember it's her party and well you know, girls just wanna have fun. (sorry, I was reaching an 80s song pun there). Glad you like yesterday's setlist. My "spin/ride" mix has about 200 songs on it.

4BM - nice job on the 5k but I have to agree with the guy about riding in these conditions. The problem is cycling is all lower body and your torso just gets smacked with wind.

Nice job on the race and PR Hawk.

Just got back from an 18 miler in the park. Not sure what the pace was other than slow because much of the trail was pretty fresh- unpacked snow so that kept the going slow. Also, the fact that i needed to add 2 miles onto the course, and felt that running up and down two hills to accomplish that didn't help matters. Regardless, I felt pretty strong throughout considering it was my longest run probably since October, so hopefully I feel decent Sunday and be able to get a solid recovery run in.

Nice job to everyone else too, I'm just too lazy to comment on all.
