Short run before going to work today. Our store now sells the new Merrell Trail Gloves. They're like the VFF, but more like a shoe. If you've wanted to try the VFF, but didn't like the goofy looking toes, give these a try. We also got the newly released New Balance 890. Should be a great weekend selling shoes!

6 miles easy after breakfast. Started my run slipping and sliding on icy roads and finished way overdressed. I swear the temperature increased about 15 degrees in the hour I was out there.

17.2 miles today at my long run pace (though not exactly entirely all at my long run HR target). Was given the okay for 14, but also to go for 17 if I was feeling okay. I was feeling okay...relatively speaking. This is the longest distance I have ever "run" (I do 9:1 run:brisk walk intervals for pretty much everything over 8-10 miles, I have a cam impingement on the left hip, if not also on the right...I don't remember exactly). Stretching, snow sit and ice bath after. Am now enjoying recovery compression tights and the sofa.

Hobey...I remember reading that your kinesio tape was a bit itchy for you. Mine isn't itchy yet. I can tell it's there because it's not 100% breathable, but it hasn't been too bad. After everything I've done today (and a 60 min trainer ride fib a shower yesterday), it's still stuck to my knee. It's the stuff from Nitto Denko with the Japanese writing on the paper.

4 mile after-work run on a very pretty, chilly day. Nice day for running and my easy-feeling pace was crazy fast, but unfortunately I spent the second half with that annoying light-headed-floaty-disconnected feeling. I hate that.

Short easy swim workout coming up before dinner, just technique stuff to keep the arms moving.

8 miles on the trails this morning. We started out just barely pre-dawn, and watched the sun come up through the mist rising around us in the woods.

Very cool.......with just a tad of spooky, too.

Martha's Vineyard 20-Miler for me yesterday.

I'm really beginning to enjoy this race. I did it last year with a bunch of friends, and I got talked into it again this year, and wow, what a fun time. I have a friend who has a house on the island, so after the race we all go back there for drink, food, and stories, always creating some goofy moments.

Yesterday was brutal with a steady wind at, and this is absolutely no exaggeration, 26-28 mph with gusts to 50. Anybody in the New England area knows what yesterday was, and with MV an island in the middle of the ocean, it was very windy and very difficult running at times. The first 10 miles was predominantly a tail wind, and the last 10 was head, but that was when the course turned inland and got slightly hilly too, so very tough going.

I went out hard, wondered at mile 7 what the hell I was doing, held on tight from 13 to the end, and pretty much held pace the entire way, hitting the finish line with nothing left.

20 miles

2:15:04 (6:46 pace)

Did this race 2:30 faster last year with an average pace of 6:39. But I am very happy with this time and my ability to hold on. Point is that I know I am slower than I was last year; this just backs that up. But no worries because I gave it my all and ran a strong race. Sort of. I mean, I just went out fast and ignored the ideas in my head that I was going too fast and held on for as long as I could.

I also did marathon distance only because I wanted to keep my streak alive of a marathon a month. February would be month #6. I have mixed feelings about counting it -- and I'm still considering backing off -- as a marathon (but I will count it as keeping the streak alive) because this was far more untraditional than I typically do in a non-marathon event run off. Usually I will tag on the distance during the race so that the clock at the end is my time. But I wanted to race and maybe even place to see what my time would be as compared with last year. So I ran 5 miles before the race, and I would have run 6.2 if I had more time, and then tagged on the rest after the race. Kind of reaching. Friends told me to count it. Not sure. It would be marathon number 60. Either way I decide, I will at least consider this my marathon for February.

Did 30min yoga and stretching before hitting the work thing hard so I could get my plane and get home. Managed to actualy do it. I'm kind of impressed and surprised.

Wanted BADLY to go do a 8-10mile run along the beach of Santa Monica - maybe ring Cashmason up, or Momo, or JenOtter, or many of the others in the area - but I had zero time this trip. 39 hours door to door - and that included 14 hours of travel and 7 of sleep. But it looks like I will be back to LA 2-3x this year, so another day....
